SardoNespa posted a message on So SICK of planeswalkers alreadyI get that they obviously wanted to dump a ton of Planeswalkers into the game with WAR. What they forgot was to add in just as many opportunities for anti-Planeswalker options - something like Gates Ablaze, or Cry the Carnium, or Cleansing Nova that targets Planeswalkers. Basically Planeswalker wiping spells, just as easy to attain and similar cost to play as the Planeswalkers themselves. Cards that deactivate Planeswalker abilities. Some "paper" to the "rock" that are Planeswalkers in this rock-paper-scissors game. I mean, PWs completely unbalance the game as it is. Its like having another opponent, but comes with inate abilities AND the ability to cast spells without spending mana. Did WotC playtest any of this at all?Posted in: MTG Arena -

AlecPyron posted a message on Your Critics and Hopes with MTG ArenaAfter all this time playing Arena and seeing how it is evolving, it's getting better, but it's not serving the real purpose for customers, new audience, and ultimately shareholders. They want a bigger stack from twitch/mobile audience, but I don't see Arena serving this purpose. At the same time it's trying to make MTGO crowd not unhappy by making it as close as MTG as possible while trying to be light and friendly to the general public. Again, it will failure at both fronts. At best it's just a compromise. However, we have that already and it's MTGO.Posted in: MTG Arena
I think the best they can do is those duel games. Maybe they should make a new IP that may have some aspects of MTG Lore (like the idea of players being Planeswalkers) with new rules better adapted to mobile and streaming gaming that also can be translated to paper if they wanted to. It would hit two birds with two stones: increase the brand name for a bigger and younger audience and also increase the digital presence in a meaningful way. They could leave the Avenger style writing to that as well.
MTG is clearly not cut for the digital era IMO. MTG is in its own bubble and maybe it should stay that way. MTG isn't for everybody and never will be. Trying to push it to a wider audience just dilute its own special charm. Arena could just be a proper mobile/freemium game without trying to translate the paper experience 100%. It's not suitable to anybody. People are just forced to use MTGO because either they don't have better option or the need a tool for grinding. MTGO is perfect fine as is. Arena is just a more streamlined MTGO experience without any identity of its own. It's try to be HS with bad mobile micro transactions and MTGO style events. -

This is a really bad idea. I liked having Masterpieces in a set. This is just wrong, and neither art nor the frames are really outstanding. -

Starting with the Battle for Zendikar prerelease, we will no longer be using seeded packs. You will get six Battle for Zendikar boosters along with a stamped preview card that can be any rare or mythic rare from the set. This change was made based on a lot feedback from all of you. -

Why would they do this?
Because frankly WotC likes to keep doing things players dislike and complain about. They don’t learn from the past no matter how many times they claim they do.
You think at this point if a block involves factions, they’d have prerelease be the factions precon decks plus 3 boosters to allow some variance between people playing the same faction, but keep with the factions themes.
Hell during Gatecrash prerelease i wanted to play Boros, but they had no more of their guild kits and ended up with a Simic one...that luckly had so much good Boros pulls i was still able to play Boros. And another guy ended up playing Simic with a Gruul kit.
Why they try and keep up with draft when factions are involved is beyond me. -

Havrekjex posted a message on Prerelease kits will have a seeded boosterSourcePosted in: The Rumor Mill
Prerelease kits will contain:
- 5 regular Guilds of Ravnica booster packs
- One seeded booster pack: composed entirely of cards relevant to that player’s guild
- 1 randomized, date stamped foil promo card, drawn from any rare or mythic in the set
I can see how this feeds nicely into the whole flavour/player identity thing where you are supposed to pick your favourite guild and feel like you´re using the game to express yourself, but I´m really not a big fan of seeded packs.
The reason is that I feel that it increases variance between sealed pools, where the colours of your seeded pack matches up poorly against the remaining five packs plus promo, while the person next to you could happen to get most of their good stuff in the correct colors. You are basically asked to force two of your colors, and that´s not how you are supposed to play sealed. I know that I´m not being enough casual minded here, but still, it´s basically teaching players to do it wrong, and an increased variance between sealed pools does not make for a good event.

This seems quite odd
First off these shouldnt be called Masterpieces since you cant get them in booster packs.
They are nothing but special edition promo cards sold only by Hasbro for a hefty price.
If this limited run of special edition packs only sold by Hasbro in their toy shop is the ONLY way to get such cards, it just seems like a giant tease and a gigantic slap in the face.
Not pleased by this new "marketing" "money making" technique -

Impossible posted a message on Shocklands in GRN - Pax presentationPosted in: The Rumor Mill
Good. Dual lands that you need to play the game shouldn't be over $10 a piece. WotC can reprint them until they're cents and I'll still be happy. I can always use more Shocklands.Quote from Melkor »Watch, this set will sell like hotcakes, and then that is that for shocks. The prices haven't moved in years, still a huge supply, we haven't absorbed RtR. Now in 6 years when they go back again, it won't be worth it to print these. They are done being worth a pack. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

They've said lots of things in a general way. They have no idea what they're going to do. They'd have to create a new format since Kaladesh is as far back as what they've programmed. Arena modern? No thanks.
I hope players who don't have LGSs near them consider grinding instead of paying to play this game. They shouldn't be rewarded for this cheap, Hearthstone imitating, clunky, poorly planned mtg product.
The animations are nice sure, BUT many of them are clunky and poorly timed and have been for multiple releases. They don't seem to care to polish them.
Tapping land is horrible. HORRIBLE. Look at an MTGO stream and how fast that old OLD software taps lands then look at Arena tapping, which is slow and heavy, and tell me they've done a great job. They lessened the 'whack a mole' but didn't get rid of it completely. Autotap should be removed from the game it's trash and players need to learn to play around it (tap partials then let it do the rest when you are color safe). Tapping lands, the most basic thing in MTG is clunky and poorly done. Apply that to the rest of the game.
Currently you buy packs to create a 'collection' that you cannot trade, sell, or dust to move forward. It's a money grab to not let you manipulate or 'own' your collection. Worst decision ever. All they need is an auction house and they'd make 10x the money they're planning to make off this cheaply developed game. They still don't have a plan for 5th copies of cards!!!!!!! So buying packs you get a 5th copy and the old system of a 'vault' progress is still there but HIDDEN. HIDDEN FROM VIEW!!!! Vault progress was a lame system but hiding it without a solution at this point?? Open beta without even a proposed solution to this??? Just wow.
I can't believe they think it's time for open beta. Please don't invest cash in this game. Just grind it if you like it people. Matchmaking in Bo1 is manipulated so you only play decks your deck is 'rated' the same as. What's this rating system you ask? No one knows they won't say. Just be sure to know you will play mirror matches and the same 2-3 types of decks they've 'rated' based on ???. That's the only free play mode of the game. With the crap timer you could PAY to play Bo3 but good luck there as you can get roped (time wasters taking forever with EVERY TURN) and have what should be a max 40 Bo3 into hours. That you paid to play. They still don't have a solution for NoF chaining without a win con since you can't call a judge you get to sit there while they chain without being able to win.
Awesome right?

Pushed this block UR and BG big time. They'd better print some GY hate in this block if they've 'learned their lessons'.

Please don't buy this trash product. It will not be worth more.
It will not be collectible.
It is a distraction from a company that needs to be getting back on course and not jumping the shark.

WotC, proving that instead of making things better, we can keep sticking it to you.

Thanks Maro and team.
They still haven't sworn off all this philosophy. It's why we're still seeing the pushed cards and why they still resist ban hammering them. They like to say 'lesson learned' but it looks more like 'lesson interpreted the way we want to'.
Promos out then in, rotation shortened then walked back, don't play on Friday play when we want you to, 40+ dollar cards, Kaladesh (nuff said), BaB disaster, it's like they're trying to screw themselves but really they're just bumbling while trying to make more money for the Hasbro overlords. Sometimes you have to do things better (the traditional way) to make more money not just push out more product. This is one of those cases.

All I did was mention a big company that is no longer that people would be familiar with. Joining them in history type comment.
I did not compare anything else. I even specified in my last sentence, 'WotC is the victim of share holder pressure...'
WotC is under pressure to make more money. The changes they've implemented, if participation is any indicator, have done the opposite. So they're trying new things. That's all.

Time to take a break is right.
I'm with koreandog on this too, go back to the way it way and make it a cool value card that is in the set.
Stores can just mark a preorder and take those boxes for themselves and pure profit off the BaB. BS.

This is what the result right now is whether that's what they intended or not. Thus the 'I got mine, suck it'.
Yatsufusa has it right, the corporate is really what has screwed us, I suppose I had been hoping these last few years that WotC might see the error of their ways and convince HASBRO that the right way to cash is the way it's always been. But corporate greed only leads to downgrades in product and increase in profit or death. Toys R Us and KayBee were the victims of wall street buy and burn. WotC is the victim of share holder pressure but they're on the road to join TRU from their own failed efforts to please the masters and 'innovate'.
Arena could have been SO much more than skinnerware.
