Let me say that I consider myself a hard control player, so my favourites deck's are cruel control (Grixis with ultimatum) and the Utron....Enough introduction.
Lately I've been testing this list (with very good results) and really want to know what you think about it...
¿What's the new stuff? well metallurgic summonings gives me a new air for this deck I feel that casting a condescend or a repeal with this machine on board it's really sweet
Please check the list, test it if you like (Cockatrice works for me now) and let me know what you think!
You're right, I'm gonna try with the collective brutality.
My burn experience says that if you get 2 cheap counter on the opening hand, 1 removal and something like AV or batter you can win, otherwise it's a very difficult match.
I would like to ask you guys what's your formula against the f"#$%&g TRON, Seriously i can't defeat that deck....
I really need a life increaser on early turns for Burn decks (lot of them on the meta here).
I also tried Kalitas, but it's just a personal choice for the batterskull it "feels" better and works great against an early moon if not stopped on time.
Hey pals, I hope you're having fun with the ultimatum on your local tournaments (I always does). Just wanna share my actual list with you and maybe we can share some ideas.
My main difference it's the PW as you can see, it's been working fine for me, I use the discard ability if the game its controlled (ulti it's really powerful) and tutor when in a hurry.
Obviously the Goblin Dark-Dwellers are used for the ancestral vision, anger of the gods or Kolaghan's Command mainly.
So guys, nice to see new activity around here...
Can you help me with this list?
I'm actually using it, and got a 10th place on a 28 player PPTQ (touching the top 8), with a 3-2 final result. (lost against ad-nauseam and tezzeret/thopter combo).
REGARDS!
Sure, I'm gonna try to make my best remembering (I'm relatively new, so it's a double effort to analyze my matches and play...LOL)
1- AFFINITY:
1st game, ULTIMATUM wins: This was a complex opening, I don't know my opponents deck so I try to keep with a versatile hand. He tried to win by poison, but Kolaghan's Command make a so much good work. Special thanks to bolt and snapy mage that keep the Inkmoth Nexus away after a 9 poison match. The win condition? Batterskull attached to snapy.
2nd game, for AFFINITY: In this match I remember that Vandalblast wasn't on my SB, so I just insert staticaster, rakdos charm and anger removing one ultimatum, one cryptic and rise/fall.
Not much to say, bad opening hand (no kolaghan's, no electro) 3 lands and a mulligan to 5 give my opponent card advantage, the Master of Etherium was my nightmare.
3rd game, AFFINITY beats me: better initial hand for ultimatum, but a turn 1 Ensoul Artifact to a Darksteel Citadel start the 4 turn countdown... so GG
2:UWR CONTROL
1st game: My opponent start, both players mull to 6, he was a "aggro guy" trying to learn control, so the match goes pretty "easy" for me. He play a lot of "face damage" EOT, that give me the big picture of his technique, after 5 turns my card advantage forced me to discard and he with a 3 cards hand (no counter) can't fight against a Rise // Fall played on my next turn and boom! Batterskull again make my day.
2nd game: Basically the same "mistakes" of my opponent, but this time dispel and negate give me the change to play the cruel ultimatum on 8th turn and GG.
3:BW HUMANS
This was a really hard match, the technique of my opponent consist on playing lot of humans and with Athreos, God of Passage keep them always on his hand, besides his Cartel Aristocrat and Bloodsoaked Champion, make my removal technique less effective. So after a long 1st match, ultimatum beats him and 2nd match it's a time draw.
4: My favorite victory of the night JUND.
This match was against a JUND-guy. He really know his deck, he know the modern archetype and he know how to play against control.
1st game: Nice opening hand against him: 1 bolt, 2 terminate, 3 lands, 1 cryptic. Well I start to kill every thing that comes into play, and everyone of my draws was pure gold, so I try to make my best on controlling the table and don't let Liliana of the Veil comes into play. Nice smooth victory for the ultimatum.
2nd game: SB the Wurmcoil Engine, 1 Spellskite and Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver. Well this game basically make a 180 degrees turn around the turn 5, when my opponent only with a Liliana of the Veil on board and 2 Raging Ravine decides to give a -2 to lili to kill my Batterskull germ, at that point on my hand was a bolt that kills the attacking ravine, after that was a just a matter of time to the batter to kill lili and give me the life advantage, finally ultimatum resolves and GG
I want to share my deck list that I use yesterday on a local tournament.
4 rounds, only lost against affinity...
1- Affinity 1-2
2- UWR control 2-0
3- BW Humans 2-1
4- JUND 2-0
I hope you like it and any comments please feel free to post it!
Did you guys already think about the new cards for ultimatum decks adding some of SOI?
I think that we can go one step ahead making some lists with that new block.
Hi there Ultimatum fellowship!
I just want to share my actual deck list. It runs nicely on Cockatrice and casual tournaments, not tested yet on a big event.
I'm a big fan of the HARD-CONTROL (untap-draw-go), that's the reason why so much draw cards.
