Vissah posted a message on [Primer] InfectSeems pretty interesting for a BG list.Posted in: Aggro & Tempo
Like I said I also been struggling with UG in my store because it is full of midrange. I was in luck yesterday that I drew two favourable matches and won them both but when I got up against another midrange deck full of Path, Push, discard and all the good stuff I knew from the beginning that my chances were very very small.
Anyway I decided to get some cards to finish BG and I been testing it online for a couple games and I noticed that the midrange, full of removal and discard matchups are a lot more positive and easier to win. I am really pleased seeing that. Infect is the only deck that I have (sold all my other decks due to time constrictments) and now I basicly have two different decks but using the same mechanic. I always like playing the same deck to become very good at it and basicly be an expert with it.
Like Zann said Legacy UG Infect can take on anything because it is so efficient in setting up a hand, having acces to the strongest counters in the game and the best and cheapest pump aswell.
My opinion is that UB Infect is the faster deck but it needs a meta that plays other more solitair style decks and combo. WHen your opponent interacts with you a lot you don`t have efficient enough removal, hand setup and not even enough creatures to find new ones fast after you lose them.
I am confident that UG Infect would still struggle a lot even with Probe in a meta like these. Tom Ross also made a BG Infect list about a year ago when the meta was very removal heavy and midrange so I think BG Infect is a good meta call right now. Infect is still a very effective, dangerous and fast strategy that should not be underestimated we only need to adapt to the new meta. If it changes into a faster more aggro and combo style meta UG Infect will shine again.
Anyway these are my 2 cents and I will be rocking my fresh BG Infect deck next FNM. -

Yes, a 1 mana instant Brainstorm and 4 mana sorcery speed Brainstorm are exactly the same thing!
Not even that so much as hearing the words "unban Brainstorm" in sequence.
I guess they should ban Jace's Ingenuity while they're at it, since it's essentially the same thing as Ancestral Recall.
In the kind of deck that runs Jace, yes I'm putting it on brainstorm level. The problem people are having with decent blue decks is enabling them to begin with. To do that you really don't want to unban an overpowered card as much as spread that power across multiple cards unless we want a repeat of dredge, where they unbanned Golgari Grave-Troll, then proceeded to print so many cards that support graveyard strategies the deck just went to crazy town.
I see what you're saying, but Brainstorm isn't banned. It's just hasn't been printed from 8th edition on. They COULD potentially reprint tin standard, but I doubt that. It's one of the best draw spells for a reason.
> Tap for a U
> Cast Brainstorm.
> Looks at hand. Grabs spells that he/she may need and return 2 potentially dead spells.
> Activates Fetch Land.
> Library has been manipulated.
Sensei's Divining Top was banned for that reason, no? Brainstorm would also give a lot of power to Delver of Secrets decks. Do you really want the meta to begin to look like Legacies? 3 Delver decks in betwixt tier 1 and 1.5? This is not meant to be taken in a condescending manner. Just silly replying to your post.
I'm unsure what blue may need, because I don't play the color, but it may be a tough call. They could unban Ponder or Preordain, but didn't those cards give Storm too much power?
Something I've noticed from wizards is that when they ban a card, it seems like they have some kind of card in the pipeline that is meant to act as a replacement. Saheeli Rai + Kiki Jiki Mirror Breaker seemed to be the vision of what WoTC expected would replace Twin, but that hasn't actually happened (except standard is now so broken it has been making some people go into complete rant mode, so can't say they didn't try? Not drawing any parallels here between modern and standard), so I imagine if they think they can fix blue, they wont unban something like Jace. If they don't think they can fix blue with printing something new, then they will look at the ban list and maybe try to unban something. -

mtggoldfish.com has the latest and most accurate data, everything with 2%+ is tier2+Quote from Erich_Zann »Quote from Timba »
I used the same symbols for tiers and turn-kills so this could make a confusion. I wanted to say that Infect, Suicide Bloo (UR Prowess) could easily kill you turn3 and they were tier1-2. Now they are tier3 and slower. Deaths Shadow aggro doesnt kill turn3, even turn4 is fast for them.Quote from Erich_Zann »Quote from Timba »Infect, Suicide Bloo could easily kill you t3 and they were t1-t2. Now they are t3 and slower. Deaths Shadow aggro doesnt kill t3, even t4 isnt common
You still think UG infect is still going to be prevalent in the meta?
I think Infect will be tier2-3 depending on the meta and its much less explosive now.
In your opinion what decks will be tier 1, 1.5? Where do you think 8-rack will fall? - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

I agree with this, however, I also want to point out something else which could possibly lead to Legacy's lack of love these days, but let me reiterate a point you made in your post. The first reason why one would have such a distaste to Legacy is the price of some of Legacy's staples. For example:
Force of Will: $102 (Median)
http://shop.tcgplayer.com/magic/product/show?ProductName=Force of Will&newSearch=false&ProductType=All&IsProductNameExact=true
I'm sorry, but that is ridiculous for a blue staple counter spell. Not as ridiculous as this though:
The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale: $880 (Median)
http://shop.tcgplayer.com/magic/legends/the-tabernacle-at-pendrell-vale
I play mono black pox and I cry myself to sleep every night because of Tabernacle.
Now for the second reason, which is a personal opinion of mine. Local hobby shops do not support the format enough, and what I mean is the thick headedness of some shop owners. There are a number of locals within 10-30 miles of where I reside that support Legacy, however, out of the 10 shops, only two of them allow proxies to be used. One shop allows unlimited proxies which gets the most players, while the other allows up to 15 which brings in about 15-20 people a week. There is this notion among magic players who play legacy that if one wants to play legacy then one most pick up a second mortgage on their home just to play with the "big boys". Is this the mindset of every Legacy player? Absolutely not! But, there are these stubborn people who follow this way of logical thinking and some of them are card shop owners/work at a hobby shop. Also, they don't advertise enough via social media. Word of mouth isn't as good as it used to be. Now that we're in an age of peripherals glued to luminescent glass screens, social activity has gone down a lot. People don't talk as much, but they spend their time on facebook, instgram, snapchat, and their favorite Adult entertainment sites. I feel as though more needs to be done to keep this format alive. Legacy players support their format, but they need to put more effort now a days. One can't expect results if one doesn't commit. That goes with pretty much anything in life.
The third and final factor is that Modern is just a more popular format, and now WotC are supporting it more because of this, which is another point you made already that I'm reiterating. This goes back to the prices of cards for Legacy. The second hand market for legacy cards is, and sorry for my vulgarity, ******* RETARDED!!! Outside of Tarmogoyf, Jace, the Mind Sculptor(Not sure if he's legal, because I don't participate in modern. I just know it's popular.), and Liliana of the Veil, most Modern cards are affordable (Below $100). When I go into a hobby shop and there is an array of MTG players playing MTG, I join in on the fun. I sit down and converse with a majority of them and most of them ask, "Hey, man. What format do you play?". I respond, "I play Legacy.". Their response usually sounds like this, "Oh. That's the format that allows more cards than modern that's really expensive, right?". The second hand value of some of these cards NEEDS to change if we want more people to play Legacy. Leave the expensive cards to Vintage.
