sicsmoo posted a message on [Primer] Gx TronThe last 1-2 slots will depend on your meta, but I can't imagine wanting less than 2 Spatial Contortions if you have Humans and any other aggro/creature combo decks. Wail is good to round out the SB, and I'm a big fan of Emrakul as well.Posted in: Big Mana
I'm working on the guide now, should have it finished by tonight, or tomorrow if not. -

Spooly posted a message on Grixis Death's ShadowPosted in: MidrangeQuote from Tasighoul »BloodyRabbit_01, why do you consider Surgical Extraction a must-have? My local metagame is dominated by Gx Tron and RG Titanshift. My attempts to beat them with Fulminator Mages and Surgical Extractions failed miserably for the most part. UWx Control seems to be nearly inexistent in my area. If it was popular, I would play a different deck.Quote from BloodyRabbit_01 »I think a third piece of grave hate is necessary. Be it Surgical or another spell. I simply like having Extraction-effects when running a full set of Snapcaster Mage in the deck. According to my testing, Fulminator Mage is a bad card for our sideboard, and if I wanted some sort of mana-denial I would have played Spreading Seas, which is a) faster b) pseudo card-advantage. Against Tron & Valakut you improve your percentages playing effective counters while beating them down, going on the full Tempo route, and not playing the mana-denial game. Disdainful Stroke, Deprive, Mana Leak & Ceremonious Rejection are all good complements for our strategy.
I like Surgical, instead, expecially against Dredge (where is way better compared to Spellbomb, if you can catch one of their threats, and with Snappy in hand is even better), UR Storm (where it's a free spell and can catch the opponent off guard after resolving a Gifts) and Ad Nauseam (where extracting Pact or directly AN means winning the game). Also, is very good against Infect.
+1 to this plan vs the big mana decks. I've been on MD 3 Denial, 3 Mana Leak (or 2 + 1 Deprive) with 1 Denial + 2 Stroke in the SB for some time, and my Tron, Eldrazi Tron, and RG Valakut matchups are favorable. Fulminator Mage is slow, and they have much more mana than they have threats, so they're more likely to draw out of it. Fully time walking them with a counterspell is soooo much better.
I haven't liked Surgical much vs. storm because it only takes one card on of the yard - it doesn't disrupt future Past in Flames that much. My last slot vs. Storm is usually a Kozilek's Return to fight Empty.
Edit:
Quote from Abzanleap »What is the game plan for elves? I have a player at my LGS that jams it all the time and he is kind of annoying, so I would like to have a plan.
Sweepers, Liliana, the Last Hope, Collective Brutality, lots of spot removal, and a light touch with countermagic. Also Temur Battle Rage if you have it. I side out all of the Street Wraiths in this matchup because it will go long, and they will do a lot of damage to you via random 1/1s and often Shaman of the Pack. Thoughtseize is still good though and you should leave in all 4. Liliana, the Last Hope is the real all star here. Generally play conservatively to protect your life total and prevent them from going too crazy - play to counter/discard the CoCos, and prioritize removing the 3 mana lords and Heritage Druid. Kozilek's Return is great as the sweeper here because with a Shaman of the Pack trigger on the stack, you can sweep their board and take no damage from the Shaman. It also fights through Burrenton Forge-Tender. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
