Friece Diety posted a message on [Primer] MUD (AKA: Forgemaster & Metalworker)So I have been playing MUD for a bit over a year and have had some great games and a good time. I thought I would share my list that got me 17th at SCG Minneapolis two weeks ago (been busy and finally got time to do this )Posted in: Combo
Notes I have about the list
While I was refining this list I was trying to make every card powerful enough so that the opponent would have to continuously answer them (weather by swords, counters or discard). One thing I will change next time I run this is to change one of the Steel Hellkite to a Myr Battlesphere to have more of an out to Liliana decks.
The ratchet bombs main were to combat the tempo decks that were around my local meta, so they could also be switched out for something else.
The 2/2 split with wurmcoil and b-skull was that b-skull does what I want Wurmcoil to do 90% of the time and at 1 less mana. I found that you get to 6 mana maybe 85-90% of games I played. and 5 mana nearly 95% with 4 being almost 100. In those 10-15 % of games if the 6 cost card in my hand was 5 I wouldn't have lost those that I did (or at least put up more of a fight). So I am a fan of trying to lower the overall curve of this deck.
Now for the tournament report
Round 1 vs Merfolk
Game 1 got a wurmcoil and two welders and we quickly went to game 2
Game 2 I had a questionable keep but as he landed a turn 3 back to basics I had nothing.
Game 3 Much better grip of cards but he had wasteland turns 2 and 3 and I could never get anything going
Record 0-1
Round 2 vs Aggro loam
Game 1 I had to struggle against his Maze of Ith but I eventually found a wasteland and got there.
Game 2 I had the wasteland ready this time and got there.
Record 1-1
Round 3 vs Miracles
Game 1 Lost (don't remember the key plays. . . it does what miracles does)
Game 2 I got the blightsteel kill at some point (Don't remember the details :/ )
Game 3 I got the turn 4ish Sundering titan out and nuked his tundras and after swinging him down to 5 he was forced to terminus the final blow which left him with only one top in play and i had 9ish mana. . . got there with two metalworkers for the final points of damage.
Record 2-1
Round 4 vs Bug Tempo
Game 1 ended with me only ever seeing him play cantrips and a goyf.
Game 2 he had the nuts of turn one blind fliped Delver and got there.
Game 3 I had a wurmcoil that got the game.
Record 3-1
Round 5 vs Jund
Game 1 He only ever played a swamp and with putting a chalice at one out I assumed he was on ANT or the like.
Game 2 lost to liliana and realized the 3 dead cards in my hand :/
Game 3 Liliana once again ripped me a new one the turn before Forgemaster was Active.
Record 3-2
Round 6 vs TES?
Game 1 Chalice at 1 on my turn after he cast brainstorm followed up with forgemaster turn 4 and the kill on turn 6 only ever saw blue fetches and an Underground.
Game 2 I had the stone cold nuts as he went turn 1 ponder I followed it with a Chalice on 1 and then by 2 lodestone golems. Match was over quick.
Record 4-2
Round 7 vs Maverick
Don't remember the specifics of this one either except I just drew what I needed at the right moments and He could never keep me down either of the two games.
Record 5-2
Round 8 vs Sneak and Show
Game 1 I got it with the blightsteel before he could go off.
Game 2 He was stuck on one land and a lotus petal that I named off of Revoker to keep him off of mana. Once my Lodestone hit play it was over.
Record 6-2
Round 9 vs Burn
Game 1 Chalice helped blank enough burn for me to get there in time.
Game 2 I got the turn 2 wurmcoil and he stumbled and missed the vortex enough for me to get in with one swing and seal the game from there.
Record 7-2
17th of 302
Questions and comments are welcome. And I apologize for not remembering every match in great detail either :/ -

Yep, Magic player's are totally rational. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Remember when Legacy got too expensive and WotC created Modern?
Maybe WotC is creating a new format because Modern got really expensive...

The Vampires...
Really, because their food supply is running low.
