I can't wait till I get AV for my U/B control and try out TT paired up with it. I love TT. I've won almost all my matches when I cast TT and flashback following up XD

I havent been to happy with Esper Control locally as of late. Playgroup has been pushing me to play more wincons, but the deck really falls apart when you start drawing batterskulls when you need answers.

I stepped away from Mystical Teachings for a while, but have had horrid finishes since I dropped it. Lots of lost casual matches and 1-3 in Modern Monday at LGS. The only deck I actually took down was a standard deck someone was running since they just wanted to play some magic.

Archangel Avacyn is in here as as a curve topper threat. It's not the most resilient, and it's weaker than Baneslayer, but Baneslayer requires us to Tap Low on our main phase. Also the Indestructible clause isn't irrelevant. I was able to flash in Avacyn to double block a Smasher with Snapcaster Mage and come out unscathed. Not sure if it will continue to be good, but I'll be trying it for a while. Also can be searched out with Teachings which is nice.

Rain of Tears is another experiment. So far Steam Vents+Crumble to Dust has been really lack luster. Its just too slow to make a difference, assuming I draw it and it gets through Warping Wail. Im already running extraction as my Graveyard hate of choice, so 3 Rains + 2 Ghost Quarters is 5 ways to bin tron lands and then surgical extraction can take care of the rest. Again maybe not as good as im hoping it will be, but ill never know until I give it a shot.

This list is much more focused on playing at Instant speed than my last iteration, so hopefully this will put up some decent results.

I will say, my local meta is quite slow. We have lots of slow Grindy decks like Grixis, another Esper player, Jeskai, Skred and Gifts. This is probably the reason I can get away with Teachings, and have it be the all star that it is.

Let me know how rain of tears work for you. I'm trying out spreading seas for tron/ manlands

Side the paths and visions out?

Thinking about it now. It probably bad for you guys on esper. Since path is like the best spot removal in game.

I run u/b draw go. So path is not in my deck. Which is another reason I think chalice would be good.

Right. However they only got 2 creatures out. While you got chalice up for rest of their deck. Idk seems good to me

    Undeniably useful? How?

    Me: turn one colonnade

Opponent: turn one goblin guide or Wild nacatl

Me: turn two chalice for 1. Wait , *****, now I can't even path or snare, the two most important early cards in my deck

    Scooooooop

Or also: lose the die roll

    Turn 1 nacatal

    Me turn 1 colonnade

Turn 2 nacatal, kird ape / noble hierarch

Me chalice for 1.... Because .... That matters at this point?

Why would you scoop on turn 2? When you got path in hand lol

Yeah if your on the draw it be a bad play. Chalice would be a side board option. Imo

I will still test it. Seeing how it hits alot of early threats.

Its too slow, countering 1 drop spells starting on turn 2 is just not where we want to be.
I'd love mental misstep to be legal in this format (or a fixed version) to go hand and hand with spell snare, but alas.
Invasive surgery is playable in the board if cards like ancestral visions, thoughtseize, etc, are giving you problems, but its not a perfect card here

It may be to slow. However we are stalling early turn 2 then stabilize turn 3 with a counter or spot removal while they have dead cards in hand.

So what are your guys thoughts on Chalice of the Void for hard countering one drop spells that we can't hit? (I'm having hard times with thoughtsieze, bolt, ect) Thinking about adding it to my list of u/b

I'm starting to wonder if perilous vault is actually decent as a 1 or 2 of SUPER engineered explosives. a lot slower, but still.

    I'm brewing u/w Shoal-go.

If anybody here gets a half-chub going on whenever they think of casting Whispers of the muse in modern, then stay tuned.

Once I land a perilous vault it stalls the board up. Gives me time to get more counters/win con going

Ratchet bomb and perilous vault are my anti blood moon cards form my side. I run u/b control so I have lil options. They are slow but do the job

Anyone still play u/b control or is it just me still? Sorry for bumping a old thread

Went 1-2 and last round was a bye. Overall a great learning experience for me. I preforme better and better every time I go.
I will need to make my decisions faster. All my matches went close to time.

The deck I used is a page back. Only change was. 2x black sun zenith 3x darkslick shore
Got 2x damnation and 3x sunken ruins. (Getting those through mail. Rip $200) 4x polluted delta. (didn't like them at 4x. I'll explain later)

    Round 1 game 1
I go to my card shop alot. Played there quite a few times. Never seen this dude. I Judge people by what there deck sleeves are and playmats are. Try to pin them on a deck/play style before the first land/card.
Had him on junk deck. Or coco. Plays bant eldrazi. Never seen it or know anything about it. He opens up with the nuts. I had counters for his big eldrazi, but he had the lil dudes too. Didn't see my board wipe other than consume the meek. Game 1 him
Game 2. I land ashiok nightmare Weaver (love her/it) she almost wins me the game, but he sticks a thought-knot dude. Kills her with like 8 cards left in his deck and time was at 4 min. I could have played a lil different. This match up is hard for me. Being midrangy. I had trouble keeping his threats off board.

    Round 2 game 1
Dude I played before and he plays boros prowess burn. Game 1 nuts again with my opponent. Apparently I know how to cut a deck haha. 3x goblin guides. The prowess dude. And lighting bolt. Dead in 5 mins
Game 2. He opens strong. Gets me down to 7 life in 4 turns. Land a spell skit. Followed up with ashiok. Ultimate. Plus a few times. Get Kor fire walker 2x. I don't understand why he sides him in. He scoops

Game 3. Counter all his stuff. Land double spell skite. Followed up again with ashiok. All being stuck on 4 lands for like 6 turns. I ultimate ashiok 2 times for lolz. Cast wurmcoil engine and he scoops.

Round 3 game 1 never seen the guy. Had him on rwu control. Turn one for me I probe see a almost foil jund hand. (Crap). I see that I have a turn 3 ashiok safely. I can win this. Pass turn. Tops abrupt decay. Sad panda. He processed to win the game after I made a mistake of delving my think twice. Shouldn't have used murderest cut on his ooze.

Game 2. He opens inquisition of kozilek. Sees my hand. Plays around cryptic Command and negate. I stall for a bit. I noticed I should have been hitting him with creeping tar pit while I had the board shut down with ratchet bomb. He wins with ooze and his r/g man land.

I'll look into more spot removal. I feel like I need more.

The 4x polluted delta. I was maining 2x. Felt goood. Got two more tonight before modern monday. I noticed when I play I would draw my deltas late games. Where I'm at low life (10 or less). Did not feel right. I'll be going over my mana base again.

The jund and eldrazi match ups. How are you guys handling them? I need help with them. Any cards in b/u good for the midrange?
