I wouldn't be surprised. But the ranking is the only reson he'd be in town but not play either big event this weekend, and he had extensive knowledge of the format (I was told by guys I play tested with who had every single tier 1 deck right there, so I trust their word on someone's knowledge of the format).

Yeah, the guy didn't play..otherwise I would've. I found Eddie Anderson, Noah W. Swartz, Jimmy R. McCarthy, Samuel H. Black, Mike D. Youngberg, Rashad S. Miller, and Bob Havolic as the only people in either region that can possibly fit the ranking. I'm just having trouble finding which one won two 5ks.

My friend and I just got back from an FNM at our local shop in Burnsville, Minnesota, and it's the night before the Saturday 5k event and Sunday PTQ. A guy was looking through my trade book while I played a round so we could trade in between, and when I had finished he had run off with it. From what he told others in idle conversation while he was there, he's from out of town, from Chicago, but plays in Wisconsin. He doesn't want to play the 5k or ptq because his ranking is above 2000, so he doesn't want to take the risk of losing rank since he gets auto in for having a ranking above 2050 (though his isn't there yet). He's fat, ugly, wears a hat in an attempt to conceal that, and probably most key in finding him is the fact that he won two 5Ks. That's gotta narrow it down. I'm searching right now myself, but would really appreciate some help. Sorry for posting this here, but because I doubt he's in town for long I needed the forum with most views. I'll remove it soon, but really need help cause it's a $600 book and I'd have to quit the game if I don't get it back. I also doubt he'd risk coming back to the event location tomorrow or Sunday.

    *sigh*

I think I'm just going insane. It doesn't exist. I just combed through the gatherer like nothing else and came up empty handed. If anyone has any more ideas, I'd really appreciate it, though.

Definitely not. I remember thinking "Wow, a draw two cards for 1U spell. How unusual for standard."

I really need to find this card I could of sworn was in the format for a deck of mine. To my recollection it was something along the lines of:

    1U

    Instant

As an additional cost to play this card, return a creature you control to its owner's hand.

Despite my best efforts, I can't find it on the gatherer or anything. Wtf am I thinking of?

It also won States in Minnesota. From what I have seen, the deck accels really fast to drop big stuff. It plays Garruk and Siege Gang and wall to stop aggro and late game the deck stocks up on mana with the storage lands, and uses it to burn for a lot. Personally I don't think the deck is that great, but that's me.

I'm the kid that got 3rd at MN champs with lightning angel [non-blink] control. I lost to that piece of sh*t in the semifinals. Whichever one of us won was going to take the whole thing cause elves was a by. The fact of the matter is that the deck is god-awful, in terms of matchups. That entire night the guy didn't face a single turbo-fog matchup, which is lucksackery to say the least, seeing as how prevailent that archetype is in our region-there were like 10 turbo fog decks among 115 people, and they were facing the mirror! I strongly doubt that he played teachings, fairies, pickles, or anything good other than mark's deck in top 8. The fact of the matter is that this deck loses consistently to anything control-related with counters in it.

I've recently toyed around with not including helixes in my list...It's been working pretty well. If you could choose only one of the following, would you run remand or helix?

It has been proven time and time again that plants can, and do, provide all essential nutrients for the human body. In terms of healthy eating, vegetarianism is unparalleled. I, myself, am omnivorous and proud of it, although I do acknowledege that there is nothing wrong with vegetarianism. While plants can provide oneself with everything one needs, all while lowering cholesterol in the process, I believe that meat does it in a more natural manner. Long-term, I believe that a vegetarian diet might result in a slightly frail digestive system, although I am not a dietrician, but an egocentric 15 year-old kid, and this is not based off of any clinical study. If you have evidence that suggests otherwise, I'd be happy to hear it. I do not agree with the environmentalist, non-health based reasons for becoming a vegetarian, but wholeheartedly support those in search of a better, healthier, self.

Goyf is not the only argument for splashing green. I might be mistaken, but...uh...isn't scab-clan mauler still legal? Isn't Troll Ascetic now in the format? And...uh...artifacts have become somewhat more viable post 10th, so wouldn't hooligan be a solid addition? Gruul never had issues with consistency either, so what possible competitive reason is there for keeping it mono red?

This is what we call a god-awful version of boros. I tried out mono-burn a few months ago, and the deck has now become significantly better what with incinerate in, and cop red out. It's still terrible. Want a mono burn deck? Play pyromancer's swath combo. I've played both with and against it, and the thing goes off consistently at roughly the same speed as dragonstorm. The deck's solid, and stricly better than this jank.

Willbender is amazing in this deck! I cannot stop Take Possession! Does anyone know what to do when I am in a situation where they target Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir with Take Possession?

Keep in mind that competitive decks are in no way a representation of a set's quality. Decks are constricted to roughly 9 play sets of specific cards. In putting a deck together, one does not include fairly good cards, but rather whatever broken chase rares happen to be in the color of, and contribute to, the deck in question. Ravnica simply had many exceptional singles such as remand and loxodon hierarch that see competitive play in a variety of tier 1 and 2 decks. Betrayers is a great example of such a misconception. Jitte's hot, but the block (and set) are god awful.
