There are a few deathtouch dudes in your green section that could get a cut.
Yeah i am looking at cutting thornweald archer for rofellos because it stays with the elf tribal sub theme I have. the other cut i would be looking at is strangleroot geist for lotus cobra if i add them both... but i kind of want to keep strangleroot for green aggro. I feel like my fixing is pretty good so i am less inclined for lotus cobra.
When i first made my cube i included both thornweald archer and kessig recluse because I wanted my green section to have some interaction with flying. i think kessig recluse is going to become wickerbough elder pretty shortly, though it does do a nice job playing defence and shoring up attacks from spirit, drake, and faerie tokens.
how important is it to have green creatures with reach or deathtouch? most decks are 2 colours and can play non green removal so i dont really feel it necesary anymore.
It also has value out of the 'yard, and gives you timing control (and can't be countered coming back). It's better on defense, and doesn't cost WW. I think this is significantly better than Loyal Cathar. Interactions with looting and discard effects seems promising with this mechanic too. Seems like the kind of card that would be right at home in an tempo shell with Looter il-Kor and tiny Jace and stuff. Or with Liliana and Pack Rat and friends in an Orzhov shell. I think the ability is just interesting enough to make it worth experimenting with.
Not sure what you mean by "timing control" but you can only Embalm anytime you can cast a sorcery in case you're referring to instant speed embalming.
I think he means you get to choose when he comes back onto the field. It isn't like undying or persist where it comes back right away. also not a trigger on death like "when he dies you may pay 2 and embalm."
i currently run conscripts without the combo and think im still leaning towards conscripts. its just such a fun card taking a planeswalker or their own fatty and beating them with it.
this card seems redundant. But if I didn't already have cards with similar effects i think this guy would be included for sure.
I actually think this guy is on the edge for me depending what else we get.
Looking at my cube black has the most synergy already but blue also has some nice stuff. I really want to play compulsive research with this guy out! works great in blue black reanimator. smuggler's copter also seems amazing. This is just the list of stuff that i run that has synergies and I know there are lots of other things that people run enclave cryptologist etc. that would also be great. Even a late game mox diamond becomes relevant.
voice has always been so good in our cube. sucks so bad when you are holding up a removal spell and they cast it. can almost play like a tarmogoyf when you cast it for 2 late game and the token it makes when it dies is big.
I would never cut voice from my section.
if you are worried about all creatures dont forget dromoka's command is a nice efficient spell with good flexibility.
i love the alligator on the full art game day languish!
i feel similarly where getting to tack on a 3 drop for free with the expertise is a nice change from languish and plays differently than a pure wrath. also if you prioritize picking creatures with 4 or greater toughness, then expertise can be a really nice lop-sided effect. languish on the other hand significantly cuts down on the number of creature options you have to potentially break the symmetry but is more effective in wiping everything.

seems great with fetches/crucible/loam... what other interactions are there with this card?

scrapheap scrounger is the only one that comes to mind at the moment but i am curious if other things have been added over the years.
i think my favourite is "enchant dead creature" on dance of the dead

Interesting trade offs.
