Why would Mirage Mirror not be a sweet card? Does it not combo with Sharuum alongside being a decent utility card?
Along with some of the other posters, I have moved to Breya. My Breya list focuses on Doomsday, Ad Naus, and George to either win with Lab Man or with a large number of Breya activations. I played around with a package of Aetherflux Reservoir, Shimmer Myr, and cost reducers to make bunches of life and pop opponents for 50, but it was ultimately too cute.
I disagree. I think she is different from Sharuum, and potentially better. Having access to red lets us also get more card filtering. I've already thrown together a list, and she seems promising, but only time will tell.
Once you bin everything, you only need the 6 for our lady. Cast her, get gearhulk, hulk casts flicker targeting our lady and the hulk, our lady grabs altar, and hulk casts cloudshift targeting our lady, who grabs metamorph.
Yes, getting the pieces into play can seem like a pain, but the pieces have utility in themselves. Monolith is an okay rock, orb helps us get targets in the yard, but the flicker effects are marginal I'll admit.
I used to run a more engine-based list, but my Thursday Night playgroup is usually more casual, so I got hated out quickly. I still do, most of the time. So I decided to speed up and slim down. I finally got the stones to take out Ugin because he kept killing me off Ad Nauseam, and since then I haven't gotten to play with my usual group, but in the one on one game I play with my best mates (Yisan and Meren, both tuned) it does quite well.
My Intuition piles usually are one of two things: Lab Man, Rites, and some other cars; or both clones and some utility or mana Rock. And more rarely I'll just grab goodstuff piles.
Engine Sharuum is still good, but I feel it has trouble competing with faster combo decks (see Zur and Jeleva). Did you have a tough time of it? If some new toys get printed that make up for the crap that Sharuum has gotten shoveled on it, I would love to go back to the Engine build. For now, though, at least in my meta, it has a very hard time keeping up.
That being said, I've added four of the Dangerous Draw cards (Ad Nauseam, Tainted Pact, Demonic Consulation, and Spoils of the Vault) and Lab Man. So far, it's performed wonderfully! Not having to rely on Sharuum is quite nice, and with Unburial Rites, things get out of hand very quickly...
What does everyone think of Stunt Double? It is another way to go infinite at instant speed, and reasonably costed. It's not and artifact, though, but I feel it has some use with being able to flash in and copy the craziest creature on the field.
I dunno, Kaladesh seems to have artifact themes, so we can hope. But I think Scars of Mirrodin made them hesitant to make artifacts great again, but we shall see.
I plan on putting in many hours of playtime with my deck, with the new additions of Angel's Grace, Ad Nauseam, Silence, Tainted Pact, Demonic Consultation, Plunge into Darkness, and Spoils of the Vault. I am finishing up my mana base, and I expect to see an increase in consistency. I removed the Foundry/Sieve combo for some of the above pieces. The deck currently goldfishes Turn 4, which isn't good enough. It can hit on Turn 3, but not reliably.
For those curious, my main meta is Yisan, Zurgo, Edric, and Meren, usually 1v1 or 3-player pods. I sometimes play in 4-player pods, but those are against lower power decks.
I think Sharuum can still be a contender. She may not be Tier 1 for now, but still powerful. I too am disappointed in the lack of good printings, and look forward to some fantastic tools in the future!
I've run into the same cuts problem. I am thinking about cutting the foundry package for speed combo resiliency.
How many islands are you running to get benefits from High Tide? Does it interfere with the utility land slots?
Has anyone tried a Doomsday package in Sharuum? I've been thinking about it.
How do you draw for LabMan wins? Eggs loops? Tainted Pact/Demonic Consultation?
I'm missing the Workshop, Twister, and LED, as well as the ABUR duals, so my deck isn't quite there yet, but I suppose optimized Sharuum Combo is indeed Tier One.
I have found that I often win with an eggs-like loop, which I think add some measure of resiliency to the deck. I think Angel's Grace will be a great inclusion: stop that Doomsday pile from winning the game. Tell Craterhoof "No." Ad Nauseam becomes even more rediculous.
I have found, though, that Sharuum's 6 cmc can be difficult at times. We have a ton of ramp, so it's usually fine, but it makes a T2-4 combo very difficult.
That being said, she's stillness very strong, although perhaps tier 2 instead of tier 1 as the Glorious Engine Sharuum was (moment of silence).
Speaking of Silence, do y'all think it's a worthy inclusion?
Along the line of fast combo, have Tainted Pact or Demonic Consultation been tested? I think I'll try to grab a copy of each to run alongside Ad Nauseam.
So, what happens if we get the WUBR legend, and it has some artifact synergy? Would it require a whole new build, or is it something we could roll Sharuum into? I know one of the strengths with Sharuum is the resiliency of her going back to the command zone instead of permanent exile, so I'm hesitant. However, being able to play Welder, Wheel, Gamble, and some of the other red cards is tempting. I know speculation now is tough, but let's say that, for example, that the WUBR legend is vanilla, would it be worth it to run, kind of like how Jeleva is leading storm decks for the identity. Obviously, her ability can come in handy, but we won't take that into account concerning our new legend. Would Sharuum be part of the 99, or would it be too much strain to set up the combos?
Thoughts on running Bubbling Muck? I get that it may not be good in the engine build, but going Urborg, Muck, Time Spiral seems *really* good. It is pretty niche though, so perhaps I'll save it for a stormier version.
although, since I do run several untap cards (time spiral and frantic search come to mind) it might be worth a look. Speaking of, what is y'all's option on Frantic Search? It's not amazing, but a "free" loot 2 effect seems good.

I think it may be the new best way to build Sharuum.
