I got it with the Avacyn Restored event deck when it was like a $6 card so I don't have anything in particular tied up in it, but I recently noticed it's spiked. Do we expect continued increase as long as Death's Shadow is a thing?
Ebay completed is $15-20 which on my budget means sell unless I have an immediate use for it, which I don't. (I mainly play casual and draft, and I have no foreseeable plans to get into Legacy.) Then again it feels "special" enough to keep in the collection until it finds a deck, so I'm waffling.
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised at all if we were to see these products getting opened and having the planes and decks/deck singles sold separately and priced accordingly to help them sell better. So, perhaps something like seeing the planechase plane sets of 86 going for $100 (maybe $120 on the higher end depending upon what people are willing to pay). and then selling the singles separately for those that only want the planes or those that may only want the singles from the decks, etc. Honestly on the overall I would say that $100 would be a fair price and should sell quite well for those interested in just the 86 planes/phenomenon from the box set, and as mentioned, that would be basically 50% off of the current asking/selling/sold prices for the complete set of 86 that they can be gotten for right now. Guess we will just have to wait and see though. And heck for the people who want the decks, but not the planes, or the people who want the planes and not the decks, there is of course the potential option to buy the box set, and then sell the planes sets, or sell the 4 decks to end up with that amount of money back, and still getting what they particularly wanted from the product in the first place. Otherwise just keep an eye out for the items being sold separately and is available at a decent price for the parts you want, then go for it :).
Actually yeah, I want to pick up the themed decks for casual play if I can get them cheapish. Somebody in my playgroup already has 90-95% of the planes. I like the mechanics Devour and Totem Armor, and I haven't played with Cascade or Ninjutsu but I'm interested in familiarizing myself with them.
I'd like to apologize in advance for my poor 'shopping skills and the lame pun, but after seeing those two tokens side by side in this thread I couldn't help myself.
This product is just so confused about what it wants to be. It's clearly designed as a draft set, but the short print run, high MSRP, and flashy high priced Mythics that will push up the already high MSRP because people are stupid, makes the set terribly unsuited to draft.
This. If packs were $5-7 and readily available I'd draft this into the ground, but $10/each isn't something I can justify doing more than a couple of times. Not to mention the supply will dry up overnight from people tearing through boxes solely for value.
Frankly I'd rather see a $3.99 version of this set without the bling mythics warping the entire experience, but that's never going to happen.
My FLGS is holding drafts for $35 ($10/each + entry) and there were MM2 drafts all over the area when that came out. I have every intention of drafting this at least once and hopefully more. IMO supply drying up and egregiously hiked prices will be far more of an obstacle than people's desire.
My FLGS is drafting at $35 with Standard prize support. Seems pretty reasonable: $10/booster plus entry. It's what MM2 drafts were going for around here.
The big thing I want from EMA is Imperial Recruiter, that card is way to expensive for an uncommon and I could finally finish off my Painter deck. In fact a lot of the 3PK cards would be sweet can could easily fill in some of the common/uncommon spots.
Yeah, I'm crossing my fingers for a good chunk of Three Kingdoms. If not now, when? The flavor means most can't be reprinted in Standard, and the highly desired cards are far and away too expensive for any precon product.
I think additional income from this new set might justify more testing. The set would also involve less costs since there's no story/flavor/(probably) new mechanic to design. And yeah bannings would also keep busted cards in check. The main issue would be the art. Not sure if the sales from a small(er) format would cover art costs for brand new cards.
Exactly. Seems like Modern Masters could become essentially a Modern Core Set. It would be mostly normal reprints, but with a chunk of new cards and a few Legacy reprints they don't want to send through Standard to introduce into the format.

Agreed. I preferred dethrone for that reason: it's always easier to take shots at the person at the top than to take their place.
