So I had an idea that would be really funny. What if we made a transformational sideboard that turned us into a midrange deck after sideboarding? They would take out all their removal, and we could use Tasigur or Geist of saint traft or something. Also to do this, we would maybe have to run snapcaster mage main board instead of sleight of hand? Can someone help me with this I really want to try it out at Fnm
I am looking for your suggestions on a "fun" but potentially competitive deck that holds control and reactive-play characteristics. By fun but competitive, I mean I am not looking to build Tier 1/2 standard, but would still like to be able to take this deck to an FNM without feeling like I could not participate. I am primarily interested in a Control play style, potentially using any combination of colours. It has been suggested to me that there used to be a U/W control, but that didn't perform. Similarly I am told Simic once held a deck, but had similar issues. Is there a chance either of these have a future? I am interested in exploring new options and concepts, especially something that may be a little "out there". I recently came across the "Taking Turns" deck which spiked my interest for the lesser used cards in the format (plus I love awaken as a mechanic). Let me know if you come across anything!
All suggestions will be investigated and thanked.
How about blue moon? It's a UR tempo/control deck that uses vedalken shackles and blood moon. It's a ton of fun to play
How about Eternal Failures. A collection of the worst and most painfully mediocre cards from magic's history. Chimney imp at mythic! Sorrow's Path at rare! Alt-art storm crow! Featuring full-text basic lands!
I think it's the most complicated, but it isn't the hardest format to play. IMO modern is the most difficult format to play competitively in because their are so many decks, and one needs to know what they must do against each of those decks
I just wanted to say that I have built a few decks without instants or sorcery's. one of them is a pure creature deck (slivers) and the other is a nearly pure enchantment deck (2 artifacts). and with 0 cost artifacts it is indeed possible to have a 'no-land' deck.
It's even possible to build a deck with no sources of mana, although these are usually either impossible to use or degenerately broken, no in-between.
He he.... Oops all spells, Manaless dredge. Those decks are insanely broken
Only a Zombie deck could easily generate the recursion necessary to really abuse Anathemancer. Without recursion - and his Unearth is just too costly to be considered - he's probably not worthwhile at only one point of damage per land.
R is a viable splash if perhaps not the best. I've also long had an urge to play Tymmy.
Red is the only splash i haven tried yet, because blackcleave cliffs is too pricey for me to invest into just to try out the splash, but mainly because it doesn't offer any obvious tribal goodies.
The good red cards i can think of are blood moon in the sideboard, which would help vs tron and big mana decks. These are hard matchups in my experience so there's that. Faithless looting also might be good, we have plenty of turn one plays already but it migth be ok. Lightning bolt would have been appealing pre fatal push, but right not it doesn't seem needed anymore.
Maybe a version with both anathemancer and geralf's messenger plus lightning bolt for extra reach damage would be a decent place to start? The main issue is red doesn't offer any ways to get rid of enchantments, which every other splash do.
Is Snapcaster Mage any good in this deck? I have a manabase for grixis delver and the snaps and kind of want to try this archetype out. I've also got inqusition of kozilek
It's similar to the way planechase planes, vanguard, and archenemy are not legal in vintage. The whole point of them is to make the game more fun in the conspiracy/cube draft environment

Now I really want this to actually happen.
Don't forget spoils of the vault. I actually have called it "gems and monster tribal" i.e. Pentad prism gemstone mine lotus bloom...
Jokes aside you should be fine. The prices will tank initially but slowly go back up as a function of time

Thank you. I'll try running it this FNM, maybe give a report on my matchups
