Other note, news story that just came up...this could be incredibly bad for Pakistani democracy:

Yeah, but also note what the official explanation is: to protect the state against radical islamist forces. So I believe Islam does have bad influence on states who want to become democratic.

And for Turkey: the influence of the military is so huge, they can tell the government which candidates they want (or more threatening: don't want). This has happend this year.

Pakistan does not practice nor is it ruled by Sharia Law. Further Turkey is an example of a secular islamic state. Pakistan does not kill people who critisize Islam. Pakistan leaders, especially Musharraf, have spoken out against radical Islamic ideas. Musharraf has said on several occassions that he wishes to remove all the "Freedom Fighters" from the disputed territories.

Well, it seems to me that the Islamic states you call democratic are either ruled by militarists (Musharraf) or the military has huge influence on the government (Turkey). So if you want to go ahead and call that democratic, please explain.

Easy to explain: Islam -unlike any other religion- has always been a part of every aspect of the way of muslim life. Islam doesn't seperate politics and religion, state and religion or even privacy and religion.
And because Islam not happens to be democratic (killing people who dare critisize it), the problem becomes obvious.

Why don't we just let things flow? Globalisation is on its way, so all aspects of the african culture that are worth being preserved will remain, and the rest is going to disappear (this is also true for every other culture). So why bother?
Just let society evolve. The strongest (culture) will survive and therefore is the best for humanity. Wink
(by that I mean: yes, we should try to expand our influence on africa through helping them)

Anyway, I've been thinking of ideas for the contest. My idea for a combining theme: reprints of cards timeshifted (ala Planar Chaos) into black and updated for Lorwyn.

    Boggart Fanatic B
    Creature - Goblin Berserker C
Sacrifice Boggart Fanatic: Target Creature gets -1/-1 until the end of turn.
    “Incoming! Incoming! In-”
    - Kinsbaile Lookout, last words
    1/1

    Glen Elendra Snipers 1BB
    Creature - Faerie Rogue U
    Flying
T: Glen Elendra Snipers deals 1 damage to target creature or player.
Protecting Glen Elendra is the Snipers’ first priority. The fact that getting along with the locals never crosses their mind is often their best asset.
    1/1

[Insert Name Here], Lys Alana Emissary BB
    Creature - Elf Druid R
T: Add B to your mana pool for each Swamp you control.
    [Insert Cool Flavor Text Here]
    2/1

(Extra credit to whoever figures out what the originals were ;).)

Nice cards, but I believe they have to share the same keyword or something like that. You know, like the "Gustcloak" creatures from Legions.

Sounds good Black Dawn. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Everyone in the clan can help! The more ideas, the better. At the moment, I'm not even sure which card type to create (the planeswalker update for MSE doesn't work on my computer :-/). I think everyone here agrees that our cards should be mono B.
And Svogthir, your idea about making the cards Lorwyn themed sounds great, so we already have something to work with. Either fairies, boggarts, or elves (oh yeah, and treefolk ). I think we should be able to come up with something new and spiffy, regarding what Lorwyn already offered us. Smile

Ok, the short story clan contest was a complete bust. But, the good news is that it apears that the new contest will be about card creation. The details haven't been settled on, but I'll keep you up to date. In the mean time, does any one have any intrest/experiance in card creation?

I have a bit experience in it. Sounds great! Wink

EDIT: I was checking the clan council thread and there are 3 possibilities for card creation:
#1: a 3-card cycle (monocolor; common, uncommon, rare)
#2: a 5-card cycle (blue, black, red, green, white)
    #3: both #1 and #2

I said that we would like to do #1 (hope you agree), because we can stay monocolored, there aren't too many cards to create and it still seems challenging to think of a new mechanic for a rarity cycle.

Let's say my opponent has an Exalted Angel and a Serra Angel in play. I play Terror, targeting his Serra Angel. My opponent responds by sacrificing his angel to Greater Gargadon (or whatever). Do I get to choose a new target (Exalted Angel)? Or is the spell simply countered due to lack of target?

So this one question just continues showing up in almost every game in my playgroup.
What happens if a creature with trample (let's say Darksteel Colossus) becomes blocked by my Nantuko Husk?
I declare blockers and then sacrifice my Husk to its own ability (before damage goes on the stack).
Do I recieve damage? What exactly happens? And is there a way to not being damaged in this situation?

Yawg being back would not be a good thing.

But only for non-black mages. :p
I would really enjoy seeing Yawgmoth coming back. It's sad he left so soon. Slant

Had a lot to do for school recently. For Lorwyn, I have to say that there really isn't a black tribe which is fun to play. Boggarts somehow suck. Don't know how to describe it... Mad
(I got a playset of the boggart land)

I wasn't at the prerelease, but I am planning to go to a Type 2 tournament and I was wondering what deck would be the best? (mono black off course)

I was thinking of MB Korlash control, anyone have any thoughts about how the deck schould look like or what other MB decks I could use?

Yeah, 4 of any rare (except Korlash) is usually bad. 2 should be fine.

Also, I'm writing this on my new iPod touch!

    Congrats Grin

Actually, me too. I'll be away the whole next week. Oh well, not that excited about Lorwyn that I can't wait for another 7 days.

Yeah, same with me. Lorwyn just doesn't look exciting enough. There are only about 7 cards that are interesting for me, the rest kind of sucks.
