hoser2 posted a message on Vannifar, the return of podHere is a Reddit post about taking Bant Vannifar to Mythic on Arena. Genius! I kept thinking that the choice was between Vannifar and Hydroid Krasis. Why not both?Posted in: Deck Creation (Standard) -

hoser2 posted a message on Vannifar, the return of podThanks for posting anyway. Here's what I tweaked it to for when I am playing for fun. Feedback welcome! As the metas evolve and new cards are released over the next year and a half, we can hope for a more competitive showing. I have been getting better competitive results with controlling Grixis Midrange and Jund Deathwhirler myself, so I understand playing another deck for competitive reasons.Posted in: Deck Creation (Standard)
Good luck!

Timba posted a message on INSTANT HELP for FNM (TODAY)Yea Stubborn doesnt have great synergy with the deck becausePosted in: Modern Community
To enable its beast mode you need your payoff cards which require enablers or time. So its inefficient
Thats not a draw-go deck, its full of sorcery speed spells so often you will tap out and unable to use Stubborn. Or wait on your threats to be able to cast it and pray your opp play a high-impact spell. Lose/lose situation.
Lodestone Golem makes it cost more
1 copy is ok I think
You have a lot of discard, I think Liliana shouldnt be such a fatal threat
For Scapeshift you also have discard so its kinda ok, Id bring more counterspells from sideboard
UW Control doesnt care about Stubborn imo
Serum Visions can be ok because its kinda a combo deck, when you have enablers you want to find payoff and vice versa also your t1 slot is not overpopulated
I think 2 might be ok
Noxious Gearhulk seems to be lowest power, Id replace them with Wurmcoils and maybe cut whats left though I didnt play this deck and dont know how much high-end it requires -

hoser2 posted a message on Grixis Pirates - RIX stdI admire your bravery. I've wanted to play all the cool pirates, but choosing between so many that I wanted to play and coming up with a good manabase just seemed like more work than I wanted to take on yet. I did Rakdos because I figured Grixis had to be slower, which could be critical for an aggro deck.Posted in: Standard Archives
To be honest, most competitive decks won't allow the conditions for stealing a creature with the Admiral. I still want to do it at FNM levels of competition because fun!
There are so many good pirates that choosing between them is hard, as I said above. But I'm surprised not to see Kari-Zev or the Poisoner in the main and Dire Fleet Daredevil seems like a shoo-in for the sideboard. One With the Wind seems like a high risk/high reward strategy that could increase inconsistency, but I don't really know how it has worked for you.
To really help you with the actual contents of the deck, I want to know more about how the deck has worked for you. When it works well, what has worked and what were you playing against? When it doesn't work as well, what cards did you draw and what were you playing against?
I'll try to help on the manabase from theorycraft because it looks like that could produce some inconsistency, but bear in mind that I haven't been playing a Grixis deck and I've only played RB Pirates, so many grains of salt.
My bible for manabases is this article, which I've nearly memorized the key parts of. If you haven't already read it, you can blow off the theorycraft and skip to the tables.
For Daring Buccaneer and Siren Stormtamer on T1 you would want 14 untapped R and U respectively. For Dreamcaller you would want 18 U on T4. For Freebooter and others you would want 13 B on T2. Those are the mana requirements I see. You currently have T1 R = 8, T1 U = 11, T4 U = 16, T2 B = 14. But only 7 lands that enable Catacomb to come into play untapped and 3 that allow Summit likewise. Another problem is that we have only 9 lands that allow us to cast Lightning Strike. Can we get closer? How about:
- +1 Unclaimed Territory
- -1 Swamp
Now our requirements are T1 B = 14, T1 U = 14, T4 U = 18, T4 R = 11
Uh, yeah. Now I remember why I didn't want to tackle the Grixis manabase. Honestly, I want to skip T1 except for straightening out the mana and build around
4 Fetid Pools, 4 Summit, 4 Catacomb, 4 Canyon Slough, 4 Unclaimed Territory. If the remaining 3 lands are Islands then we are still worse off for casting Dreamcaller than when we started. That gives 11 lands that allow untapped Catacomb and 8 that allow untapped Summit. But we have excess B sources, so what about:
Grixis Pirate manabaseMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards 4 Fetid Pools
4 Drowned Catacomb
4 Unclaimed Territory
3 Canyon Slough
3 Dragonskull Summit
4 Spirebluff Canal
1 Island
I think this would be more consistent, but I don't know if it seems better to you. Either way, I don't see us hitting our one drops consistently on turn 1. Is it worth running the 1 drops at all? Maybe, in that we can double-spell on T3-4.
Further, I don't believe in Dreamcaller Siren and Lightning Strike together in this deck. You originally only had 9 lands that would cast Strike and my proposal only has 10. -

Ulka posted a message on Heartless ArchitectOn search: I have thought about it a lot but i feel it falls flat and here's why:Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
- Doesn't get any cost reductions
- gets taxed by Lodestone
- With Glint-nest, Mulldrifter, and Tezzeret We already can dig for our threats
I just feel its a weaker option as we have the artifact diggers/ mulldrifter draw - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Fixed sideboard
3x Chalice of the Void
2x Engineered Explosives
3x Inquisition of Kozilek
Other Flex options i use depending on the day
Illness in the Ranks: is good against tokens in general. Bant Eldrazi uses tokens (Drowner of Hope/Eldrazi Scion), BW tokens, Storm (sometimes he just not combo in first try and put many tokens)
Silent Arbiter: in last big tournament, i just try this guy, cause i know this day had many Naya Zoos and other aggros, but i dont face an aggro this day
Sea's Claim: For land hate: Valakut, Trons, ELdrazi Temple, Spreading seas looks better, but i dont have for the day
Pithing Needle
Ensnaring Bridge: Just removed, but used to hold big creatures we couldnt remove, and try win outside combat
Relic of Progenitus / Nihil Spellbomb: Grave hate
Grafdigger's Cage grave and CoCo hate
Yahenni's Expertise

Let me share this beatiful thing in my AMK Pre =D

My matchs was with Bant Eldrazi, UWR Kiki-jiki and Grixis.
on Bant Eldrazi, the match was bad for me, lot of removal, fast big creatures, discards. Have experience with this match? (the big difference i see is you have +2 skite on main then i) 4 skite on MB make all this difference?
probably yes, but do you have tested or thinking about Frost Titan for ur build ? I study this part of the day, and he have some synergy if put before the lodestone Golem (and is real felt in love for Lodestone), and a Titan and 1 Lodetone make this hard to removal with a nice body and some point of control (and is blue) but otherside ... he is not an artifact, not tutorable and catch with Tezzeret (this i got 1 more, have 2 in build now) and has the risk to stuck in hand. This look great and not at the same time for me
2. I came back to consider Master of etherium, fast, grow in game, cancel the drawback of Heartless and make one option more for aggro plan, and make the lodestone more resistence for not dia for a simples choice of Kolaghan's Command (2 dmg, only artifact)
waiting for your shares,
tks
