    Kicker without Mana costs.

Have we had spells that could be kicked, without paying mana?

I will just chip in here what I can.

I used to work for The Game Keeper, I got hired on about the time that WOTC bought Game Keeper. [A retail board game store.]

And then, Hasbro bought WOTC soon after.

Then, Hasbro closed all of their retail stores.

I am not sure if this is the offical reason, is part of the offical reason, or what.

But, I heard, that part of the downfall of Hasbro owning Retail stores, came in the fact that Hasbro already signed contracts with other stores, basically saying that they would not compete / lower their prices on product in other, competing stores. Therefore, there is no reason to waste money on their own stores, if they can't make up the overhead.

[Translation :: Hasbro sells Magic at Wal Mart, and they told Wal Mart that they would not sell Magic elsewehre, for cheaper. The price that Walmart offers to you, that is something else.]

So, I am just guessing, that this, or some other reason equates to Hasbro basically selling product at a price lower [Free] than what they entered a contract on, with Walmart.

I'm more inclined to think that WOT-- Hasbro couldn't care less about the storyline. Period.

Frankly, when they cater to players who can't tell the difference between "play" and "put into play", over the (let's face it) veterans, the concept of making books that fit into the storyline no longer makes sense.

Making books of any type for MAGIC makes no sense.

    Magic Encyclopedia Volume 7 anyone?

    Hey guys.

Yes, it has been some time. I've been talking to Xanth. I'm still here, All is relatively fine. Just haven't had the time or money to put towards MAGIC. [Being Unemployed DOES get to you.]

SO. I'm guessing that my fellow Mono Blues have said things of a similar nature. I have not read past this page (going backwards). But I am willing to bet that I share the same sentiment. We have all read the news on M10 updates. Here is an excerpt.

We will now refer to the time when such triggers happen as what it actually is: "at the beginning of the end step."

Meeko will now refer to the time when MAGIC entered the "beginning of the end step".

    Magic 2010.

You ever wonder what would happen, if you synced up Sonic the Hedgehog to the song "Sky" by Sonique?

    I Did.

    Wonder no more.

Not how I wanted it to turn out. However, most of the lyrics tie in perfectly. I knew I couldn't possibly make it go the full 4 minutes. I had some choices to make. I think I made the right choices.

It's also my first real attempt at doing something like this.

It is obvious as I type this deck, that it is not standard. I have been playing since Fifth Edition / Portal and I have cards even older than that. At this point in my life, I don't feel I need to keep up with the game as much as WOTC demands me to be.

This deck is pretty straight forward; Become a prick to your opponent. In fact, after the third or foruth opponent that faced the deck, the overall “prick” factor came out, and I knew I had the name for the deck.

I have never asked if this deck is control. Then again, it is mono blue (what else?) and I think it controls the board, a bit too well. The idea of the deck is solid, even if the record for the deck is not.

Then again, this is the perfect deck to show you “how I roll”.

Prick deck 1.5 (If someone can show me how to use the Deck Tag, would be nice.):

    4 power sink
    4 escape artist
    4 force spike
    4 counterspell
    4 rewind
    4 manta riders
    4 seas claim
    4 propaganda*
    4 metathran soldier
    4 psychic venom

    20 Island

This deck has had a few changes, and I welcome changes that keep the “prick” nature of the deck intact: In fact, I have simplified the deck list by one or two cards to illustrate the main idea of the deck.

1.Slow down spell casting, either mana side, or counter side.
    2.Slow down attacking (Propaganda)
    3.Evasion

*Just a note here for Propaganda I love this card. LOVE IT. I feel it is underrated. The abillity stacks per each copy you have in play, and it is for EACH attacking creature.

Psychic venom and Sea's claim slow down and lock up what your opponent wants to do. After that, counter what can get cast. (Did someone say Prick?)

Unblockable and Flying at will allows you to skip traditional combat altogether.

Clone and Morphling have been in the deck at one time. I feel both cards and cards like it allow a plan B for things that hit the table.

I love the idea of having twiddle in the deck on top of a venomed land. Or a venomed city of brass. Smile

I don't think that card does anything. Creatures already cannot be countered.

umm what does this card do? seems terrible.

It's an enchant creature that gives shroud?!?! ?! ?!:o

Then again, in a Elf Deck, that might not be half bad. Not a new Mechanic, but still, G Sac. a Forrest to give an elf shroud?

Then again, Llanowar Elves might not like that. Something about breaking bones for each twig snapped underfoot as penalty for trespassing. - Or something

Poison without combat damage, i think...

"As aditional cost to play XXXX receive 2 poison counters"
"Target player gets 3 posion counters"
"Get a posion counter: Draw one card. Play this hability only once a turn and only in your unkeep"

    etc etc...

This might could work. Oracle will have to step in with the right wording and template, but I think you might be on to something here.
    City of Brass

But, instead of a Land, make it an Artifact.

Instead of damage, make it a posion counter.

--Are we getting Narcotics in our favorite game? OMG

    Wacky Tobacky 3
    Artifact
Whenever Wacky Tobacky becomes tapped, you recieve a poison counter.
[Hopefully reminder text on posion can leave the game at this point]

it's slightly less than having all 5 pieces of exodia in your opening hand.

But Exodia is in Y... Oh, we are talking about Banding returning? Yeah, slightly less than having Exodia in your Magic Deck.

My original post specifically stated other WOTC games.

What WOTC games have you seen other ""Magic cards"" in ?

Do not insult my thread, simply because you can't follow directions.

    Complete Chaos.

My Disenchants and Counterspells and Unsummons would disagree with you.

Some of the best (durring an actual game) cards in the game are actually Common. (Or, at least, they were at one time.)

    Explanation:

We all know that WOTC makes MAGIC. That's obvious. WOTC also makes other card games. However, if you look closely at some of the cards, you can TELL that it is a Magic card, in disguise.

    I have two examples:

the WOTC game "Hecatomb" was cancelled after only 2 expansions. The link here shows a card from the original base set.

    http://www.wizards.com/hecatomb/ht_autocard.asp?name=surrounded_by_idiots

It's casting cost (Hecatomb stole a LOT from Magic as far as the rules go.) is 2. It's a common card. It is even designated by Red.

But, if you don't see it quite yet, look at the rules text for the card:

    Detroy target relic.

    relic: Noun.
3: a survivor or remnant left after decay, disintegration, or disappearance

Don't see what I mean yet?

    artifact: Noun
1b: something characteristic of or resulting from a particular human institution, period, trend, or individual

(Both from Webster's, bolding however, is mine.)

I do believe we have ourselves a Shatter here.

    ----------------

It gets real fun, once you see Magic cards in games that aren't even CCGs. The next example is my first time ever noticing a Magic card out of it's natural environment.

Guillotine was also produced by WOTC, and is sold as a complete card game.

Below is the best image I can find. (It's a big photo.)

    http://images.funagain.com/photo1/huge/04492.jpg

To the upper right of this picture is the card "Palace Gaurd"

    At the end of the game, his ""abillity"" triggers;

Each Palace Gaurd is worth a number of points equal to the number of Palace Gaurds in your score pile (Including this one).

If you play with older Magic cards, this one should be real easy.

    It's Plague Rats!

Plague Rats's power and toughness are each equal to the number of creatures named Plague Rats in play.

What WOTC games have you seen other ""Magic cards"" in ?

And no, we aren't accepting cards from the game

    "Space: The Convergence"

    http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/feature/438

But, GREAT article none the less.

The question you should be asking is what would Magic look like if lands were like mana in the WoW CCG

    It would be Hecatomb.

    http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ht/welcome

    http://www.wizards.com/hecatomb/hecatomb_demo/hec_demo.asp

    OMG

Yeah, I have two decks. Never played the game ever.

Still amazes me that WOTC tried a Pentagram shaped game, AFTER all the flack they got from MTG. The Game had potential, it did, but, Magic is too good for it's own good, when it comes to WOTC trying to have Magic II.

    http://www.wizards.com/hecatomb/ht_autocard.asp?name=surrounded_by_idiots

    Hey look! It's Shatter!

(IIRC, given how Hecatomb worked, its for the same cost. The card would read as RR in Magic.)

I still get boxes of new sets. These packs are for fun, to take a gamble. (The feeling of pulling a good rare out of one of these >>>> a booster)

Glad to see urzassedatives jumpping in here as a "civvie" Wink .

Yeah, I think we can at least agree, regardless how "gravity" ends up, it is a definite psychological pull.

What I still want to know, is what lead time did Wotc have on this? I mean, consider that they had to get the actual display boxes built, and the pack wrapers printed, AND the strategy card mix. (Trust me, the strategy card will never leave the gravity pack. --It will change what is ON the card, but we will ALWAYS get such a card in these packs.)

Did Wotc start this before the economic recession? If they didn't, think about what that means down the road. -- That is to say, WOTC is not at full power regarding the time from Idea --- Consumer Purchse. Will be interesting to see how else they play with this ""Mechanic"".

    A Metagame, before the Metagame.

If you will excuse me now, I think my brain just exploded.
