I think it’s still the second best card in its slot as a 6 CMC colorless midrange threat.
I no longer have incentive to run a second 6 CMC colorless midrange threat. Hangarback Walker and Walking Ballista fill midrangey colorless roles with more flexibility and random synergies, and colorless top-end threats have gotten deeper between Ugin, the second round of Eldrazi and unsung cube All-Star Ancient Stone Idol
I think Mizzium Tank is exactly what I want in a cube card - it bridges multiple archetypes, as an aggro threat that dodges Sorcery removal, as an undercosted fatty for spellslinger and for its random synergy with Red artifacts-matter effects. Before testing, it looks like the baseline power is there, and it seems like a healthier use of a slot from a cube design standpoint than a random Rampaging Ferocidon or Ahn-Crop Crasher. It’s on my short list for testing.
Man, please don’t complain when a set looks like an above-average product.
I agree that a lot of the cards seem good, but it’s hard to complain that it’s too good or overpowered for having a worse Bitterblossom, when Bitterblossom itself isn’t exactly tearing up Modern.
Dovin’s Veto looks like the biggest new eternal staple so far, followed by 4-5 planeswalkers that look pretty even with cards that have come before.
Doomed Traveler is better at getting damage in, and has tribal elements, and is in a color that has a lot of effects to buff its weenies, and still is at best borderline. I’m not seeing it.
I just can’t see past the card disadvantage or mana inefficiency. You’re always going to be down at least 1 card and always going to be down at least 2 mana, probably more.
I’m having fun just thinking up ways to draw 2, and might test him for that alone, but dude this really isn’t where I want to be. There are like 30 creatures that would be better fits for that slot.
But in my cube, the ability is semi-profitable on Vapor Snag, Firestorm, Fire Covenant, Fire // Ice and Boros Charm. Or maybe to Bolt itself with a Young Pyromancer or Monastery Mentor out.
I’m willing to dumpster-dive some jank if there’s a payoff, but nah.
I still can’t tell if it’s ever done anything, or if its loyalty and exile are just scary.
Absolutely warps games, but it rarely puts creatures into play, or ults, or decks anybody.

Their print decisions convince me that they’ve never seen a “premium” card that’s been unwrapped for longer than a couple hours.

I’m skeptical that something this fair and this inefficient can be a real card in a format with Splinter Twin, Sneak Attack, Hellrider or Reanimate
