RUG Scapeshift and Control player here! Thinking about trading pieces my Naya Burn deck for a much more enjoyable deck.
You think a natural control/combo player will enjoy Storm? I know some other combo decks can get very repetitive, due to the same solitar games(ad nauseum) So, I was wondering if any of you believe this a deck where you would get bored of it after a while or if it always stays fresh and fun while comboing off?
Thank you very much!
I haven't seen this topic anywhere on the internet, yet, but since the Eldrazi variant decks are getting a much needed nerf, I thought it would be interesting to hear everyone's thoughts on what's to come after April 1st.
So, what is everyone's predictions for the modern metagame after the Eldrazi gets a couple cards banned? What will rise up to tier 1 and 2 decks? What will fall from the top? And what specific cards will be seen a lot more?
We haven't really seen what modern's metagame would look like after Twin/Bloom's ban, and now Eldrazi will probably be a tier 2 deck at worst.
I've made a tough decision tonight and ended up dismantling my favorite type of deck, Esper Control. It was a variant of the Esper Draw-Go, and I sadly decided to go with my traditional Naya Burn deck.
I absolutely love my Esper deck, but the problem was at FNM, I'd go to time every match, every week and by the time Top 8 came around, I was mentally drained.
I'm a control player at heart, and feel more comfortable with my Esper over my Naya, but the Naya is so much faster, less tiring and has a good match up against most decks. That, and it looks like pure control in modern won't be getting much love from WotC, unfortunately.
So, with all my pieces from the Esper deck, should I build a second Modern deck? If so, now or later? And which deck would you recommend a control player? Don't say Tron - It's not control. I was possibly thinking RUG Scapeshift? Win by turn 7-8 instead of.. 15-20+
I honestly don't know what to do, and I wanted to ask here to get a clear goal before trading away cards I'll regret later. Again.
Thank you everyone!
There are several options for you, but first you may need to realize that you prefer tap-out control over draw-go. It's more proactive and much less draining. With that out of the way, there are several tap-out options. Straight UW Control is the most competitive, but Titan Control is an absolute blast to play. I'm pretty sure there are tapout versions of Esper as well, although I'm also pretty sure they are really bad. UWR is also making a comeback, and it's a pretty good deck.
Thank you very much for your reply! Yeah, I'm realizing that I do prefer tap-out, more things to do and gets the job done faster for tournaments. I was actually looking at U/W Control, and I have most of the pieces already and can definitely find the rest of the cards. I'm honestly leaning towards that, Scapeshift, UWR and Blue Moon(But the last two are very pricey). You are talking about the UW Titan one, though, right? I haven't looked into it, yet.

If you tune up your removal spells, a creatureless R/W planeswalker control deck could do very well.
Yeah, you're right. The green was kinda just put in there because of my personal liking for Naya. I cut green out completely and added the ones you recommended that were rotation proof.
I think Linvala, the Preserver would be a good addition to a RW 'walker-centered control shell.
I actually tried really hard to fit her in, since she does fit the theme really well. But having too may 6 drops with chandra was a tough decision. I'll try to make use of her if i can though
Hello, everyone!
This is my own home brew for Standard, which is rotation proof. I tried to make it as pure control as possible, making my only creature:
Omnath, Locus of Rage. I thought he would be synergistic with mana ramp, high volume of lands and Chandra's +1 ability.
Win-con's are Omnath, CHandra, Gideon and Needle Spires.
Tried to include answers for all creatures, especially with so much Aggro and quality creatures in Midrange decks.
Not sure what to substitute, or anything, so I was hoping for some critiquing and helpful comments on what is going good for the deck and what lacks.
Welcome! Happy you decided to return to the game. Wish I could have participated in Ravnica, heard it was fun.
Thank you for the welcome, means a lot ^^
I'm sorry you missed Ravnica, but at least you'll be playing in the new Innostrad block! I have a good feeling about it.
My name is William(Will), an dive been scouring the forums for a bit, ever since I got back into the game after New Years.
Been playing since the very end of original Zendikar and got into Standard right when the legendary Caw-Blade took over. Ran a Venser UW Control, Elf with Vengine and Grixis Control to fight off the Caws; good times.
Stopped playing for almost a year, and came back right when Ravnica was starting up. IMO. Best standard I've ever been in, and the most fun I've ever had in any card game. Ran the Esper Control Deck(yup, that one) and loved it until it was no more when Ravnica left. I skipped Khans since my favorite deck ever rotated, and returned once again in New Years after missing the game.
I'm strictly in Modern now. Sold my old modern UWR Control deck(regrettably) and now run Esper Draw-Go and Naya Burn.
I dislike playing creatures.. Spells are just so much more interesting to me and I'm gravitated to instants and sorceries. Sorry, aggro players
And if you are near Channelfireball, holler! NoCal FTW!
If WotC does end up banning Eye, then another popular deck would be hit hard: Tron. I don't know if WotC would allow TWO whole archetypes to just vanish from play. Unless they are both somehow playable even after Eye being banned.
Yes because every single game against eldrazi sees them resolving their god hand of T1 mimics, T2 TKS, T3 Reality smasher.
That being said, dream cards do not solve the issues people have right now, and with out actual proof that there is a viable answer in the next set I don't think that argument is going anywhere.
Also, you could make that card 2 mana and have etb draw a card and it MAY see play after that. There is also no such thing as colorless land.
Very true about the thought-knot, sadly.
I do like your additions to the card, and 2 CMC. But if WotC won't ban Temple or Eye, then I hope they come up with a card similar to that answer. Any great hate card(s) in Innistrad would be welcomed, if not better than just banning, imo.

Artifact
3 Colorless CMC
All colorless land cannot tap.
(Insert victory flavor text here)
Insanely strong, no bans required and puts Eldrazi in check.
