I've heard like 3 people say how much of a blowout it is to have this removed in response to the ability, but I think the value is in holding the ability up. If I have 7 mana, I'm going to swat them in the air and continue my gameplan. The ability to blank removal by transforming in response is only upside
Also @Antipox, he can't dome for 10, only hits creatures and planeswalkers

Hate to sound like an old grumpy Magic player... but this x1000.
Atrocious names. Deeply boring art. Barely playable mechanical effects. Yuck. -

TheGroglord posted a message on [CUBE][SOI] Thing in the IceI'm still enjoying Thing in the Ice. I haven't found it flips as often as I would hope but that is usually because an opponent is having to use their removal on my 2-drop instead of something else, even when I'm across the table from one I usually want it dead in case they fire off a spell on my endstep and flip it on theirs. When it does flip it is usually pretty good value even if your opponent sees it coming but when you catch someone off guard with an unexpected flip and replay your own value creatures it can get really nuts.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
I think a key to playing it right is not to make bad plays just to flip it unless you really need to clear the board or can swing for lethal. I have been caught out a few times going all-in to flip it and having it removed with triggers on the stack, I was certain they had no removal and paid dearly for it.
That 4 toughness is amazing on a 2-drop and always makes we want another good utility 0/4 in blue. You opponents usually have to get to 4 drops before they have a creature that will kill it in combat so it usually blanks a few attackers.
A fun interesting card that I don't see myself cutting any time soon. -

Mongrel >> Visionary ≥ Mayor = Branchwalker; the last 3 are all pretty comparable filler cards.
Druid > Mystic, unless you have a deep Morph theme and/or Mystic is in a Temur slot. -

Powerful card that unfortunately requires a ramp deck that can make BBB to be good enough for a powered cube. Really wish the kicker was 6 instead of 5B. Makes it a more reasonable cast for tolarian academy/gae's cradle or channel.
Unfortunately anything but a ramp deck will basically never be able to make 10 mana... a 4/5 menace for 4 is only a desperation playable in non ramp decks.
Makes it a bit too narrow for my tastes.. If your cube group loves RB wildfire, or your cube actively supports it, I'd give this guy a test around 540 mark.
Yeah this is my thought, the ceiling is obviously good if you can reach it but 10 mana can still be a lot even for ramp decks, and I can't imagine I'm consistently happy casting this for 2BB in cube. -

K0olmini posted a message on Planeswalkers and the CubeI am 100% for limiting the number of planeswalkers in cubes. I do not agree with the argument of "Would you limit other card types in your cube". If they were not as swingy or start a 'sub-game' then I would think they are fine. The new card type in combination with swingy and sub-game of 'kill the planeswalker' is just too much. When there are a larger amount of cards that handle planeswalkers I'll reconsider my position but as of right now I stand by it. I know a lot of people do not agree with me.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Just a heads up if you double block a creature with enrage it only triggers once since the damage is simultaneous.

I'm actually interested in this. I have a few personal restrictions on my cube which eliminate the sorins and magister. I put lingering souls in my white section, and shambling vent in my lands. I dont run unburial rites because i feel i have a saturation of reanimator effects in my cube and that leaves me with only 4 cards in my 5 card orzhov section.
Something I missed the first time i looked at the card is that the activate only on your turn isnt restricted to sorcery speed so you can still swing with it, blow up their best creature before blocks for 7 life and then gain 4 life back. most times you are only going to end up paying 3 life to destroy their best non land permanent. seems like a decent rate. 4/4 vigilance lifelink can really stonewall a game if late game your opponent has spent up some removal on earlier threats.
Im probably overrating this but i think its a really cool card that will lead to interesting game play.

After the card depicted Braids so nicely R&D gave Braids her own card in the set which she originally never had. And thats how we ended up with such a cool powerful card. now I will always use this art even if it gets reprinted because of the trivia!
