Tingot,
Celestial Purge is an instant speed answer to threats that are particularly strong against our deck. Liliana/Sorin planeswalkers, Blood Moon, Bitterblossom (rarer) Fast huge threats that we might want a 5th point removal spell for like Tasigur/ZomFish/DeathShad/Goblin rabblemaster
Also, right above your post there's a great post that outlines some of the benefits of Blessed Alliance.
Howdy folks, lurker here, been on UWC for a almost 2 months. I have a question for the group on tournament prep.
Preface: I've pre-registered for my first GP (April)Several local players I respect have suggested I take a less mentally taxing deck, the few that were encouraging my desire to play UW have suggested I choose my 75 firm asap and practice with the same 75 for the next few months to get a feel for drawing to one's outs and knowing what you have to count on.
So, making card considerations (like the Runed Halo discussion above)if I know that a particular card will be strong in a broader meta, like a GP, should I be practicing with the card at my local shop where it is not likely a great call against the field. And likewise, should I take my beats at the local shop knowing knowing I could be playing cards aimed at the known meta.
Next question, do you think the online meta represents the large paper event in any way?
In planning my 75 for a large event, is it really better to make that call months in advance or keep my options open trying cards as they come up in conversation here? I understand the value of having the lines well-rehearsed but if the game plan doesn't change, just the players (cards) should I be able to be flexible until the last few weeks of prep.
Todd Stevens posted his updated decklist for Etron and he has moved all chalices to the board. Opinions ?
Link?
Seems fine if the meta has shifted to a point where they are better cards to have in the board than in the main honestly.
It's behind the SCG paywall. I get his decision. More interaction in the MB is where I've been in the local meta for a while, but I had cut the mindstones and relic to fit 2 WW and 2 Collars in the main. Frankly, I think he's spot on.
I'm interested in the Uncharted Territory list, pun intended. I don't know about wretched Gryff or the basics. I think I'd just go with a 3/4 split of cavern/uncharted 7 mana sources for the Sky Spawners, World Breakers and I'd want to try an Elder Deep-fiend over the griff.
Edit: But, I'm no deck builder I don't know if 7 sources are better than 6+1 for each of two colors, but you also get the uncountable buff from Caverns.
If we're willing to give up our Affinity match entirely, we could trade out Quarters for the new tribal land from Ixalan. That and Cavern should let you cast World Breakers, Drowners, heck even emerge a Deep-Fiend hehehe. Might be x-mas land... might be the next evolution between BANT and Colorless...
My worry about the deck's success is more based around other players gaining a familiarity with the matchup, being more prepared more for us in SB.
Without a return to E-Winter, I'm not too fearful of the ban hammer. But, fast mana is always on the public's "chopping block."
Basing my statement on the deck's recent results on seeing it consistently top 8. The day two conversion rates. And the grumbling I hear locally. 8D
Thanks! I'm starting to wonder if I'm just trying to force a deck with bad match ups in my shop. Maybe it will make me a better player... Or I'll snap.
Hey folks,
I'm just starting to get comfortable with the deck after about a month of regular play with a stock list.
My local Meta is very creature aggro/combo heavy, on any given night I will usually see:
I don't see myself playing much outside my shop in the near future though I do like small events around the state and want to prepare for the upcoming Modern Season.
Now to the question. Recognizing that I know so many of my game 1 matchups will be creature based, is it reasonable to include more mainboard low pain removal (WWail/SpCo) over say Dismembers and maybe lose a reshaper or two?
I potentially see this as freeing up a turn to crack map, pop a relic or Mstone if needed, and hold up removal. I'm certain this is an often debated point but as a relatively new player (about a year) tuning for meta feels like my next opportunity for growth. Thanks.
I will be running that new indestructible land, since I'm still on the 3 EE mainboard plan being able to have a colorless sword that can't be GQ as well as the ability to cast my EE from 0 to 5 sounds great.
I was seriously lamenting that last night. I top decked EE across from Kiki-chord, looked at the 4cmc Resto on the board and sighed.
Hey guys, infrequent poster.
I've been playing modern for a little over a year, I've been playing our deck for the last 4 months with some good results (top 8 in this year's states!).
One thing I've been struggling with is getting over the finish line, and I've been wondering about borrowing some tech from a deck like Infect.
Distortion Strike or, probably better for us, Slip Through Space to make sure we connect and the card draw doesn't suck.
Yeah, in a good game we can Drowner lock, but I just hate getting into a board state against an opponent like Knightfall or Merfolk and suddenly they've gone tall and wide and I'm shut of of pushing the last few points.
Thanks for the response/s (everyone). I totally had a derp moment, having won game two he was on the draw in game three.
I must have been half asleep when I posted.

This is interesting to me because I always thought that we are the controlling deck in the affinity matchup, post board.
Your suggestion is to race them, rather than lower your curve and attempt to control the board?
I'm just starting to get comfortable with the deck after about a month of regular play with a stock list.
My local Meta is very creature aggro/combo heavy, on any given night I will usually see:
1-3 Affinity players
2-4 CoCompany decks (Kiki, Counters, Elves, Bant Spirits, Knightfall)
1-2 Bant Eldrazi players
0-1 Burn
0-1 Abzan
0-1 Brew (Quest, Mill, etc)
I don't see myself playing much outside my shop in the near future though I do like small events around the state and want to prepare for the upcoming Modern Season.

FWIW, Last night:
R1 0/2 8Rack
R2 0/2 Skred
R3 1/2 Kiki
R4 Bye.
