just chiming in from the sidelines... you can do double elim, or any tournament setup you want. you just need HARD RULES. make it clear, and no excuses. matches are reported within X days, or the judge makes a decision. there may be tears, but too bad.
Commander goes to hand - can put in command zone instead?
Sounds like a simple question, but this is not clear. The duel commander website does not say this , but the regular commander website does. Could someone from DC please update your website (and also the duel commander megathread) to explicitly say what is the rule here.
sweet deck and seems strong but also fair. she needs a lot of support, there is no 1 card combo here (yisan...), this is the kind of combo general green needs.
what if 6% enter a tournament and 6% win? data is nice dudes, but this format doesn't have nearly the amount of data/tournaments that sanctioned wizards formats do. like OK, do we really need freaking data to tell us that demonic tutor is overpowered and should be banned? I don't, personally. same goes for Marath keeping out aggro decks. it just plain does - look at the card man. top 8 results can thus be helpful but can't be used alone. there just isn't enough tournament data.
anyway, every argument here is old news. the format is just being sculpted, it's not going to be balanced. it is very obvious how to truly balance and make the format more competitive: lower life totals, and institute the legacy banlist or something similar. until then you're just sculpting an inherently broken format. that's fine though, i love duel commander, it's amazing even if its not perfect. and to be honest i think the RC are honest about their approach. commander is for playing cards and combos and strategies you just can't do in other formats. hence the higher life, some of the legal cards, the commander, etc. but let's not kid ourselves this format is able to be fair like other real formats.
Aw. I just read the thread and this seems like a cool idea. Why are you guys suggesting it to be deliberately chosen commanders? The point is that you will bid potentially a lot of starting cards to get a godlike commander, vs. a bad commander with 14 cards. To me that seems to be the whole point. Looks fun, i'd play if you do it again.
My 2 cents: draws should get zero points. this is a tournament mostly for practice, metagame data, etc. yes we all want to win but at the same time i think we all want to play magic. then again, I do not disagree with those ID'ing - I might even do it myself, because its within the rules of the game, but yes I think moving forward it might be better to just have zero points for a draw. plus this is more incentive to finish your matches AND play a deck that can actually end a game in a reasonable amount of time.
