A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

"Divergence" refers to the planes diverging from their proper history. It's not just two planes slamming together Conflux-style; these worlds have been combined as if they were always that way. In any case, "Convergence" might have also been appropriate, but every round this month starts with D, so I have to stick to the pattern. ;P

Viperion - I did make a note in Clarifications in the OP: "If you choose a plane that has been visited in multiple blocks, such as Dominaria or Mirrodin, please note which block you're referencing themes from."

You seem to be interpreting the challenge correctly, so no worries. If you're unsure whether your card fits the criteria, just ask.

Another note: By planes, we're referring to the settings for each magic block, not the Planechase cards. You don't need to find a way to combine mechanics from Plane cards (though you're free to do so if you choose, I don't necessarily recommend it since there seem to be a number of players who don't really like Planechase or are unfamiliar with it).

    Quote from CodGod
Does this mean we pick one of theme/flavour/mechanics and combine this from the two planes, or can we, say, combine the flavour of one plane and the mechanics of another?
    Either way works fine.

    THE CARD CREATION LEAGUE
    [ September 2011 ]
    ROUND TWO
    "The Divergence"
    • The Card Creation League is a monthly contest in which players compete over seven rounds. Each month has an overall theme and/or story, determined by that month's host.
    • Each round, the host will assign a card creation task to the players. This task may vary between teams or players.
    • The first three rounds are open to everyone who joined in the sign-up thread, which will be posted near the end of the previous month. After these rounds, the Top 8 players will move on to three single elimination rounds to determine a winner.
    • Rounds usually last three to four days for submissions and about two days for critiques, but the host has final say in making the schedule.
    • For the first three rounds, players are divided into teams. Four teams is standard, but there may be more or less depending on the number of players. Each team will review another team's cards during the critique period of that round.
    • Each player must submit a Top 3 ranking for the team he or she critiques at the end of each round. Each 1st place is worth 3 points, 2nd place 2 points, and 3rd place 1 point.
    • Additionally, each player can receive 2 bonus points per round. One point is awarded for posting a Top 3, and one point for providing critiques for that team's cards.
    • Suggested areas to critique include creativity, balance, printability, and relation to the overall theme or that player's previous cards.
    • Players who do not post a card or a Top 3 will be put on "probation." Top 3 violations for a round can be removed by posting or PMing the host with your Top 3 before the end of the next round. Any player that would receive a second violation is disqualified from further competition that month.
    • At the end of the first three rounds, the Top 8 players will be selected by points (usually the top 2 from each team). In the case of ties, there may be more than 8 players advancing. The host will determine matchups for single elimination. At the end of each elimination round, remaining players not in that matchup will choose a winner to advance. The host will break any ties.
    • The final round is determined by public poll.
    • Prior to Top 8, players have a chance of getting a total of 100 points toward their score each Scoring Round. Scores for each Round are determined by the following equation:
    • Total points of Player A in round N = 100 * X/Y, where:
    • X = Total number of Scoring Points (Judge Points + Additional Points from Top 3 & Critiques)
    • Y = Total number of Possible Points (3 * Number of Judges + Additional Points)
    • 3 points are given for a First Place Top 3 finish, 2 points for a Second Place, and 1 point for a Third Place. 1 additional point is awarded if a Top 3 is submitted. 1 additional point is awarded if Critiques are given for all entries to be judged.
    • This way the grading is more streamlined in the fact that all rounds prior to Top 8 are graded equally, and there is no handicap for any team that has fewer judges.
    • Each player accumulates points from each Scoring Round until the end of Round 3.
Waiting for any late Top 3 submissions before calculating points.

After pouring all your time and resources into your project, you've finally perfected a relatively reliable and safe means of interplanar exploration. Beginning your studies in earnest, you seek to gather as much information as possible about this first otherworld you've made contact with.

Yet as you dig deeper, you realize it's beginning to look familiar - in more ways than one. You're certain you've heard of this place before, found information about it during your earliest efforts to prove such worlds even existed. It wasn't apparent to you at first, because there were too many conflicting facts, but more and more every piece of information you collect points towards a single, undeniable truth: it's almost as if, at some point in the past, the course of this world's history was altered, the realities of two separate worlds meshed together. There are too many coincidences - names, places, past events - for it to have no connection to both other worlds.

Before you can continue your exploration, you must pierce to the truth of this boggling mystery. It's time to take a closer look.

This round, you must create a card that combines the themes, flavor, and/or mechanics of any two existing planes. If your Round One card enabled you to personally visit a plane, your card must be an instant, sorcery, or enchantment you witnessed being cast in this amalgamated plane. If your Round One card only allowed you to view a plane remotely or bring back information via a minion, subordinate, or tool, your card must be an artifact, creature, or land that was observed there.
If you choose a plane that has been visited in multiple blocks, such as Dominaria or Mirrodin, please note which block you're referencing themes from.
You have until Saturday, September 10th at midnight Pacific, when it becomes Sunday, to complete your submissions. Please include a link to your Round One submission in your post.
The deadline for critiques will be Tuesday, September 13th at 11 PM Pacific.

    Awesome. Kekeke

If he doesn't make it in time, can we still do the last challenge anyways?

Although I don't have a problem giving him extra time if it comes down to it.

You may be right about #7.

Since it grants an ability to the creature, the effect would work based on the number of creatures the targeted creature's controller has, rather than working like an aura and still being controlled by its caster regardless of who controls the enchanted permanent.
