Banewhip Punisher is good early game for X/1 merfolk, and mid/lategame as removal.
it also helps for Journey to Eternity, so even if It is not broken, but we should give it a chance

The goal of this deck is to enable journey before you hit your 6th land and drop noxius gearhulk. hostage traker doesn't seem impressive, and I wonder if gifted aetherborn may be better, especialy coz we need time early game, and it gives you a lot ^^

and you are right about Heroic Intervention . you MUST get it in your SB.
Heroic Intervention on t5 fumigate=GAME, especially for GPG and approach, which to be bad match up.
Another opt may be keeping 23land and remove 4 attune for getting more empty slots, coz longtusk cub is good enough for beeing the only energy card. (and it will hardly stay on BAttlefield more than 1 turn ^^ )
I am testing this pack since a couple of days, and I wonder if Scrapheap Scrounger is better than Deathgorge Scavenger SB, for 2 reasons : UB control and ramunap.
UB control:
You get some recursive crea which can come back after essence scatter attack and empty your graveyard.
that seems good when The Scarab God is in
Ramunap
the second reason is that Deathgorge Scavengeris not so good vs monored.
I prefer Cartouche of Ambitioncoz it kills a crea, weaks hazoret the fervent , and seems fantastic on walking ballista, or any other creat with 3 basis thougness
by playing this deck, I got feeling the challenge is to deal with f*****g glorybringer , coz don't have any removal, or maybe just 2 Vraska's ContemptSB...
but the more I play this deck, the more I think you don't really have bad matchup, but don't have good either.. all are close and that's the reason why your side tech should be perfect.
but you should make
+1 Nissa => -1 liliana
+1 never // return => -1 grasp of darkness
Because enabling Bunto is hard with few creatures, and you don't want sac god.
if you don't kill Gearhulk eot he cast it, consider you loose ^^
so you must use artifact removal when he is all taped... or kill him before he cast it...
if you really want to put a clock, you should play burn spell during your turn for blast your opponent, and pump your drake.
I am not fan of Cryptic Serpent and Bedlam reveler because they are almost midrange card. Stormchaser Mage seems really better with prowess, and maybe thing in ice for another clock, and ensure a good t2
The list from Saheen Soorani goes really too slow...
I tested a lot last week Vs many Metagamed deck, and I always lost because lack of speed...
You can't Run all aggro deck, can't run GB, Machine gun, spirit,etc...
So for now this list will stay uncompetitive as long as you we won t be able to win time - -"
The first one allows Life, chump and draw, and ca come back with Liliana, the last hope. It also die (and draw) on DDS, which is quite synergic.
At least it enable the 3damage on unlicensed desintegration
This card is really a must have in thos pacK,and can save your life VS machinegun
Ofcourse, if you play FF, you must play some unlicensed desintegration.
I will try a similar list for FNM tomorrow, but I will switch hapatra and 1 mox for 2 heart of kiran.
with 6 walkers, the value seems good enough.

Dusk Legion Zealot
champion of wits or
Glint-Sleeve Siphoner
and 4 Banewhip Punisher for enable [card]Journey to Eternity[/card, but i think about switching with [card]Yahenni, Undying Partisan[/card

if journey to eternity goes in, should we replace Demon of Dark Schemes by Razaketh, the Foulblooded

Natural State seems better than Appetite for the Unnatural because you want most of the target are 3CCM. only Cast out is 4ccm
I also wonder if Serment de Nissa could be MD

Have you ever considered playing abzan token with some other card?
I mean something like
Throne of the God-Pharaoh + Aethersphere Harvester
for tapping all your token for a big smash with throne
OR
a lot of token with discard + embalm
ie : Call the Bloodline + Honored Hydra or Angel of Sanctions woow 2 6/6 trample for 4ccm
or Noose Constrictor
please also consider those following card for improve or make a new deal with abzan token by giving 2 for 1 or 3 for 1

My solution is too add some filigree familiar, and replace som grasp of darkness by unlicensed desintegration

In some way this card is better than Grasp of darkness because can it kill Mindwrack Demon, Sylvan Advocate Ulvenwald Hydra, Ishkanah, Grafwidow while Grasp of D will be a dead card...and letting you only Ruinous path for avoid dieing
and 3CCM, so can come back on GDD.
Il also put 4 Harnessed Lightning quite better for instant kill for 2CCm and provides us some energie
