Hi
I'm a newbie here, and i was wondering if anybody got a reliable way to use Kiora, Master of the depths?
I'm leaning toward a Tooth and Nails variant, and i'm not very fan of those satyrs...reason is, if i'm going to have a permanent-based land-untapper, why not taking her instead?
The minus ability is a plus , being able to "fetch" an hydra or a titan...
And...let's face it, Island opens new horizons^^ isn't it the most played Magic card?^^
Kiora, Master of the Depths is technically your Garruk Wildspeaker 5-8 in Decks that splash Blue instead of Red (Xenagos, the Reveler being Garruk 5-8 in Red).
In T&N Running more than 4 Garruks is not very popular since you really only need to reach the "Magic 9" and cheaper enchants get you there faster. But there are always the more traditional lists if you really want to use Kiora
Kalas17 is also on to something with Sarkhan Vol (haste enabler) and Genesis Hydra...this is going to be something many many devotion decks are going to have to play now that blue is back in Modern.
The 4 Hydras main are mainly in there because a friend of mine is on Mono U Tron but thanks to unbans they might just have earned their place back over Wave. Also, I tried the Eidolon of Blossoms shell and it felt very VERY lackluster.
@CurdBros did you ever find an example of a "Stompy Devotion" list? That section is still empty, and I'm kind of interested what is meant by it. Is it just the Mono-G Stompy deck that runs aspect of hydra?
Not Curdbros but I guess it would look somewhat like my current list?
After testing with Cryptolith Rite for the new standard I'd say it seems to be on the verge of busted. In a larger card pool I can only imagine that it may be something that can be abused. I know in my testing, cards like Eidolon of Blossoms seemed on the verge of playability -this might be able to push things over the edge, but it still feels like we're a few cards away from a critical mass from a modern "enchantress" type deck.
Green really is getting a lot of Tools for card selection right now
It has been very interesting to see that they are moving card selection heavily to green. Between Oath of Nissa, Traverse the Ulvenwald, and now this...it seems they are very interested in letting us dig through our deck for the peices we need. as someone who's deck includes Cloudstone Curio, this appealed to me. My only issue is that it is somewhat mana intensive in the end. Traverse is pretty cool too. Early fixing, helps with land screw, etc. and then late becomes a great tutor. I don't mind if they will end up making Green Devotion in Modern; but in the right deck all of them certainly have a chance (and should be tested).
While I'm looking forward to drafting that, it's 2 more mana than oath to see one extra card. Devotion decks don't generally use the yard, so putting the cards there isn't really a benefit, and while hitting enchantments and artifacts is nice I don't imagine it's worth the extra mana.
Yeah the only benefits over Oath are
-digs 1 deeper
-grabs Enchantments/Artifacts
-can have multiple on field
-might be better in the odd situation of revealing a one-of that you really want later (Craterhoof Behemoth/Hornet Queen) since you can grab it from the yard with Eternal Witness instead of relying on shuffle effects+draw rng
but Oath at least does something when it enters so it's really hard to justify. Maybe for a build that's very reliant on hitting Artifacts or specific Enchantments
Hi guys i just want to ask u something but plz dont get offended :D. I want to play a modern deck but i dont have a huge budget (around 100-200), and in this money there arent a lot of good decks nowadays... I saw the green devotion decklists and i really like the way the decks works (even tho there arent many videos on youtubewith this deck) and also it can be upgraded to a tooth and nail combo later on.. So my question is if the deck is competitive? i mean i know its not a tier 1/2 deck but i want to know if i can win at least some matches with some of the top tier decks? Btw in my local there are decks like infect, bw tokens, 8 racks, merfolk and eldrazi.. I also like the mono green stompy, skred without blood moons and a budgte boogles deck but i think from those the mono green devotion is the best one.. I hope someone will help me. Thanks again!
As with many T2-3 Decks and other Rogue Brews this Deck certainly can be competitive since noone is prepared for it and you will catch people off-guard and experienced Pilots can and will make things happen. Green Devotion has taken a hit thanks to the Eldrazi dominance and following increase in Mainboarded Land Destruction but on the flipside Bloom and Twin are no longer a problem and Control is almost dead. So we got the better half of the trade. With a budget of 200 you can build pretty much every list that's posted in this Thread since it works fine without the full sets of Fetches&Shocks. And as you already said: This deck is HIGHLY flexible and customizable since there's no real archetype that has struck out as being "the best" and it is fun to play. You have a small learning curve in terms of sequencing and especially counting large sums of Mana but aside from that your gameplan is pretty straightforward. So if you like Stompy you'll feel right at home with this deck (Genesis Wave lists in particular)
Since Craterhoof Behemoth and Hornet Queen are making a comeback and Nissa, Voice of Zendikar seems to be alright in our Deck... did anyone consider running Avenger of Zendikar alsongside/instead of Queen? Both cost the same mana and you are trading Flying+Deathtouch for the ability to go wider and bigger plus he synergizes well with Nissa's +1.
But while I was thinking about that, I also considered that the other card I'd want the most is Path to Exile. Has anyone tried a Selesnya version? I think it's what I'll be brewing until I get my hands on a Blood Moon. I have always liked Ghostly Prison too, and meta being more aggro than ever could be the perfect moment to maindeck that card. Thoughts?
I like your list Kalas. Sarkhan with Baloths are strong. I've found Baloths to be great, but traded them out in favor of card draw. Have you found that you tend to have enough cards without the card draw?
I ideally want to hit one of the 7 main Payoff cards (Wave,Command,Wolfbriar) by Turn 4 (so a chance of 77% without counting in Oath/Abundant/Courser). Oath can dig for the Wolfbriars and Courser filters topdecks. If I don't hit one I basically have to work with what's available and you are right that only 5 direct carddraw effects is on the low side and I'd love some more but I had 2/2 Selkies/Baloths before and almost never had the feeling that the Selkies had such a big Impact so I just went with the Baloths and went with the odds. I gotta try 1 or 2 Harmonize though. Might be worth it (and doesn't any Big Mana variant want more carddraw? )

Not Curdbros but I guess it would look somewhat like my current list?
13x Forest
1x Wooded Foothills
1x Mikokoro, Center of the Sea
4x Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
1x Kessig Wolf Run
Creatures ( 22)
4x Arbor Elf
2x Strangleroot Geist
3x Courser of Kruphix
4x Leatherback Baloth
2x Eternal Witness
1x Nylea, God of the Hunt
1x Polukranos, World Eater
4x Genesis Hydra
1x Craterhoof Behemoth
4x Garruk Wildspeaker
2x Sarkhan Vol
Spells (12)
4x Oath of Nissa
4x Utopia Sprawl
2x Fertile Ground
2x Primal Command
This card HAS to be broken in some way
I think that a token heavy approach might be pretty good. Stuff like Wolfbriar Elemental,Nissa, Voice of Zendikar,Xenagos, the Reveler or even Avenger of Zendikar. Hell it could even revitalize the old Elf Combo list
Thing is that you kinda want to play Vessel of Nascency and Traverse the Ulvenwald together because of Delirium and that's a pretty heavy investment slotwise

And there's always Melira, Sylvok Outcast

It has a pretty low Curve with the bulk being 3 drops and ending at 4 CMC for creatures. So with 7 Mana you can hit everything in the Deck with Genesis Wave or get a 3 Token Wolfbriar Elemental(effectively being Wave 4+5). Nylea, God of the Hunt and Polukranos, World Eater complete the Trifecta of 4 CMC Manasinks. Strangleroot Geist and Leatherback Baloth work as the Turn 2 drops and especially Baloth is removal bait at it's finest. As for the rest it's pretty standard fare. Courser of Kruphix as a boltproof Source of pseudo Card Advantage and Eternal Witness gets back your non-pathed Creatures back from the GY as a added bonus to the Genesis Wave/Primal Command Synergy. The Landbase is a bit lighter with only 19 Lands. As for why only 1 Wooded Foothills and Rootbound Crag? I don't have more fetches nor Stomping Grounds .
