This is my first post in this forum (as you can probably tell)... I hope it wasn't that bad. I'm sure my wording was off or something, but I like the idea of this card anyway!
I'm sure I'll be playing both Rocks the 80s and III when I'm back to school. My roommate is absolutely obsessed. Until then, though, I'll go buy my Wii (hopefully this week...) and veg out playing Zelda.
Btw, Dio's "Holy Diver" brings back good South Park memories.
Seems like you've got some nice guys there in the envicar/mortivore/assorted green fat, but spell wise looks like you could have done a bit better, though it'd help if we knew your entire pool.
I was running really low on spells, period.
If I remember correctly though, isn't sealed normally done with 5 boosters? We were only given 3 to open, which probably explains the overall natural lack of spells. R spells I remember pulling were Pyroclasm and Firebreathing.
Yeah, it is kind of sad that people take this seriously, but the truth is that some people will. Being a Christian myself, I find this to be a travesty, as someone unaware of the satire could be deterred or confused.
Slightly annoyed he had been cut off by some skinny guy as Professor Willow became free again, Aron nudged his Phanpy and they turned to their left... where a pretty lab tester, about his age, was kneeling down, tending to an ugly pink dog (was it wearing a dress???) guarding one of its paws. She stood up, taking Aron by surprise.
He blushed, which Phillie noticed while the lab girl did not. She still had her head down, caring for the dog. The "little" Phanpy rolled in laughter on the floor by Aron's feet...
CRASH
"Phillie, watch yourself!" Aron kept the tester from falling, reaching out to steady her as he play-scolded his new companion. He turned back to the girl.
"Sorry about that, just got him today, the little guy... What were you doing with that Pokemon? D'you like working for the Professor? Did you go to school to start doing what you are now? S-sorry, again... whew... Hi, I'm Aron." Dude, just shut up and smile, everyone likes your smile...
Aron was pointed toward an important-looking building as he left the Center.
Striding up to the large doors with his Phanpy trotting right behind him, he noticed a neat, professional placard: Willow's Laboratory.
Hmm, this is bound to be interesting if nothing else, Aron thought as he pulled the door open. He hopped backward immediately though, scooping up Phillie (oof, he's a heavy tyke, like picking up a ten year old) as several people and Pokemon filed out.
Man, I'm joining the party late, it seems. Might as well take a gander inside anyway.
Aron sat Phillie down and motioned for the still awkward Pokemon to follow along. The two entered to see several white labcoats running about testing and measuring, observing and examining. It was a little much to absorb.
Aron wandered toward the back of the large room, where he approached who he could only presume to be the professor. Phillie waddled on ahead as Aron slowed, but sticking his foot out to tap the Phanpy, both stopped short and waited politely for Professor Willow to finish whatever business he was currently attending to...
Hmm, this last Saturday was my first tournament (yay me, yeah yeah... :P), just a Tenth Edition sealed at our local gaming store's game day event. I didn't know quite what to expect (all my prior experience has been online), but it didn't go so bad... I managed to take a prize home.
Anyway, my deck scheme was B/G with some W and Artifact lifegain as my splash. I really don't have a clue if that's a plausible strategy or not, I'm still learning. My U was weak, and I had a decent shot with R, but it was very individual, not fitting neatly together like I thought my B/G cards did. Off the top of my head (I think I know most of them...) I remember having
It might not have been the strongest, but I liked the tactic I created for myself - basically hope that Angelic Chorus and Angel's Feather came out quickly, then watch as my tough creatures gained me life. Sometimes it worked that way, other times I had to play it slow with my defense, and if I was holding Mortivore, they were blocking like nobody's business (I'm sure you all can see this).
I noticed one thing: I'm pretty certain I needed a faster deck... maybe R was the way I should have gone (really sorry... I don't remember what I pulled).
The point is, I really wish I had me one of those Loxodon Warhammers...
If it's alright that I join this (I just joined today) I'll submit an application - if not, I understand.
Name: Aron Age: 20 Gender: Male Height/Weight: 6' 0" 180 lb. Appearance: Aron has brilliant green eyes, which his thick, dark hair often comes close to covering. He has a patch of freckles on his left cheek often suspected to be dirt, but in all actuality is just a birthmark. His arms are a little longer than usual, a result of his broad shoulders. He is in decent shape. Usual Outfit: Very usual college attire - khaki shorts and a collared shirt (UNPOPPED, thank you very much :D), sandals if he's not being very active, some cross trainers if he plans to do some walking. Reason for becoming a trainer: Fresh out of his postsecondary education, Aron is facing the pressure of committing to a future. His parents urge him to pursue a well-paying 9 to 5 position before being handed the reins of the family business. He feels very overwhelmed, and needs a stress reliever. After talking with his family, it is agreed for Aron to take the time he needs traveling the countryside to clear his head. Having always had a fascination with Pokemon, he decides to spend a year (or longer!) learning the ropes as a trainer.
Pokemon:
Phillie, a Phanpy named in honor of a similar Pokemon that Aron's family adopted as a pet at the beginning of the summer. This is Aron's key reminder of home.
Hi! I picked up Magic this summer when my friends became re-interested in the game. I'm an honest-to-goodness new guy.
I guess my question, then, is where do I start if I want to become a serious player? To give you an idea of where I'm at: I've read a lot of Magic Academy as far as turn structure, the stack, basic deckbuilding, and the different formats. That probably makes me casual at best (I've made a few decks from shared cards and played my friends) and I think I'm pretty good on the basic theory, just looking to chew on the bigger chunk of meat, if you will.
So I started hunting around on the forums (maybe not well enough, that's where you can help!) and see lots of terms concerning popular decks, and am trying to trace back what these decks are, 'cause I have no idea what Pickles, Gruul, etc. are. I'm not having much luck to say the least.
I figure if I'm going to start collecting and trading and building for less casual competitions, I want to know what the strong decks out there are now. I'm not really asking for hand-holding, just some place to read the ideas behind the popular decks right now. Thanks!

So Aron left it at his name and smiled.
