Looks like the Cat God is named Oketra: Graceful Cat.

Also wondering if Ifnir from Archfiend of Ifnir is the black god or a powerful demon. We are already getting Razaketh, so I would guess the god...
edit: Ifnir could be a place as well

An invocation is the act of calling upon something or someone for assistance; i.e., praying to a god, summoning a familiar, etc. That said, a mix of creatures, instants, and sorceries seems right, with the odd enchantment.

Exactly. Pretty much any nonartifact nonplaneswalker is fair game.

Sufficiently godlike planeswalkers could be fair game too, Bolas getting a special version would be awesome and a great flavor fit. Ugin is equally godlike, but would be harder to justify flavorfully.

Embalm is very much like seance, you lose the ability to recur the creature but you do get a token out of it. Expect a functional reprint of Seance that will cost more to cast/use.

Exerted is going to cause lots of problems, trust me when its 11pm and your all tired your going to forgot not to keep them tapped. Heck even kids will forget the next turn and untap them.

I too can see this becoming a problem. I think the way I'll deal with keeping track is by "double tapping" an exerted creature and basically turn it upside down. Then when I untap my next turn I just give the exerted card the same quarter turn I give all my tapped cards and that will put it into a tapped position.

That's why we get the exert counter in the punch card. Problem solved.

Brick counters... Am I smelling some alternate wincon flavored as building a pyramid? It would be a huge missed opportunity if there wasn't one...

Wizards, every day for the past month and a half: "Oh man we've got SO MANY AMAZING THINGS to share with you on announcement day at the end of March, you're gonna love them! WE ARE MAKING SUCH A BIG DEAL OUT OF THIS. Just hang in there until March 31st!"

Wizards on March 24th: "We're delaying our announcement day by another three months. BUT JUST HANG IN THERE! You're gonna love it!"

    Stupid as hell.

Yeah, that sucks. They could just announce the next block and maybe some supplemental products on the 31st and keep all the extra stuff for the later date. More smaller announcements would keep the hype train running smoother.

This change now puts the Announcement Date suspiciously in line with Wizards' anticipated E3 attendance (June 14th-16th).

Maybe it is to build hype for a possible general public reveal of Next at E3?

E3? So Wizards have a new digital game coming or what?

    That's the Million Dollar Question.

Previously, Magic the Gathering was listed as a partipant. As of today, it isn't anymore.

Oooh, a stand-alone, not card-based game set in MTG world? It isn't that far-fetched, since they seem to be turning Magic into a franchise. Also, between MTGO and Duels, I think there is little room for another game copying the paper version...

Don't suppose the Magic feature film might have secretly been in development?

The MTG movie is no secret, MaRo confirmed it several times on Blogatog. But the only thing he is willing to say is that it is being worked on.

Wondering if the gods will have the "aftermath" mechanic from Dusk, possibly also recurring themselves with the second mode (if god would be exiled by aftermath, return it to the battlefield instead). On one hand, it would showcase the mechanic on iconic cards. On the other hand, the awesome art would have to be squeezed in that smaller format...

I highly doubt it; seems like aftermath is instants/sorceries only.

The yard part yes, the normal part can be anything. It can be a creature, and after it dies the other half can be cast as an instant/sorcery from the yard.

So, according to this piece of awesomeness, Bolas is not one of the five gods (they are all humanoid with animal heads), so he is probably above them.

With the gods looking human, something tells me they're going to be Planeswalkers styled as gods. The only issue with that might be color balance reasons, but if they're Tri-colored walkers, then I don't think that would be an issue for Standard balance.

If that's true, I wonder how are they going to justify flavorwise for example a Bant-colored walker working for Bolas...

Just gonna leave this here, from Blogatog:
    July:
magicthegather asked: 0retty sure I know the answer already. Will there or could there be a common planswalker? With the popularity of pauper rising I don't know if it's something that you all discussed.

Not only won’t you see Planeswalkers at common, you won’t see them at uncommon or rare either. They are a mythic rare thing.

Yes, they were rare before mythic rare existed as a rarity

    October:
swefox97 asked: Is it possible for a new planeswalker to be printed in a common or uncommon rarity?

Possible but not probable. Planeswalkers are a very rare thing.

Could be a mistake on MaRo's part, but could also support the already stated speculation about weak, generic planeswalkers serving as Bolas' soldiers.

Satan created and controls the Multiverse

And the 5 colors form a pentagram... Holy crap, we have all been unwittingly worshiping Satan the whole time! Spread the truth before it is too late!

Jace is himself an illusion created by Nicol Bolas to cause division within the MTG community to distract us from Bolas' plans

actually now that I'm thinking about it, what if Bolas did create original phyrexia? then it got sort of co-opted by Yawgmoth, but Bolas was like, "okay, let's see where he takes this," and then he sent Tezz as a spy to New Phyrexia to keep tabs on their development, and maybe they are so different from OG Phyrexia that they won't take orders from him if he tries to impose his will

I have my personal crackpot theory about Phyrexia, although it will probably be easily debunked as well: New Phyrexia descends into a devastating war among the faction, making it a desolate hellscape in the end. Karn, seeing what happenet to his plane, casts a desperate spell to rewind time on the plane and start anew. However, he loses control of the spell, instead hurling the whole plane thousands years into the past. Soon after, Yawgmoth finds the plane and starts rebuilding it as his own...
