Are you sure? Hmmm. I can see him going for about 2.75 max or heck 5 bucks if someone is inflating the price. I agree this seems a bit forced in certain areas. My gripe is the one less toughness and heck where is the sexy flavor text? I mean the original had: Fear has no place in faiths battle plan. This one feels like a shopping list.
Oh No. No. I agree. That has also went through my head today. Food for thought as I say. There are times where I thought: Hell I can run both, why not. But this does bring me to a ultimatum of what what does he bring to the table I do not have? I mean hell it was to the point where I had to set this on the back-burner for awhile and just regale on this.
Thank you for commenting. This conversation just keeps on bringing more and more ideas. The new Odric is food for thought. But surely you got some critiques about the card?
You fergot how bug nutty crazy he would be with Archange of Thune or Baneslayer Angel to name a few. He has so many options going for him I was thinking that too. In a G/W deck deck, things get crazy. Or heck look at one of my favorite cards Elite Inquisitor: Vigilance. The combos are endless.
I was thinking about the new Odric and then to got me wondering: is it worth replacing Odric, Master Tactician for Odric, Lunarch Marshal? What say you about this? In a vacuum what do you think? This new Odric is splashable for 3 colorless and one white. But something is just making me scratch my head here. I mean his ability is basically Angelic Skirmisher on crack with one less toughness and a new coat of paint. The devil is in the details, that one less toughness can be a killer; and he needs the said creature to have the abilities on it to be even worth it. Red will kill him on the spot, by kill spells (then again every color can). I mean the old Odric can make creatures un-blockabe; plus in a mirror he is just negates all the big threats on the board; and all the combat math. While the other can effect the board immediately. Who wouldn't mind a double strike, vigilance, Flying, and lifelink on a group of creatures. But then again both do require a team in hindsight. Give me your thoughts, is he worth to build a deck around this guy. Is he worth his salt? This one seems to be on a higher ceiling, I mean this is a complex dilemma. As Sean Connery said on Highlander: "There can be only one."
Finally someone did notice that too. This seems to set up the huge players in Innistrad right now. Odric showing doubt on the side he is on, having his resolve tested. While Sigarda is planning to rebel against Avacyn. I really hope he does not turn evil, as I said before it seems that there is no side to root for.
"That she is - she's called Grete. Interesting fact: she's also Odric's lieutenant Smile I think Odric will turn out to be on the right side of this tale."
I think Odric will be the most flushed out character in this set. I would love to see him join Avacyn’s Inquisition and believe in it so wholeheartedly. However after Avacyn slaughters an entire town he shows doubt ( look at his face, its tired and its strained). Because he believes in protecting the innocent and rooting put evil. That his conviction is tested to the brink, where he looks at his sword and thinks: “"Has it really come to killing angels with holy swords? If it means I have to try to kill the evil that I once believed in all my life now I must end it". I want to see where this leads, that in the end he wants to kill Avacyn only to find Sorin killing her. He would be shocked at witnessing this, and may go on a crusade to kill Sorin believing he is the one responsible of corrupting her. But also notice that the power in his blade is not 'corrupted'. Which is odd.

But look at that face, it shows doubt. I feel Odric is feeling guilt ridden after all that conspired. According to the MTG Article it sounds like he is having his resolve tested, questioning he is on the right side after he hears what Avacyn has been doing. I feel that he might leave the order altogether. I just feel that we should fear what happened to Thalia now.

I think it would add layers to Odric where he is showing doubt in his command that his morals is pushed to the brink. That after all of this time: Was his religion all a lie? Avacyn maybe dead and gone, but will he uphold the principals he once believed in? Flush out Odric more and more, I would love to see what are his thoughts. As a writer myself this could flush out more of his character.
"I could see him ending up being the Mikaeus of this block: Good in the first set, turned bad in the 2nd one. Also as I just witnessed on tumblr, his sword is actually infinite!"
Please let this not be the case. We already lost Avacyn and we already Know Sigarda is the last 'good' angel on the plane. I mean come'on Wizards let me just have one human to root for. I mean Innistrad is going to the gutter, let it just be this one good guy we can root for.
Dang Odric, you come back to us more....Well I am for a lack for words here. I mean look at that shopping list he has on him; you were first The Master Tactician to Geralt of Rivia. You have to read this guy over and over till you read: This guy can give you a lot of cool abilities, you win. I am amazed his flavor text did not have: Fear holds no place in MY Battle plan, screw Avacyn. Although he looks worse for wear here, it looks like he still holds that sword with avacyn's symbol as a reminder, or he's about to toss it aside. Please do not make him evil. He was the one Human I am actually rooting for as a underdog hero whom sticks to his principles.
I feel when the humans take back their main cities, they are going to need Odric. He is the only person I feel can give Avacyn's army tfun for their money. Innistrad does have a fighting chance with Sigarda and Him. I just hope Odric does not die. He looks really stressed and somewhat distraught that his faith has gone to crap and he now is trying to find a reason to fight. He might see inspiration when he finds survivors of other cities and Sigarda.
I think if there is one man whom can take on Avacyn it would Be Odric and Sigarda. The perfect combo in a rebellion. But I wonder if this scars him somehow. That he is lost. But oddly in his bio he was not really a religious man as said in his bio.
"Odric is a battlefield man, better suited to combat maneuvers than negotiating the politics of the Avacynian Church. One of his duties as a Church commander"
