So I am back again prepping now for gp indy at the end of the month but currently gearing up for a gpt hoping to get some byes. How do you guys feel about not being a hard tier two anymore as stated by modern nexus. I have made some changes from the more aggressive brew I took to grand prix detroit but i am nervous about what the tier one decks bring to the table. The gpt is saturday morning so hoping for some help before then if possible.
Here is the deck as it currently stands:
i am mainly concerned about the abzan company match up is there any tech out there that has been discovered to consistently deal with it? Yes i know there are only 3 caverns i have not been able to find a 4th and as far as canopy goes they are just too much of an investment at this time.
I find that i play really well in most matches the only decks holding me on edge are living end, ad nauseum, and company. everything else i have been able to put up decent numbers against lead and wrens run are amazing out of the board against control and essence warden is something new that i was going to try out this friday. Has anyone tried Loaming Shaman or Samurai of the Pale Curtain. Thanks for any help.
i like the list i will also be in detroit for the gp i do not agree with cutting the1 dwynen's elite for rec sage i currently have 1 nettle sentinel cut for that spot because i feel the nettle is weaker and the dwynen is giving us too much advantage when it is cast or comes into play. here is the final list that i will be playing this weekend.
so grateful to all the great work that everyone is putting in on this as i crawl closer to gp detroit. we are testing and applying everything that has been suggested at this point. you may be right that spellskite is no longer needed with its primary purpose being to come in against infect now that twin is gone from the meta.
if i make no changes this is the list that i will be taking to the gp. currently i am thinking that because of the meta it might be in our best interest to cut 1 kitchen finks for a 2nd copy of fracturing gust of creeping corrosion. i have a feeling that the affinity match in detroit may be as prevalent as the eldrazi match and finks is primarily there for burn.
something that has not been discussed yet to my knowledge is the plan for the through the breach decks and the griselshoal variants. has anyone tested against these or are we just planning on luck to get us there? without having access to relic of progenitus or scavenging ooze i am unsure if we currently have any answers to these decks.
i would like to apologize for this question as i have problems sideboarding and it has been referred to many times on this forum what specifically are th attrition matchups. if some could explain to me what attrition is that would also probably be beneficial. thank you
i have been testing with 1 reclamation sage and 1 spellskite in the main are you missing these at any point. how is your matchup against infect going without spellskite in the 75
i am liking this list i am also curious about the leads though. i will be at detroit as well but have been having issues with affinity getting smoked by master of etherium. i think bringing scooze back is a good idea but no clue on where abzan and jund will be as far as the meta my plan is to play friday morning to access the meta
at this time i am still planning on mb spellskit and 1 reclamation sage as i feel that they are needed to have more consistent game 1's. i feel that we on this board and with this play style have extremely strong post board games. in the testing that i have done i am loving stain the mind it is a game ending answer to kiki chord, gbx coco combo decks not to mention great side hate against the mirror where you are able to take their shaman of the pack out of the game permanently. this also gives an unfair amount of information cause you are able to see what they sideboard in along with access to their hand information. to me seems that this could also be used against the eldrazi decks removing smasher from the game on turn 2 can buy us alot of time or getting ride of displacer the u/w version is now crippled. i do however think that this card is too slow for any aggro match but could be great for u/w/x control where you are taking away verdict or in tron where karn is no longer a concern. i am not a fan of the ghost quarter though because i feel that tron recovers from this too easily and is not going to slow done the eldrazi decks which are running between 23-25 lands. and all of them seem to be running some kind of basic as more of a find against path than anything else. as i put the final touches on a complete sideboard guide i will post it when it is complete so that i can edit it to take with me to the gp.
thank you for all the amazing input thus far i wish we could have seen what elf list was played at scg open just for the additional input data. i am really liking the direction that we are currently headed in thanks for all the hard work. good luck to everyone in their events this week.
@Syreal94 thank you for the reply and the amazing analysis that you have put in regarding the decisions that you made. I have taken aback by how amazing and helpful the responses have been regarding my request. after many hours of testing unsure how many games were played but i agree that losing the card advantage that visionary brings us the upside of vanquisher is not worth it. also thank you to @mayshowers for insight into the living end match up. i am definitely going to play seer out of the side. unsure if cutting spellskite is the right choice as of yet cause i think that it can still by us time against the infect match up. which at the current time i believe is our worst match up especially once they resolve blighted agent. this is why i choose to run decay out of the side i wait until they have cast all of their pump spells then cast decay destroying the target.
@mikeduges
Thank you for the welcome i have been playing modern elves since before collected company was a thing i would consider myself to be very familiar with the deck. At the moment i am attempting to put the most competitive deck possible for the meta that we are currently playing in with our eldrazi overlords. here is the list that i am currently testing.
i really like the addition of vanquisher i am not missing collected company into visionary just to take it to hit a land. the largest down side that i am finding currently is i am able to lay my whole hand most games on 2 with no way to refill even though chord is the best answer that we have to get what we need when we need it i am no longer sure how it fits in the deck and i am going to begin testing lead the stampede instead of chord i am thinking maybe cut 3 for 3 leads. but currently it is still in testing. this is the first attempt that i have made moving towards a shaman list and away from an ezuri focused list that i have been playing. though i have taken the ezuri list to two 4-0 wins at the last two weeks of modern fnm. beating out top decks burn twice, colorless eldrazi aggro, affinity twice, big eldrazi, merfolk. because of the results that i am currently having are we sure that the shaman deck is where we want to be in the current meta. all in all i am very confused and stressed about the upcoming gp being my first grand prix. i really just want to put the best deck that i can on the table for the event. thank you for all help and suggestions.
ps a friend of mine suggested cutting some of the creatures from the main and replacing them with sylvan messenger is that a good choice for us at the current time?
Okay i am brand new to the forum and have read from about page 164 forward and i have everything that is being said very interesting. through my own private testing i am liking 3 vanquishers in the main instead of visionaries. i am not however sold on lead and i believe that chord of calling is a superior option. There has to be a rec sage in the main played several games against both eldrazi aggro and lantern control and without it you might as well scoop game 1 just to get into the board in my opinion. i am now finally posting because we are about 2 weeks away from gp weekend at this point i am talking elves to Detroit and hoping to push the deck into the top 64. as there are so many competitive players here can we begin to lay down what we are thinking our final deck lists will be so we can begin testing these and ironing out the wrinkles so we are ready to smash at the gps. it would be a great help to me please only contribute if you are going to play and explain your options i will be posting my list this thursday with extensive explanation as to why i made the choices that i have made along with a sideboard break down for the current meta that i am playing against here in michigan.
