In my opinion this is easily among the top 5 most broken cards available at uncommon. I think the people over at the rare cube forum aren't giving it enough credit, imo it's far better than cards like Goblin Rabblemaster, Hanweir Garrison or similar Vintage cube 3 cmc token makers.

Haven't had the chance to play it since I added it. An opponent played it no T3 with fodder one game, I had a Bolt to kill it before combat. But if I haven't had the removal, it would pretty much be GG at that point. I'll be closely looking at it to see if it becomes a problem or not. Since rakdos-sacrifice is one of my most supported archetypes, I'll leave it to see if it works.

I have a question on a similar topic. I've reviewed my black section this week, and realized that, although I'm supporting sacrifice synergies, I have few black token or fodder makers in low CMCs (1-3). What black fodder makers do you guys run in your Cubes?
At higher mana costs I ran Marsh Flitter. I'm stacked in Sac outlets but I'm lacking sac fodder.

Maybe I'm an old bitter-man already, but Dungeon, Initiative and (now) Tempted by the Ring, seem horrible to me in a Cube environment. Having 3 unique cards to describe a mechanic seems so bad.

Its also a hoooooorrrible experience for non-experienced drafters; when they see a pack and the card actually doesn't explain itself. I'm off of those mechanics for now, and I don't think I'll be adding any LotR cards with them. I did include Monarchy in my last Cube update, but because that is a mechanic that my playgroup is familiar with (we play EDH).

I'm expecting good c/ummons without it, though. Reprive seems good. I'll be ordering a box to draft with my friends and see what its like.

    ///

I'll take this chance for some self-advertising..., I'm a die-hard fan of the Tolkien's legendarium and I'm also an big fan of creating my own Custom Cubes and sets. My first Custom Cube was a Lord of the Rings Cube (its pretty bad, it was my first experience) and I'm eager to see what WotC's take was in comparison to mine when designing cards.
If you are curious, I've done:

    - Lord of the Rings Custom Cube (480 cards)

    - The Plane of Yauguru (Custom Cube)(540 cards) - made up story and map by me (here's the map: https://inkarnate.com/maps/edit/5329347/ )

    - Attack on Titan (Anime): Custom Set (288 cards) - This was sent to print (4 commons, 3 uncommons, 2 rares & 1 mythic of each card) to be played as a normal Set, by making individual packs (11C, 3UC, 1R or 1 MR). It's actually pretty good, I'm really proud of it. We've actually played it in Montevideo's LGS with completely unknowns and they been fascinated by the flavour, lore details and designs.

I haven't played with my cube in years

Frown This is sad to hear n00b.

    This got me thinking....

How many times a month do you guys Cube with your playgroup? We tend to play *a lot* of MTG, but we have skewed towards Commander because of the amount of players we are. I really don't feel like drafting with 5 or less people. So we usually gather and play multiplayer, but once in a Blue Moon, we get to 6-7 players and draft C/Ube (or other of my custom made Sets/cubes). So, what ends up happening in the end is that we play C/Ube around 1 once every three months or so. It's really sad, specially when Cube is my favorite format and my C/Ube is my favorite MtG.

Aditionally to all of this, the increase in power creep (supplemental sets designed for eternal formats with powerful C&Ummons) + the amount of set output by WotC, have made me change cards in my C/Ube much faster. Cards which I don't even have the time to test before becoming old themselves. It's funny how some new cards sometimes get added, and instantly replaced by better cards in the next set. (Example from this previous thread: Rumor Gatherer vs Mentor of the Meek). I think that the solution here is not to be constantly updating it, but to do it by the end of the year with backup from Calibretto's Peasant Average Cube.

Another thing that I wanted to know from you guys: Here at MTGS we are very enfranchised Cubers, and we really understand the intricacies of Cubing and its theorycrafting, etc etc. That is not really the case for most of my playgroup friends. They have basic knowledge of what is good or what not, and we are constantly "discussing" wether some cards should be added or not to the Cube. The final decision is mine, of course, but I do cave into some of their recomendations. Especially because that would be more fun for them and they'll enjoy seeing their pet cards here and there. (For example: I made the decision to cut one multicolor card from the Guild Slots in my 540 Cube, but my playgroup was against it. I argumented that having less multicolor slots would make for a more interesting and less "on-rails" draft experience, but they didn't care as much. I ended up cutting the cards anyways, but that interaction left me Pondering.

    In summary:
    1) How often do you play your C/Ube with your playgroup? And how many drafters do you tend to play with?
    2) How often should I update my Cube? Is playin once every three months enough information to know wether a card is performing or not?
    3) How enfranchised are your players with Cube Theory and structure? Do you get in arguments if wether certain cards or "stuff" should be included?

I think I'll be skipping this set for peasant cube.

Same here. Nothing really stood out to me for my archetypes.
I don't really get this set, but that is another conversation.

Khenra Spellspear is completely nuts, right? It slots in any aggresive red deack, doesn't have to be spellslinger.

It's really impressive to look at a 2-drop RED 2/2 with SO much upside. But in this day and age there's nothing that can suprise me anymore.

Is it really that good, or am I missing something here? It looks amazing to me.

I remember when adding Deranged Whelp and feeling I was getting away with something, ha!

This little critter is amazing, no?

    - First of all, the text says "A GRAVEYARD", which suprised me. Its a combination of Dire Fleet Daredevil & Snapcaster Mage.

    - 3/1 flyer for 3 is not a bad floor.

    - Can be cast for 4 and efficiently flashback Fatal Push, Ponder, or even Reanimate.(Dimir is the reanimate color pair in my cube)

This feels like an autoinclude for me. What do you guys think?

    Holy s***,

I just now realize that in Spanish we use "platonic" somehow differently than people use it in English.

In spanish it means "A belief that love (or being loved by) someone is unreachable/unthinkable".

It's a pretty long drive for me :p

    I live in Montevideo, Uruguay.

I'd love to draft with you guys! It'll be a platonic desire for me, though.

If you do meet up and play, share some results and stories.

    Hello folks,

It is post-spoiler season, better known as the Nobody-checks-this-forum Season and I wanted to get some discussion flowing.

As a long time lurker of the forum who rarely posts, I'd like to open this thread to discuss how Nostalgia weighs in your decisions making to cut or add cards.

First of all, context! I discovered the Peasant Cube forum way back in 2015 when I started building, what I called in that moment, a "Budget Cube". I scanned through my old collection from 2001 (just a bunch of commons & uncommons from the Invasion-Mirrodin era) and decided to create a Cube out of them, because.. Hell.. I wasn't using them and they are neat cards that should be given play. After being consumed for over a month building spreadsheets, evaluating cards and thinking of archetypes, I finally finished it. And one of my primary rules was: Never cut those cards that give you that beautiful feeling of "I want to keep exploring this game". the bacchus Evaluate Everything thread was key in this discovery of the forum, and I've always thanked the community for making that thread. Its a pity that it is almost dead by now.

Nowadays, when I'm evaluating cards I tend to skew more on old cards than new cards when making a decision. Is this something that you take into consideration when evaluating cards? I see that people here in MTG Salvation are old time players and I suppose that many of you have this kind of feeling, or at least you "suffer" when you cut them. For newer players, I understand this is not an issue, sin

    Some examples:
    First-Sphere Gargantua vs. Phyrexian Gargantua
My train of thought: Pretty similar effect, the new one has more flexibility than the other, but I love old border and for such a small difference I won't make the swap.

    Flametongue Kavu vs. Flametongue Yearling
My train of thought: Pretty much the same said above.

    Shock vs Play with Fire
My train of thought: I'm never cutting Psycheatog Shock out of my Cube, never!

Cards I'll never cut that I consider "pet cards" of mine:
    Phyrexian Rager
    Avalanche Riders
    Careful Study
    Breath of Darigaaz
    Jilt
    Blastoderm
    River Boa

Please tell me what you think and if you have any exmaples of "uncuttable cards" due to their Nostalgia component, please share them!

    Hello all!

I wanted to start a discussion on Booster Tutor.

I recently cut it from my Peasant 540 Cube because it felt overpowered most of the times, and we decided that having only one silvered border card wasn't even that instersting at all. At first it was novelty, it was first picked from every pack most of the times and we had much fun looking at the booster the caster opened. Nevertheless, the novelty went away pretty fast and it started getting annoying; the whole process of opening a pack, looking at the cards, and deciding on what was the best option usually took a longer time than we liked. Also, the effect is pretty powerful and the person casting it usually took the game.

In the beginning, our rule zero was to maintain the chosen cards in the draft deck, but that was changed quickly when decks started getting obscene by round 3. We found out pretty easily that we had made a mistake with this rule, lol.

Being that I own a 540 card Cube and we usually play 6-player pods, there were generally many boosters to pick from, so that wasn't a problem. But, I do realize that for 360 Cubes that play in 8-player pods, the number of remaining boosters is a problem. Another negative point towards Booster Tutor.

What is the forum's general consensus on Booster Tutor?
What is your rule zero regarding if the cards stay or not in the deck?
Do you still run it in general, or have you guys cut it from your Cubes aswell?
