Burn seems to be running amuck for now. We could probably go back to a 4-3 split on ThoptorSword Combo to increase chances of drawing the combo naturally. That lets the whirs grab bullets in a pinch against other combo decks. Some form of removal in the main seems necessary as well. Creature decks like burn and humans are popular aga8n according to MTGgoldfish. Also saw a couple lists running Mox Amber along side Emery. Not a bad idea as long as she's a 3-4 of. Thoughts?
Shazaam!! Oko ruined the deck for me anyway and i put it down as soon as he became a 4 of and I could barely recognize the deck anymore. The loss of Opal really sucks but there was a time when we operated with only two main and used the other rocks. Back to the drawing board? Back to being a fringe deck? Calling all Tezzerators!!
Dodged the bullet again! Woo! Yeah, I think i'm gonna have to bite the bullet on some Oko's. It does way more than the 2x Galvanic Blasts in the list. Mo Fo's at like $75 right now. Yikes. I still don't have scalding tarns either but don't have any problem with mana as of yet.
So the next ban list got bumped to the 21th of this month to deal with the sh!t show that is Standard.
What are the chances of an Opal ban to go with that in light of all these artifact combo decks that are popping up?
Watching the SCG Open right now and there's a Kethis Combo on stream using grinding station and the Opal/Bauble package as well to power out Kethis and do combo stuff. I'd say we still need more data before they hit Opal but if not now, how soon would y'all say it gets hit, if at all?
Also, what is our(Whirza) move should it get banned?
Roger that. I'm sticking with Whirza as well. The PO list doesn't really interest me. Do you think the meta will have enough combo decks to warrant Unmoored Ego's return to the SB? Was thinking of jamming two copies back in. I can see Chalice if the Void's stock going up a bit as well. Not for Whirza in particular but for other decks.
Urza...Outcome?! Some lists have been running Paradoxical Outcome over Whirs. looks like they've fit Emry, Lurker of the Loch into the list now. No Ascendancy?!? Mono U?! What do y'all think?
Harlan looks to be on a very similar Whirza list from SCG Dallas. Hope his team takes it so i don't have to change my list! LMAO! No Witching Well! My foils are on the way.
Looking forward to seeing how much further the deck list evolves. Some players still main and side Teferi, Time Raveler, Spine of Ish Sah, or in my case Ghirapur Aether Grid. Graveyard hate is up in the air i think as well. Dredge won the classic so we'll have to wait and see how that deck does moving forward. I still do not have Scalding Tarn and still do not plan on taking the plunge anytime soon. That's a dang car payment right at their current price. Making do with what i have. it gets a little wonky at times but the sheer fun of the deck more than makes up for it. My Astrolabes are just a little bit more important than those with full playsets of Tarn's!
4-Colour Whirza takes down the first post ban SCG Open! List looks solid. Meta looked healthy. Think there's gonna be a lot of people hopping on the Whirza bandwagon? What's the approach to the mirror match?
A quick question. Do you guys play this deck online or irl? Because when I play it online, ppl tend to let me keep making thopter. Yester I spend 17 min on making thopters. so I could cast spells with urza. So I pretty much lost the MU because of it.
Is there a way to get around that?
From what i seen, if your opponent doesn't scoop to the combo, just make enough thopters to swing for lethal and pass the turn. There's not much you can do if you need to get to a certain spell in your deck with Urza via the combo. People are people, the clock is a wincon sometimes!
So what about the inclusion of counter spells now that we're even more of a combo deck and spending less effort trying to hide behind a bridge? Do we just have to wait and see where the meta goes? I'm expecting upticks in creature decks and a return to tron, which is always fun.
I would also love to get a dialog going on the mirror match. we didn't talked about it much back in the Tez days being as the chances of running into the deck were slim but plenty of players are picking up the Urza list. Who's had experience so far?
I also gotta say i'm gonna feel naked without any Abrupt Decay action in the side board as well but i'm an old dog who's gotta accept the new tricks!
