I think Azerbaijan just lay down the most intense level of MTGSalvation Forum pwnage that I've seen.
It's cool. A lot of people hate artifacts. I can see why, mirrodin is very broken. I assume that's what most of it comes from. I was expecting more of that anyway and less of what I've already gotten, such as people agreeing. That was the last thing I was expecting.
If it does come down to artifacts, I'm pretty sure WotC knows what they're doing. Although...it's surprising Seedborn Muse is still around...I wonder if it'll be in tenth?
I don't think anything rules it out. But as you said yourself, there are a ton of signs all pointing in different directions. Any of them could be right, or they could all be wrong.
I don't see any reason for preferring artifacts over anything else as the theme for the next block. Every pro-artifact hint you found in TS has analogous hints
pointing in every other direction.
meh, I've already said what I had to say on that point. But it's not like every direction is going to be wrong, because it's been confirmed that the direction they're taking is in there. So the logical conclusion is that somewhere there's going to be cards similar to certain cards in FS. But a red flag to you would be the sheer number of different cards without any clear direction to any of them. That's understandable, but one of the first steps to predicting what it could be is figuring out the possibilities and ruling out the unlikely ones. I'm just saying this is more likely than what it looks like.
If anything, I would think that Scry is the one mechanic to reappear in TS block that's not random at all. I mean, it is the embodiment of having knowledge of the future. You look at N cards, and you can either put them back so you can draw them, or you can put them on the bottom of your library. So you can see the possible futures, and choose your actions to guide you to them.
Which falls right in line with WotC's now expressed opinion of time, especially the future. You can see multiple possible futures, but that doesn't mean they all come true; only some do. And logically, your actions help to determine which ones come true. Sounds like Scry to me.
If anything, Scry is the one "keyword" in the set that makes sense.
In fact, at one point I considered doing an alternate ending to TS block, and when thinking about homages to pay to Future Sight, the first thing that came to mind was Scry. And that was before I had seen even one FS card.
That makes a lot of sense. But do you think that rules it out as a hint toward an artifact block?
Convoke is back so randomly? A Ravnica mechanic?
Flanking is back so randomly? A Mirage mechanic?
Buyback is back so randomly? A Tempest mechanic?
Morph is back so randomly? An Onslaught mechanic?
Madness is back so randomly? An Odyssey mechanic?
Echo is back so randomly? An Urza mechanic?
Kicker is back so randomly? An Invasion mechanic?
Why are there so many land hating cards in timespiral? Avalanche Riders, Boom/Bust, Detritivore? Are they gearing players for the new onslaught of lands?
It seems like MTG is lulling us intoa false sense of security with the Myr and the Scrying. Lands are stirring, and I don't know blah blah.
Just like all the stuff that points in every other direction.
lol, nice. I'm just pointing out that this is a possibility. Many people see that a planeswalker is a direction, because it's so bluntly stated. This one's tricky. And yes, those are a lot of mechanics, but scry is pretty heavily concentrated. Most of those are from the set in general as well. The whole point of the first block was the past, therefore, old mechanics. It could just be upholding that. mmm...do you think lands will be a big thing in Lorwyn? Like the Dryad Arbor? "Ok, I'm just going to give your mountain a -1/-1." I don't know if it's a wise choice seeing as land destroy has to be land destroy to be effective. Making it as broad as just needing removal's a bad road for WotC. It'll be a cycle of crap.
But you're right. I could be completely wrong. You could be completely wrong. But the truth is, the next set is hiding in plain sight. A new mechanic, a new card type, anything.
The last of the cards missing from the spoiler are probably just little things that won't see play unless it's limited. I'm pretty sure we've all had the surprises intended. To do a different frame would just be ridiculous, and wouldn't it be on more cards than the few we're missing?
I know it's far fetched to think it'll be artifacts again for the notorious broken cards, but I think they had a lot of fun with it, it would definitely be out of nowhere to do it again, but maybe they'll fix it and add a new mechanic besides affinity that's not so overpowered.
Actually I hardly ever use Pallid Mycoderm to win funny enough, but when he does drop he kicks butt. Usually I just swarm with tokens and tap everything down I can. After turn 6-7 it just starts going crazy and after turn 10 its nuts. Thallids are so Explosive in the long run.
What really made me switch was when I lost to some noob because he had one fortune thief and i couldn't do anything about it...
Good point about the Squall Line. Don't take it out and just don't add the Delays.
lol, that's pretty much my deck now! I just wanted a change from Pallid Mycoderm being the kill card to utopia mycon just to run blue and Haze w/ counterspells. I'll definitely work around the deck to get more mana.
Take out the Think Twice for Psychotrope Thallid. It will give you more creatures for more saprolings as well as give you more card advantage. You also may want more lands in here, 20 for a Control deck is too few, take out the Intervention Pact for that. Finally, take out the 2 Squall Line for 2 Delay.
I think the Intervention Pact Is very risky. You always dont know what youre opponent can do next. Id suggest also putting in FS' delay. Its strong.
I totally agree with you. I've actually been thinking of scrapping both squall line and intervention pact for 2 demonfire and 2 delay. Seeing as I'm only going to be playing the demonfire when I have utopia thallid out, I don't see the harm that it's red. And delay is super sweet...
Future Sight Cards x11 3 Llanowar Mentor [mana accelerator, and works with Doubling Season] 4 Utopia Mycon [Important mana producer...] 2 Sprout Swarm [EOT Saprolings...you know you can pay the buyback with the convoke, right?] 2 Delay [More counterspells! Yes!]
The win here is two things: One, swarm your enemy. This can take out plenty of decks by itself. Two, use Utopia Mycon to sac for crazy mana and Squall Line for big. If you might die, Intervention Pact will save you, and you won't even have to pay the white later because the game's over!
What to work on:
I'd like to have more fungus to make sure Paradox Haze is doing something. Or at least some way to grab Sporesower.
More counterspells. I'd like to lead this into more of a control/swarm direction, at least the control.
I'm pretty sure there won't be any planeswalkers in this set, or even in future sets. A whole new card type seems just too bold for WotC. Even from a flavor perspective (which is important to only WotC and not to us it seems), a planeswalker doesn't make any sense. Because you yourself are supposed to be a planeswalker. Are you going to cast a spell to summon a person? It's just not likely.
Btw, I think this was already discussed elsewhere.

Lol, I edited it up top. I put in fungal reaches too just in case...you know, I never thought it would ever be used in a real fungus deck...hm.

Yeah, because it doesn't get anymore normal than future sight... <.<;

Doesn't that kinda screw up the whole point of blowing up with Squall Line? Especially if it's not in the deck?
