Yeah, in theory. Every time I've played the deck, he's been really underwhelming for me. He just sorta sits there and I almost never want to search him out with 1 drops.

Then what are you searching out? There aren't many other good 2 drops that you can Pod through and get value out of. He accelerates you into your deck basically and is great versus aggro, taking out a creature and fixing/accelerating your mana.

I mean, keep in mind they're already boarding in artifact hate against you and having that Sword sit on the table for a long time isn't likely to happen. Also swords belong on creatures? :p What else can they be put on? Imo you're better off playing more threats they have to answer since Sword is kinda slow and doesn't offer as much in the long game as Pod.

So you say Swords don't belong because they detract the artifact hate away from Pod? If they board in 4 Naturalize and you have 4 Pods and 3 Swords, this is what you would want to happen.

In a deck full of creatures, Equipment is good. That's what I was getting at. I didn't know it was that hard to tell...

I see. Well i really like them both. But TukTuk really helps going into a more aggresive style. What are your thoughts on Perilous Myr?.

And yeah with Urabrask i bet it's hella awesome. I personally prefer the Red hero. But i might try the white also.

    Haha thanks!

Perilous Myr are okay. Obviously they are fantastic in the GBx version due to Glissa, but they are still good removal and Pod fodder. The thing I don't like about it is that I wouldn't want to run more than one. They are just terrible outside of aggro, and even if I did have one, I'm pretty sure I would just go for Viridian Emissary if I had Pod because it will also take down a creature (not two though, which Myr could do) but it also accelerates my game which is what I would want more than killin an x/2 and an x/1.

Swords are good on creatures. This deck is full of creatures. I'm not saying they definitely belong, but have any of you tested them? They turn your stupid mana dorks or small utility creatures into actual threats and there are times where you can't find or resolve Pod, so this is very important. Half the games I have played with my Birthing Pod deck end up coming down to my creatures just grinding it out because I didn't have Pod. Having a Sword in there would have helped in those games that I lost. All I am saying is don't outright dismiss it. I plan on testing it.

I would run both honestly. The more cantrips you have, the more consistently you find Pod. Without Pod, the deck is just a mass of creatures and unless you get a good draw and curve out well, games can be rough. Ponder and Preordain help with that and allow you to keep filtering through trash like mana dorks later in the game to keep churning out threats or find your "I win" card in Pod. I think a split of the two is very justified because it's what gives blue the advantage over splashing other colors.

I never understood the whole thing with Verdant Catacombs why would I want to pay a life just to put another land out? I mean why not just put another swamp in your deck? I mean if I had a deck that was both swamps and forest, I could understand, but in a mono black deck, or red/black deck. I don't get it? What am I missing?

Thanks for any advice, I somewhat understand you can get two swamps in 1 turn, but in some ways you don't because you can still only play one "land" card at a time. I dunno. Can you give a good example of where it would come in hand, and for that matter 4 of them.

    Bloodghast has Landfall.

Yeah. That's why i changed to Naya. And it's more aggresive, just how i like it.

I can see that you're using TukTuk the explorer, i love that guy. I just don't know how to make him fit in. The deck looks pretty good, you're using some good creatures that i'm not, such as Archon of justice. And how is Hero of bladehold working for you?. I prefer Emeria Angel over that guy. But just wondering if he's working for you.

PD: Is your avatar picture from the movie Shooter?.

I'm still unsure of Tuktuk. I used to play Survival of the Fittest in Legacy quite a bit before Venegvine and before it was banned and the key to those older Survival decks was working well without Survival. I feel Tuktuk can be a a lousy draw but it is still decent without Pod. It's good versus sweepers and I feel that helps in this Pod deck because it is much more aggressive. I think Blade Splicer and Tuktuk both have different advantages and disadvantages so I have been liking the split.

Hero of Bladehold has been good. It can get insane and just win out of no where with Urabrask, but it still is a great threat without and allows the deck to swarm better and just overpower other aggro decks in the mid game.

I'm still tweaking the list and I'll let you know how it goes.

And yes that is Kate Mara from a scene in Shooter :). Good eye!

I was making Bant Pod, but I just hated omitting red. Blue gives Preordain and Ponder to find Pod which is the biggest loss, imo, but White and Red just have the best creatures and abuse Pod the best.

Love. This. Deck. I was trying to put together this Black and Red deck with Chandra and Liliana where it won with Sorin's Vengeance and Chandra and then I remembered seeing this! I had to put together a list, so here it is.

Much more draw-go oriented that then just drops a Planeswalker and rides it home. I had Slagstorms in there but had to cut them to make room.

I personally think you are lacking in card draw, have you considered running some solemn simulacrum to have a little bit of ramp and CA from chumping or board wiping?

Oh I agree as well. I brought that up and was looking for things better than Sign in Blood. I do like Solemn a lot and was actually liking the idea of throwing Sphere of the Suns in for some ramp but Solemn is way better.

I'm still trying to cut the list down which is tough since it probably means I axe the discard to the SB. I can't really cut burn because I already feel 8 is the minimum with 4 Chandra's Phoenix and plus I need the reach. I can't trim any black removal since I need some answers to Titans, Wurmcoils, etc. I think I might have to go with something like this.

I'll go ahead and start with a VERY rough list to hopefully make explaining the deck I have in mind better.

There was a Legacy deck a while back called Red Death. Basically, it was a Mono Black Suicide deck that splashed red for burn. It allowed the deck to remove weenies to get it's threats by and then use those same burn spells to end the game. Well, that is what I had in mind when I started piecing the deck together, but over the time of constructing the list, it varied into more of a midrange BR deck.

My hopes were to build a mono black deck and splash red. Every land still taps for black to support the powerful Phyrexian Obliterator and the red splash is for reach, Chandra's Phoenix, and Chandra. A big goal of mine being to cast Sorin's Vengeance and copy it with Chandra! Hawt.

Well, here is what I have scrapped together and the list needs trimming. I tried including everything I thought could/should go in the deck and then it can be cut down from there. My main qualms are the lack of draw or library manipulation. I added Liliana to help this and it would provide a nice toolbox and way to assemble the little combo if needed, but I need something more. Sign in Blood is possible, but is there anything better?

I also have no clue on the board. I'm going into a meta I know nothing about so I am planning on just putting up a decent sideboard to help me in a very varied meta. Ideas on this?

I think this idea has some merit as a deck that dominates the mid game and can pack a powerful punch late. It has all the removal in the world to deal with weenies and these new aggro decks being played. Thoughts? Ideas? Help?

Hey all! I've been a Legacy player throughout my Magic playing days, mostly because that's where casual my casual playing self was introduced to first. I have always had an interest in Standard but could never afford to play both Legacy and Standard. Well, I have put Legacy aside since the Portland area is pretty devoid of a good Legacy scene and feel this is the ripe time to jump in!

So, to get started I purchased a booster case of the Scars of Mirrodin block, ie 2 NPH, 2 MBS, and 2 SOM. I also am buying a box of Magic 2012 when it's released. I figured this would basically give me the opportunity to play or build anything and the cards won't be rotated out soon.

Now, I love playing control but don't have problems playing anything. I love blue and green so hopefully there is some nice UGx deck out there that will be around after the rotation? Any ideas?
