Feb 16, 2007NaiNebel posted a message on Still possible for me to return to x-ray?I do hope that you get the chance to do this. It sounds like a good plan, not only to get confidence and relationships with patients, but also to establish a reputation within the hospital system. I'll be rooting for you, Cecilia.Posted in: Cecilia's Teardrop

Feb 15, 2007Agreed with Joyd. And I feel your pain regarding lost pets; I've lost more than I care to name. It's sad... but it was nice being with them.Posted in: Alacar's Design Zone

You know... I think you have something here. It goes along with that old saying "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." But don't go leaving us, Mamelon. Just appreciate us for what we are, no 'numbing' needed. -

Jan 29, 2007NaiNebel posted a message on Never Spill a DropI have some of the same thoughts, Mamelon. Mind, mine stem from the fact that my dad left one day and never returned, having killed himself. I'm always worried that, if I don't hear from someone for an extended period of time (depending on the relationship), that something has happened. If my mom is missing for more than 15 minutes longer than she should, I usually start calling. I'm worried about being out of touch with people. So I know how you feel.Posted in: Litte Jar of Mamelon

Upsy-Daisy is important, yes. But I found an Overripe Buncher to be very useful for my 'all attack' command.
Things you don't often see in a review are 'play length' and 'replayability'. Metal Gear Solid: Revengeance has a solid 80 going right now on Metacritic, but the game only last about an average of 6 hours (so I hear on the grapevine). I'd think that such a low play time and little to no replayability would hurt the game's score, personally. But these aren't things that the typical buyer (Mom, Dad, that guy that only plays one or two games a year) pays attention to.
Madden 13 on the Xbox is averaging an 80 as well on Metacritic, but I'm continually hearing complaints from customers that there's little to no improvement on the previous year, it doesn't feel right, the game wasn't worth their time. So how's it getting that 80?
Even better, NCAA 14 (let's keep to the same type of game as an example) has an average critic score of 77 from 18 critics. But an average user score of 5.9 based on 50 user reviews. That's a very large gap.
So yeah. Critic reviews seem to focus on the 'dazzle' aspects of various games. How good they look, what the multiplayer is like, things like that. Things that sell while you're on the sales floor. They don't tend to focus on the things that keep you happy with your purchase afterwards. So Fable III (as much as I love the game) gets an 80 average while users are sitting at 6.6/10. AAA title, much awaited, it's got multiplayer, it looks nice, there's big names in it (John Cleese!). But there's no real replayability, the multiplayer isn't really all that good, the final boss is terrible, the game's fairly short, and it falls short of expectations.
And I found multiple times that my AI would use all three of their familiars, but you need to give the right commands to actually get them to do it. If they have a tank, they'll use it in 'all defend'. If they have a good alpha striker, they'll use it in 'all attack'. And then they might use the third in general.
You need to also make sure it's of a genus that's one of their 'favorites'. I think they're more likely to use a familiar if it's a fave.
Unlocked all characters, beat Mom and Mom's Heart with everyone except ???, beat Isaac with Isaac, beat Satan with Cain and Judas, and got to Mom with ???.
I feel accomplished.
Basically, as you play trading card-activated games, you have a chance of getting a 'drop'. Just buying the game entitles you to roughly 1/2-3/5ths of the available cards (if there's 6 cards, you'll get 3, if there's 7, you'll get 4). As you play you'll collect up to your buy-limit. Reaching that limit entitles you to a 'booster pack' that will drop some more cards. You CAN get duplicates.
If you get all of the cards of a set, you can turn them in to craft a badge. OUtside of the summer sale this would give you, potentially, free downloadables, games, or just things for your Steam profile. It also gives you experience towards Steam levels, which apparently do little to nothing.
During the summer sale, all bets are off, apparently.
You can also sell the cards for a small amount in your Steam wallet if you don't care, but that appears to be a waste.
Reus and Dust are on sale today. I'd definitely recommend both to anyone who's thinking about them.
Tomb Raider, Stardrive, Retro/Grade, Fez, Dark Souls, Hotline Miami, Endless Space. I'm sure there'll be more I"m interested in as the days go buy, since I rarely buy stuff that's not on sale.
I picked up Skulls of the Shogun just before the sale started. That game is so good.
Speaking of the summer sale: Trading cards. I have two of Tomb Raider and two Dead Island. I'm looking for Bioshock Infinite, Football manager 2013, Kerbal Space Program, Prison Architect, or Reus. Anyone have one they'd be willing to trade for one of mine?
But yeah. I can see why Steam does what they do. Not exactly a fan, but I can see why
