the reference to "courts" has me thinking about the chronicles of amber. i could see the central plot revolving around an aristocratic power void. perhaps the old king has died and his three children all want to take over.
is that what game of thrones is about? is this a game of thrones thing?
What I posted above was the toned down version. The non-toned down version would only have one line of text: "You win the game."
if wotc made cards that were meant to represent the lore 1:1 the game would be unplayable. making the game fun is more important than capturing the power levels of specific characters accurately. you can kill a blind seer with a lightning bolt.
Yawgmoth, the Father of Machines
<cost>
Legendary Artifact Creature - God
P/T
Yawgmoth is indestructible
At the end of each players turn, return all permanents put into your graveyard this turn to the battlefield.
If the Father of Machines deals combat damage to a creature or planeswalker, exile that permanent.
Your opponents can't take control of the Lord of the Wastes.
If the Ineffable deals combat damage to a player, that player loses the game.
Anything less would be an insult to Phyrexians everywhere.
this is exactly the kind of cards wotc doesn't want to print. it's convoluted and over the top. wotc is more likely to print something splashy and shockingly simple like:
BBBBB
Legendary Creature - Human Cleric
Your graveyard is your hand.
1/3
1BBB
Legendary Creature - Human Cleric
All counters on creatures are -1/1 counters. All counters on players are poison counters.
Pay 3 life, sacrifice a creature: Proliferate
making a version of yawgmoth that represents him later in his life is probably unwise, as he became a sprawling and godlike being. that version of yawgmoth would be better represented as an enchantment or something.
of course serra isn't bant - she is one of the most heavily mono-white aligned characters ever. she created a plane that was entirely composed of white mana. stop letting your overly specific personal desires get in the way of what is logical.
i think they will avoid printing any cards which are heavily played in legacy. if legacy staples become legal in modern then suddenly modern starts to look more and more like legacy.
maro hinted at a reprint of concordant crossroads in a supplemental set and i don't think it would have much of an effect on modern considering mass hysteria is the same thing.
Still waiting patiently for a good angel commander or for a Serra planeswalker... I mean, Karona, Kaalia and Lyra are all fine and dandy, but... They kind of feel wrong... Is it too much to ask to be able to play Maelstrom Archangel in an angel tribal deck?
If the Commander 2020 are tribal centered (which I doubt), I would love to see something like:
"[type] Tribal Leader" (creature cards in your deck must be [type], ignore color identity restrictions for creatures of that type. You can spend colored mana as it was mana of any color to cast [type] creatures or to activate abilities of [type]).
Pretty much a commander with a built in effect similar to Celestial Dawn, but for creatures of a chosen type and the added restrictions of having only creatures of that type.
with all this stuff about ignoring color identity it doesn't really sound like you want to play edh. restrictions are what make good commanders. you want a 5 color angel commander that gives you generic value? that's not really even a card "design"...it's just mush. the reason why angel commanders are always stupid is because of what angels are - big flying creatures that don't work well in large numbers. if you made a bunch of small angels they would just be birds. speaking of which, there are way more angel commanders than bird commanders.
i haven't thought much about this years themes but last year i correctly guessed that it would be "permanent type" tribal. i really wanted a bant enchantress commander and we got one!...and i don't like her. i can't find the post where i made my full prediction but i know i guessed bant enchantments, izzet artifacts, and jund lands correctly. i don't remember what my last guess was but i'm pretty sure it wasn't "esper top of the deck tribal". this year i'm not so sure. bant enchantments and izzet artifacts were pretty easy guesses last time since there was kind of a clear void in the options available.
i'll make a random guess for this year:
- temur modal spell slinger (this is my DREAM commander, i don't actually expect it but i'm hoping)
- abzan cycling/discard
- jeskai changeling/clones (lorwyn themed?)
- u/g/colorless morph/manifest/vanilla matters/tokens
i ran out of ideas for that last one tbh but i think it sounds neat. people love muraganda petroglyphs.
"new booster products for X, Y, & Z" - that could be a single product type which is designed to appeal to all three categories. booster products sounds like a multiple different products but it could simply mean multiple products.

this was my line of thinking as well

maybe one of the worst ideas i've ever read.
concordant crossroads, shardless agent, cabal coffers, mirri's guile, selvala, heart of the wilds, stranglehold, thought vessel

i would be willing to bet 5 dollars that fblthb has a card in WAR.
