I see your point about Anger of the Gods, but it has been very efficient in my tests, and most of the time, IF the Monastery Mentor is on the board, it will get +1/+1 with Anger and you only need another spell like Gut Shot (if you don't have extra mana), or Lightning Bolt to keep it alive. If that happens, you can rebuild your board pretty quickly. I will try it a little more before replacing it.
I agree with you that Blood Moon would make the WW cards more difficult to play, but that is why I have 3 plains in the deck and 6 fetches that can bring them to play. I almost always fetch Plains. Aurelia's Fury isn't that hard to play because you can play it with only three manas and stop your opponent from playing noncreature spells for an entire turn (if played in upkeep), or you can tap his/her creatures.
I like the idea of replacing Noxious Revival by Manamorphose though. I will try that one for sure, but Noxious Revival was just another way to get the creatures back. Thank you so much.
I agree that I am playing a lot of phyrexian mana, but I don't really wanna play with Death's Shadow, especially because it takes quite some time for me to go below 13 life. I don't think that would be a very good strategy. Also because playing Death's Shadow doesn't help with the triggers.
Hi guys,
I am trying to bring Monastery Mentor to Modern for a long time because I really like the card. It is fun to play with and it provides a very interesting interaction for the game. I've tried other color combination (Abzan, Azorius, Jeskai, Mono White, etc), but Boros seems to be the funniest and more reliable so far, since I am not a control player.
I would like to improve it, so it can be more competitive in the current meta. As you all know, it is very hard to keep a creature in play as well as to keep them from being discarded.
The strategy with this deck is to put Young Pyromancer and/or Monastery Mentor into play and burn the opponent to death. With all the tokens in play it is easy to kill by attacking him/her, and if the creatures fail to stay in the board, you can simply use the good and old burn strategy.
If you get into a match up where you know you can put many tokens into play, then there is another win condition: Burn at the Stake.
I've tried using the cheap token spells like Raise the Alarm and Spectral Procession, in conjunction with Intangible Virtue, but they were not very efficient against the meta and it didn't provide the same results I am getting with the burn strategy.
I haven't tried Leyline of Sanctity in the sideboard yet, but I will soon. Another consideration for main deck would be Chandra, Torch of Defiance, but I don't have the card ($40 a piece), so I don't know if that would help.
Hi guys,
I am still trying to bring the landfall mechanics to my decks. I put this one together yesterday and it has been doing good so far in MTGO Tournament Practice. I have won a few matches against Smallpox, BW Tokens, Red Deck Wins, and some others including Grixis Death's Shadow, but I think it can be improved.
As you will see, I don't have many playsets, and the reason is that I am trying different cards to see which one is better. Also, the reason why I am playing birds instead of noble is because I don't have the card in MTGO and to protect myself against flyers.
The idea here is to bring as many lands as possible to the battlefield, so that they can help the Undergrowth Champion to grow and feeding both Tunneling Geopede and Hedron Crab. With Commune with the Gods I hope to find Retreat to Coralhelm and Ruin Ghost (the other cards that look for creatures also help) which creates the infinite landfall combo.

Hi guys,
I have been playing MTG for about 15 years and as many of you I had to stop a few times because of changes in life.
About 4 years ago I've moved to South Florida and unfortunately I couldn't find anyone to play with, so I decided to create a meetup group, so people can find me and other players.

Well, there are a few things that can protect the combo and with the transmute ability + extra drawing I believe is going to be easy to put the pieces together. The problem I am facing now is what to cut off from the deck because it has 70 cards and the sideboard is just a few ideas on what else can be done. I am not inclined to do another Bant Company deck, but it is also possible.
I guess I will have to test the deck to determine the right quantities of each card to build a more solid deck within the 60 cards.
Thank you for your help.
Step 1: Tap birds to pay for ruin ghost
Step 2: Both Coralhelms activate, untap both creatures, repeat.
Step 3: Kill with whatever landfall combo you have.
Reserved.
You can go infinite without the birds. 1 Retreat to Coralhelm + 1 Ruin Ghost give you infinite Landfalls (remember that the land comes back UNTAPPED).
Hello guys, I am trying to brew a new Combo-Control deck based on the mechanic Landfall.
The deck has synergy and there are a few win conditions, but the main idea is to put Ruin Ghost and Retreat to Coralhelm into play quickly, so you can combo with Adventuring Gear, Emeria Angel, Hedron Crab, Steppe Lynx, Tideforce Elemental, Hedron Scrabbler, or even Cosi's Ravager if we can find a way to put that card in this deck.
I didn't have time to test it, and as you can see, I am having a hard time to build the 60+15 cards deck. Any help is appreciated.
I have tried that configuration, but it is very hard to cast the Young Pyromancer because of the speed you need to lock the opponent.
The Extirpate is still in the list because of its cost online, compared to Surgical Extraction.
I was able to lock 2 out of 4 opponents so far. The main issue though is to stop decks that aren't Net Decks and have 1 or 2 copies of the majority of cards (which I am fine with). The Sadistic Sacrament has been very impressive, especially when you need to see the whole deck first before you start naming cards. Dreadbore is to stop planeswalkers because it is hard to deal with Lilianas and other cheap planeswalkers if you don't cast Young quickly. That is also the reason why I am keeping Lightning Bolt.
The configuration is like this now:
I agree with you that Blood Moon would make the WW cards more difficult to play, but that is why I have 3 plains in the deck and 6 fetches that can bring them to play. I almost always fetch Plains.

I am not sure about the Sheltering Light because Boros Charm already does protect your creatures, but since Young Pyromancer and Monastery Mentor are your main source of power, I believe that they need more protection.
