wotc has the market datas. If planechase was successfull, they are going to print another one.
Personally i think that we won't see planechase for a long time because there is no space for it, too many products. -

Cranky posted a message on Planechase Commander? Hint from WotC SurveyPlease god no, Planechase is a nightmare and once the novelty wears off everyone who has ever tried it grows to hate it. Deckbuilding and skill are completely negated and it becomes all about who rolls better and which random plane helps who the most. I collected every deck to acquired every plane as they were released, including promos, and I can say unequivocally that there hasn't been a worse variant format to date.Posted in: The Rumor Mill -

I think Bushmeat Poacher was just a coincidence -

Nah, it needs to be a Squirrel Druid for the meta joke. (for those that don't get it, Waiting in the Weeds was originally going to make Squirrel tokens, but the artist didn't get the memo. At the time it was easier to change a word on the card than commission new art). -

This isn't Barry's Land. Barry's Land added an extra land-type. That was the whole point of Barry's Land. There are too many reasons why Barry's Land will never happen.
That said, we've known this land was coming since PAX Australia a year (or was it two?) ago. I thought it was going to be in BFZ, but glad to see it will be printed and make colorless EDH players rejoice. -

Those aren't necessarily 'infect' cards though. All of those are 'one hit KO' cards. Each of those cards could instead be a Craterfhoof Behemoth, hasted Kessig Cagebreakers, etc. in certain circumstances. OHKO cards exist, and are typically disliked due to having no different feel that a "I win" or "You Lose" card.Quote from Daracaex »Speaking from a competitive standpoint, you are probably correct. From just a game-to-game standpoint, much of the time, you don't see an infect deck, but a normal deck running Blightsteel Colossus or Triumph of the Hordes (or sometimes getting that unblockable 1/1 with some kind of quick power boost to 10), getting these cards unexpectedly and killing players.
Poison as a mechanic is essentially defined as having a secondary life set that you cannot recover, thereby putting more tension on stopping that damage to begin with. Because of the inability to recover from poison, the cards typically are much weaker as a result.
In EDH this is exacerbated by the fact that no one else will be aiding you on this victory path. You will need to deal 10 poison counters per player you expect to win against in this manner, whereas typically you will not need to necessarily do 40 damage per player.
Poison existed before infect, infect was simply the first time it became decently good, on the fact that it also acted as a damage multiplier.Quote from clan_iraq »I can't speak for everyone, but I really hated infect, and on the basis of its design, not the player archetype that uses it. The fact that infect was simply a second life pool and otherwise played mostly identically to wither offended me for how inane a mechanic it was, how no new design space was really opened up with it beyond proliferate, which was a bit forced. Worse, for a mechanic that just made you play the same game with a different name for the arbitrary resource, it was featured mostly on cards that reprinted a previous block with infect stapled onto it.
Because it's an unrecoverable mechanic, I feel it is differentiated from "another life total" to some extant. There will always be somewhere that line is drawn. An enchantment that gains/loses counters and then wins when it reaches some level to an extant could be seen as "an extra life total."
Healing poison counters would literally make Poison no different from a second life total, and remove any uniqueness or tension about it. I hope that design never happens, and I am 100% behind Maro on keeping poison/infect to have more tension as a non-recoverable mechanic.Quote from DarklingScribe »In order for infect to work better I feel as though we need the yang to infect's yin. Perhaps a push-pull mechanic called "purity" that could be the opposite of infect. Just like a +1/+1 counter cancels out a -1/-1 counter, "purity" counters would cancel out infect counters and visa-versa. A creature with purity, when it deals damage to a player instead deals no damage and that creature's controller get purity counters. When a player reaches 10 purity counters, they win the game. I can't begin to guess as to what a creature with the opposite of infect would deal combat damage in the form of (+1/+1 counters on itself?).
Please someone name it something other than "purity", I just got off a 6 hour flight and I can barely think straight.
Purity, as an opposite-poison, could be interesting, but note that by default it is far, FAR, more powerful in multiplayer. In single player it would also overlap significantly with Poison - while they appear different, both essentially say "deal 10 damage to win." This is not overlap you want.
You are far more likely to get a "deliferate" ability, but even that kind of ability is limited in use and quite doubtful. Whereas proliferate adds counters, thus allowing you the design space to build around counters, either positive ones for you or negative ones for an opponent, "deliferating" or removing counters has more limited design space. It would also be busted with the counterspell enchantment. -

I can understand the bellyaching over cards like Blightsteel Colossus, Corrupted Conscience, and Grafted Exoskeleton which allow random OHKOs.
A (reasonably balanced) Infect Commander is not even remotely in the same league as those.
That said, I would *much* rather see a GBU Infect Commander than a GB one- blue brings too much to the Infect Table for me to be happy without it. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

See notes in green above... also worth mentioning... Revolt is an ability word which is more like reminder text, not a keyword and not part of the rules text... cards can be printed with or without ability words.

The change makes the game actually play the way people really play it, and it makes the game richer and deeper. It is a hugely positive change, but yes it has a large negative side effect with respect to the way existing cards interact, that actually makes it HARDER on new players, so the change is in the interest of you, the enfranchised player, at the cost of ‘the newb’.

Please stop calling Timmy stupid. More then 1/3rd of the magic players smarter then you are Timmy, if Timmy can’t handle it then you can’t either. Not even close.

Karn is fair game for Commander 2018.

Printing them with a gold border (as a cube product for example) and making them officially NOT playable in sanctioned tournaments would get around the reserved list. They won't do it because they want to respect the spirit of the promise not just the letter, but anything playable in sanctioned events would violate the reserve list.
