posted a message on Will Bolas be White/Black in Amonkhet?
I doubt he'll be white. I don't think he really have any concern or interest in the lives of the people he rules over, rather I find it all the more likely it's simply a personal power/self interest thing.

He doesn't rule for the good of THEM. He rules for the good of HIM.

    Islandwalk
Whenever a player shuffles his or her library, ~ gets +3/+3 and gains trample until end of turn.
Discard your hand: Shuffle your library.
    7/7

EDIT: I'm fairly certain that Chronogeddon would be worded as "Each player shuffles... they own into their library." I can't think of any cards that let you shuffle an opponents library yourself.

I just remembered the commanders in this are foil. I hope that means the oversized card is foil or something. PLEASE NO FOILS for the regular sized card Frown

Assuming nothing's changed since the announcement, there's going to be one oversized foil (the 4-color commander) and 4 regular sized foil commanders. The only question is, are they going to be the only versions of the commander in the box.
Yeah that's what I want to know. I really do not like foils at all. I hope there is a non-foil version as well, but suspect there may not be. I'd gladly trade the useless oversized foil for a regular sized non-foil version of the Commanders.

But why would you want Kynaios and Tiro to be any less fabulous than at all possible? (I kid, I kid.)

I don't think Heliod is actually a villain. Considering Xenagos becoming an illegitimate god and causing a lot of damage and suffering on Theros, Elspeth killing Daxos (which was Xenagos confusing her, but still), Ashiok attacking Iretis and messing with Ephara's dreams, Dack stealing a gauntlet and Kiora stealing Dekella, you really can't blame Heliod for killing planes walkers. Especially when his information about them likely comes from Phenax.

Yea. I don't see Heliod as a badguy(a Jerk sure but not evil. He is after all the white only god). Plus considering he doesn't know much about Planeswalkers, he might have thought Elspeth would try and either take his place or become another god which would cause chaos like Xenagos did. Keep in mind Xenagos caused chaos by simply becoming a nyxborn.

Not to mention when Kruphex saw glimpses of Nicol Bolas and realized how powerful the elder dragon is that caused him to be-afraid. Considering that Kruphex would have likely told Heliod about Nicol Bolas. It makes some sense that he might have killed Elspeth.

Moreover there is this fun line from the wiki: It is implied that Heliod's personality, like most of the gods', changes in accordance to mortal beliefs.

So perhaps Heliod changes following more encounters with Planeswalkers. Would like to see more of the postive aspects of both Zeus in the Myths as well as the color white in Magic shown with Heliod.

No, Heliod is definitely a villain and that is a good thing. White doesn't have many villains although it has as many negative aspects as the other colors (it is the color of Fascism and Totalitarism for example) and should not be seen as the "good" color. Heliod attacked Elspeth just because she had Purphoros sword (without asking questions) and then tried to use her as his champion when she was able to deflect his unprovoked attack. He constantly tries to put himself as the top god of Theros pantheon (when in reality Kruphix would be the closest to actually being it) and creates nearly as much conflict in doing so as Xenagos was able to do over the whole story. Kruphix definitely didn't tell anyone except his oracle of the multiversal dangers and Heliod killed Elspeth because he feared that with her having knowledge unaccessible to him she was somehow challenging his "rule" (if I remember correctly he even says that she was "too much like the Satyr" in his eyes, meaning she knows too much in his opinion). She helped him defeat Xenagos and for the simple fact that she had potential he didn't understand and without showing any kind of gratitude for her help Heliod stabbed her in the back. You can't get much more obviously villanous than that. White has enough good character, what it needs are villains like Heliod.

    Hear, hear.

It's a mistake for people to think that white=good, or that someone can't be evil/bad/villainous because they have a white color identity.

White values community (and order) above all else, and will absolutely oppress the f*** out of the individual to achieve that goal. More than that, there's nothing even saying that white cares about what is factually better for the community, only what white believes is better.

White is very much a "For your own good" color, and we've long since learned to be wary of that statement.

posted a message on Mothership spoilers 10/26 Ludevic, Kyanios and Tiro and more
Ludevic is such a fail. He should not have partner at all, he's a loner mad scientist who should be cloistered in his lab making carzy zombies! I really feel like the partner mechanic in general has been overlooked flavorfully. I get that it was a mechanical solution to four color decks, but the flavor just doesn't feel right. Why not make a Tibor card and a Lumina card, and give them both partner? Or for that matter why not make the gay kings two different cards with partner?! Lol amiright? There are enough characters in magic with a history of working together that they shouldn't be shoe-horning important loner characters onto these cards arbitrarily.

Magic creative likes to put couples together on a single card (See Anax and Cymede, the aforementioned Tibor and Lumia and Pia and Kiran Nalaar). Splitting them up, which it might have worked flavorfully, wouldn't have been in keeping with this trend and they probably wouldn't have wanted to risk earning flack for not presenting the first gay couple in Magic consistently with the others.

Wow, 1/1 for 4? I mean, multi-player format, lots of opponents potentially casting spells, but holy cow is she fragile and expensive.

EDIT: oh AND she's mythic? Would she have been broken as a 2/2?

Honestly, I feel like we need to see more of Ms. Kord, and the general aftermath of the Promised End.

    Yes.

    So very much yes.

We didn't get any closure as to the welfare or standing of the plane or its inhabitants at all.

You can't just leave us hanging like that Wizards! It's mean.

posted a message on Kaladesh General Discussion (Spoilers Allowed)
After playing the Kaledesh Campaign in Magic Duels I have begun to fear for Dovin Baan.
I just get this feeling that regardless of Tezzeret's success on the plane, he's going to experience a major fallout. This I contend based on a number of possible scenarios all ending poorly for him.

Scenario 1: Tezzaret succeeds and his success requires continued planar control of Kaledesh. In this Scenario, whether it's somehow bringing New Phyrexia or its corruption to the plane or somehow consolidating Bolas's influence there, the Consulate will lose its autonomy either by force or slow thralldom to Bolas. This scenario is unlikely I think and I only mention it being possible.

Scenario 2 and 3: Tezzeret Fails in his schemes or Succeeds but without requiring a continued presence on Kaledesh. Either way it seems likely in either case that the Planeswalker-assisted revolution wouid be successful. Dovin would have to flee his homeplane, likely following Tezzeret and more than likely becoming bested and dominated by Bolas.

Edit: I recognize however there are other possible outcomes but these to me seem most plausible and all spell bad things for our stuffy Bureaucratic Planeswalker. What do you guys think? Am I off? The only hope for him is to be forwarned or discover independently that Tezzeret means him and his plane nothing good.

I'm still holding out for Dovin realizing that Tezzeret is manipulating the Consul for his own personal gain uncaringly throwing Kaladesh into chaos in the process, and so turns against him.

That still leaves his and the Consul's standing with the renegades, Gatewatch and other bodies/organizations; and the resolution of the various conflicts in question, but at least he won't be in the position of having been "on Tezzeret's side" quite so much.

This gets all the more infuriating when it's coming right off the heels of Nissa's mass retocons.
Nissa did not have mass retcons. Nissa had some retcons, but not really any more than anyone else. Read this.

Honestly, I think Nissa's changes could easily have felt fluid and sensible if we had been there to see them not just be told/had them inferred to us.

I'd have loved to have been witness to Nissa growing as a character. Realizing that other races had their way of contributing. That cooperation was beneficial. That when it really came down to it, difference could be a GOOD thing. To have seen her accept others along side herself.

But we didn't get that. We got someone who essentially felt like a much different character from one appearance to the next.
