  • posted a message on Tamiyo EMN
First of all, there's nothing dictating that Tamiyo is strictly speaking, "mono blue" all we have is her original card, and her somewhat dismissive cold demeanor in the story to go off. There's nothing saying that she can't be two colours, like UX (personally, I'm hoping for a UR walker, but that's just me).

    The issue with Jace:

With the last core set, MTG Origins, Wizards decided to push the story of the five walkers presented in the set. The reason Jace wasn't in the BFZ block, was because he was getting his own card in SOI. We got Gideon in BFZ, Chandra and Nissa in OGW, Jace in SOI and we're getting the last origins walker in EMN, rounding out the 5 walkers and bringing them all into the story, kinda.

However, unless Tamiyo is going to Planeswalk to Kaladesh and be featured heavily in the next block (which I find highly unlikely) it would be very odd and a disappointment if she doesn't get a card here. Remember, Jace and Ugin were featured in the BFZ story, and they both had planeswalker cards represented in the block prior and after.

the TLDR summary: I think we'll be seeing a multicoloured Tamiyo, possibly something along the lines of UR or UB, since it's unlikely she will be going to Kaladesh.

Woah, woah guys, you're looking way too far into this. Firstly, theres four different posters for four different cards

Secondly, it's clear that the cryptoliths can spell the word Emra (check the picture below!)

    #EmrakulIsTheMoon2016 confirmed

But in all seriousness, I think we have all the evidence we need from the one poster, since it's supposed to be solved by your average joe who visited the game shop.

That, or we could see less basics printed, like there being two variations as opposed to the three. But I doubt it

She seems really weak for edh. Her first and second ability are good but her ult is not very impressive. For 8 loyalty, i expected something that would stick around. I would get one or two if they are under $5.

What are you talking about? Her + ability is a +2, you play her turn 4, you can ultimate her turn 6. She'd be borderline broken if she got any creature/artifact onto the battlefield and it stuck around.

Her +2 is also a "may" clause, so you can plus her the turn she comes in and save the discard for the following turn where you have madness up. She's fairly decent.

How is she weak for EDH? She card filters and is Artifact and Enchantment removal. Some of the best things in the format due to the singleton aspect of the deck, and the number of artifacts and enchantments that run around in the format. Her -2 exiles an enchantment, hitting the Theros gods, she also has the added benefit in EDH to fetch any creature in your deck, albeit a huge fatty for one turn or part of your combo piece, saying she's weak for EDH is like saying Jace is weak for Standard.

And your point is? He was the central character for RTR block, Elspeth was the central character for the Theros block, Sarkhan was the central character for the Tarkir block, these characters help tell the story and sell the sets. Yeah he was one of four central characters last block and will be one of the central characters this block. I doubt we'll see him again in the next block.

For every format warping version of Jace, there is a mediocre at best Jace, such as Jace, the Living Guildpact, but he's not the only borderline broken planeswalker, take a look at Liliana of the Veil, Dack Fayden and Karn Liberated.

Keep in mind that Jace is just one out of the origin five that Wizards are pushing to be representative of their game.

Jace hasn't been in a block since RTR. Can we please stop being childish about this stuff?

But he's had 2 new cards since then. It's not like Jace hasn't been all over Magic non-stop.

So have Chandra, Gideon, Nissa, and Sarhkan...

Edit: Left off Kiora and Ajani...

Jace is the poster boy of almost every block. He's always there. Chandra, Gideon and Nissa are always afterthoughts compared to Jace and Sarkhan hadn't been seen since the last Zendikar block before popping back up in Khans with 2(lame) new cards.

I just want to defend Chandra. The last time we got a Chandra card in the main story line (excluding Origins) Was literally the last Zendikar block. She's been the generic red planes walker to be inserted into the core sets, sets that were designed to get new people into Magic, not actually impacting the story in anyway shape or form, I'm happy to see her appearance in Oath of the Gatewatch as we haven't seen her in the story in quite a while.

I just want to point out that the reason we've seen so much of Jace is simply down to core sets, you know those things that have been removed? That is the only reason, and hey Wizards is showing some constraint, Jace was all over the Battle for Zendikar block but we didn't see a card there, so let's be grateful for that.

    Shadows over Innistrad

Jace (guaranteed in the set): We're going to get a Jace card, without a doubt. He's the poster child and will literally sell the set, because of how popular of a character he is. I'm hoping we see some divergence in his colours, like maybe a UB or a UR Jace would open up the character a bit and allow for some depth, which is something the goody two shoes doesn't seem to have. I swear his story is always the same. Theres a puzzle, I can't solve it, I solved it, rinse and repeat (just look at RTR block and BFZ block).

Sorin (guaranteed in the set): The last two iterations of Sorin have been fairly similar, and I doubt we'll get a mono black Sorin due to Liliana being the poster girl for Eldritch Moon. I don't want to see another WB Sorin, at least for a little while. Maybe something like a BR Sorin would be really cool! It will allow him to do differing abilities and it would make sense story wise. The vampires on Innistrad are predominantly BR, that plus the fact that Nahiri has come to his plane, destroyed Markov Manor and has killed the majority of his family (brood? swarm? I dunno what you call a collection of vampires) that plus what's happening with his plane would be more than enough to drive anyone mad. Also, he looks really angry in his booster pack art.

Arlinn (guaranteed in the set): A lot of people are assuming Arlinn Kord will be RG, based on the fact that she's a werewolf, both her backstory and the last Uncharted Realms doesn't support that claim. In my opinion she will more than likely be WG. Why? Because her story supports it, she saves two hunters from a demonic presence and warns them to leave, these hunters have killed other werewolves and if she was acting on instinct (like a red mage would) she would have killed them, but she shows to have some sense of control, something more aligned with white. Granted I may be wrong XD
    __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    Eldritch Moon

Liliana (guaranteed in the set): We'll more than likely see a mono black Liliana, as to what significance she has story wise? I don't know. It feels odd that she's even here and has taken centre stage, as so far she has no impact on the story and I feel like she's pushing other planeswalkers from getting cards (i.e. Nahiri/Tamiyo/Tibalt) But, she's the poster girl so it's pretty much guaranteed.

Nahiri (possibly in the set): I think everyone is in agreement, that if we see Nahiri she'll more than likely be WR, story wise she's pissed off, and has even been featured on red spells. Though we may not see her at all, which confuses me as she would be the big bad of the set. Granted this is based on if Wizards are following their rule of 5 walkers per block, if we see 6 walkers I feel Nahiri is a serious contender.

Tamiyo (possibly in the set): The fangirl inside of me wants to see Tamiyo again, she's a big part of the story, considering her first appearance the last time we were in Innistrad was her investigating the moon, and now Jace is going around picking up her blue's clues. So it's likely that we'll see another copy of her, but if Jace is mono blue, and we do see a Tamiyo she'll be forced into a secondary colour. She will more than likely be WU, though I would really like to see her be UR, maybe her studying the moon has driven her insane? I don't know. I wouldn't be able to deal with a UR Tamiyo, my favourite planeswalker in my favourite colours? Yes please ;u; Just food for thought.

Tibalt (possibly in the set): I'll be honest with you, I don't think we'll see Tibalt this set, I mean he may have a pressence in the story, such as Ugin and Jace in BFZ block. But I don't think there is enough room for his card. It's a shame, I know, I was hoping Tibalt would go for a round 2 with Sorin, but alas design limitations and balancing ruins this dream :'(

Tell me what you guys think ^^

'I'm a bit angry' isn't enough reason for a colour change. Sorin mostly likely WB or mono B, and with lilli in the same block mono B already likely taken. Making him WB gives a full set of colours for the set (RG Arlin, U Jace, WB Sorin).

Well, it certainly was enough for Ajani, and seeing your family and house being completely destroyed and that your home plane is once again chaos, is more than enough reason to be angry, not just a bit.

    Hello!

Below are two playmatts that I've designed and had printed. The blue one was designed for a friend who really liked it and ordered one, I was impressed with how it came out and promptly spent 5-6 hours and £29 to have the pleasure of owning one for myself! Smile

I really dig the art style on these. The Chandra is especially cute. Good choice of quotes in the bubbles there.

Ah, thank you very much! I've done other planes walkers in a similar style, they're on my deviant art if you're interested! ^^

Hello! I'm Spark! I guess I'm supposed to say a bit about myself here in order to get to know people on the forum, huh?

I'm not sure what to say, I guess I'll talk about the type of player I am, what formats I play and the types of decks! Thats a good start, right?

Standard: I was introduced to standard like many people were I suppose, but it's seen better days and I find the format quite stale at the moment! I hope shadows
over Innistrad can do something to fix that, but I've been playing it regardless and I've had a lot of fun with UR Prowess, Stormchaser mage works wonders

Commander: Since moving to a new location and starting University, Commander/EDH has become my main format! I adore it! I currently have 4 decks and I'm making another! I need to stop :')

UW Hanna, Ship's Navigator Pillowfort deck
    RWB Zurgo Helmsmasher Rushdown deck
UR Jori En, Ruin Diver cantrip.deck I made it for fun, not a lot of win conditions but ah well XD
-Insert new colourless symbol here - Kozilek, the Great Distortion I made it as a bit of a challenge to see what you can do with the limitations set by having no colours, but it's basically the modern eldrazi deck with a lot of janky high CMC cards

and in the works I have....

R Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician because goblins <3

Thats it for the formats and decks that I play, guess it's time to talk about what I'm like as a player. I'm a red mage at heart who dabbles in the dark arts of blue,
with an affinity for artifacts (sorry xD). I'm the guy who's playing red deck wins every standard season, but I get bored of my deck rather often and it's back to the drawing board. I'm a collector of sorts, I really enjoy the story of magic and like planeswalkers so about two years ago I decided to collect a copy of every planeswalker! And as of origins, I've been up to date, just needing to pick up one or two every new set! At the current moment in time the collection is complete, though I still end up trading for additional copies, it's becoming a habit heh.

I'm studying graphics design and I like to mess around with digital art, and because of that I've ended up doing some fan art pieces of some planeswalkers which can be found here if you're curious Smile

I'm on the forums not only to speculate and discuss cards, but I'm hoping to make some good friends! So i'll leave my Skype username below, feel free to add me! and if you don't have skype and want to get in touch, please feel free to send me a private message, I'll be happy to respond!

Thanks a lot for reading this Smile

That art clearly is not red enough in my opinion.

Recently a card's color and its artwork colors always match. Here, it would need the entire font to be red for him to be believable at BR. Not to mention he is not the one supposed to go mad, Nahiri is.

Also, since the disappointment of BfZ Kiora not being a true monoU merfolk planeswalker, I have lost faith in wizards trying to make planeswalker trully change.

Eh, I guess? I dunno it sort of looks like theres red light being shone on him, his eyes in particular and facial expression. But yeah Nahiri has gone mad and has torn up Markov manor, but it'd be weird if he didn't get angry because of it right?

Also, about Kiora she's always going to be blue/green due to her character, she's too hotheaded for her to be mono blue.

Yea, thats right. Rakdos Sorin would be a welcome Change. Especially after Sorin 2 & 3 are too similiar. i consider Sorin 3 a Fail anyway.
& Rakdos Sorin would allow more design-space. i approve d:)
The art on the booster pack is not Rakdos at all though.
I just think new Sorin needs to not cost 4. Make him 2,3,5,6,7,8,9,10 CMC whatever just not 4 not freakin' 2WB. Last iteration saw play in Modern...That's good enough! Stop right there.

The art on the booster pack is one of the main reasons why I think a BR Sorin is plausible. Sorin looks pissed off and not calm and collected like he normally is. He looks angry at what's happened to Innistrad and in particular Markov Manor.

Eh, theres no guarantee on their colours just yet so don't worry! It wouldn't make sense based on Arlinn's background for her to be red. And theres no guarantee that Sorin will be WB he could easily be BR like the rest of the vampires on Innistrad
