Commander is a very fun format where just about everything is legal, and all the cards you were told were too expensive to be playable are now playable and good.
Pick up a preconstructed commander deck to get a good start and work from there.

It's Spark Elemental, but for one extra mana it comes back from hell!

To transform on turn 3 you need: t1 fetch, thoughtscour. (4) T2 fetch, play this. (5) T3 any upkeep instant. The trigger is card 7. Admittedly, this does leave a land tapped so you can't tap for four which was the point of the experiment. So hope your opponent plays thoughtseize.

If you cast it on [c]Lullmage Mentor[\c] you only need to counter one or so spells this turn. (assuming you also have six other creatures)

    Not impressed.

    Yeah, me neither.

It's weird. Whenever they randomly stumble across something that is really beloved by players, they always seem to overdo it the next time and they come off as kinda meh.

Same thing with the Terese Nielsen Judge Foils that everyone completely lost their minds over.. Once again, the original GURUS are just lightyears more interesting and visually striking but everyone just fell all over themselves trying to out-praise eachother over a cycle of fairly generic-looking full-art lands. Silly.

These are...OK. Was honestly hoping for landscape-oriented full art lands. THAT would have been actually 'innovative'. These really aren't.

I'm sure this won't be a popular opinion. Just expressing myself. Smile Enjoy your Unstable lands, everyone.

I also feel like I've seen these before.

Depends on your list, but once they Reanimate Sire of Insannity, or Grisslelybear you're p much toast.

    A fun little interaction:

Temple of Aclatzotz + Death's Shadow Is always 13 life.
Forecast Proclamation of rebirth and you're always at 13 life!

Does Merfolk have a Need for 'just a good body' in this Green Branching Merfolk?

I'm confident Growing Rites and Opt will both be duds. You can't transform it on command, and only at the end step. Opt is interesting but it has no home. Modern is a format where you either need to dig deeper (Serum Visions) or use the Graveyard (Thoughtscour). Scry one, draw one is only good when you have another instant at the same cost. SO it looks promising in a control build until you remember that these builds would be running Snapcaster and he would prefer you filled up the graveyard, not hide the card away.

I don't disagree with Rites, but the Opt assessment seems way off. Digging +1 in Modern control is way less important than holding up mana for answers. Control decks, especially on the draw, no longer need to tap out on T1 for a cantrip. They can also Snapcaster/Opt on an opponent's T3, instead of tapping out for Snap/SV on their own T3. Finally, you don't get a blind draw off Opt, which is critical in a Modern format that demands specialized answers. Overall, Opt will be a strong card in control, GDS, and other strategies.

GDS? Grixis Death's shadow? What would Opt replace?

With that being said, unless self-milling (or milling your opponent just in case you're still playing Mill) brings significant benefits (such as Delve or Lingering Souls), I think Opt replaces Thought Scour.

What deck is running Thought Scourt that isn't also designed to utilize the graveyard?

Commune with Nature is pretty bad, and Commune with Dinosaurs is terrible. It will see zero play in Modern (duh). Ancient Stirrings is nice but fringe and does not feature in any tier 1 decks.

Serum Visions is used in multiple top tier decks.

    But ok.

    *barring a breakout dinosaur deck.

It depends entirely on how many instants I have. If I want to threaten a bolt or a push I need opt. If I want to just dig I need visions.

Three Sets for the Old Blocks under old style,
Seven sets the eternal formats, their cards stand-alone,
Nine sets duel decks with room to grow,
One set for the for the God-Pharoh to return home,
To break apart the gatewatch, and set-up their rise.
One set to highlight them all, One set to find them,
One set to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of tarkir where Elder Dragons die.

Are you saying that Tarkir will be important to the Gatewatch in the future?

I'm at work and I can't give my parodies the effort they deserve.
