We've been discussing about the best 1 mana drop for our deck and Cursecatcher and Spell Pierce are clearly the common choices. Although I personally think we need a 1 drop creature (to improve our clock and board presence), whats ur thoughts about Chalice of the Void? I sometimes feel like we need some free wins and Chalice of the Void would give us that. Also modern is more than ever a high mana intensity format, flooded with 1 mana cards, which is the perfect environment for a turn 2 Chalice.
What do you guys think about going back to Gut Shot SB? Humans is definatelly the deck to beat and Affinity and Elves are still our archenemies. I'm playing 2 Gut Shots in my sideboard and it's been doing VERY well (beyong my expectations rly).
The problem is that the lack of a 1-drop creature decreases a lot our clock. Casting a 1-drop creature by turn 1 or 2 may represent more than 5 points of damage during the course of the game. I think even Nikachu isn't going to stick with his original list. Btw Rothgar13's list seems much more powerful imo (he already got four 5-0s in the current friendly league).
I've tried a lot of different lists without Cursecatcher (Nikachu's included). My conclusion is that we shouldn't play Merfolk without a 1-drop creature. Our deck become SO MUCH slower. On the other hand, I'm not sure if the 1-drop should be Cursecatcher or another fish (Nikachu is trying Tideshaper Mystic)...
Whats ur thoughts about Cursecatcher in this meta? Should we still be playing it? Cursecatcher has always been an auto include to me but I started to think it may not be correct after Nikachu and Mhayashi stopped running it in their 75s.
All I can say is Merfolk Trickster and Damping Sphere are real beasts! Both cards fit perfectly in our game plan. Wish I had 1 more Damping Sphere post board (my only loss was against Ad Nauseam).
Where can I find a good sidebord guide for the curtent meta? I had some trouble today trying to figure out what to side out against Mardu Pyromancer and Jund.
What do you guys think about splashing white in this new DS meta? Ive been struggling against it since I started playing merfolk but not it sounds very appealing to me. We would have acess to path, RIP and blessed aliance, which are huge against DS and many other decks in the field, like burn, BGx, dredge. Not to mention stony silence to beat affinity, ad nauseam and eldrazitron. Also, since the fourth master of waveves is being cut off from the lists, seachrome coast doesnt hurt that much our mana base.
Hello, guys. Where can I find a good sideboard guide for the current metagame? Most of the matches I know what to side in... but I'm having serious problems to decide which cards should I side out.
- Why most of the fishy players still run 4 Harbinger of the Tides MB instead of 2 Harbinger of the Tides + 2 Tidebinder Mage (or 3/1). I can only think about 1 match where Harbinger really overcomes Tidebinder, which is Affinity, and to be honest this is a terrible match before SB anyway.
- Kira, Great Glass-Spinner really worths? She shines against heavy spot removals decks (Jund, UWR Nahiri, Grixis control). However, all these decks have MB answers (or will bring them after SB no matter what you play Kira or not) against her. Why not playing Vendilion Clique? Think about for a while... Clique is better against Affinity and Infect (a flash 3/1 flyer is enough), a monster against combo decks (Storm, Ad Nauseam, Scapeshift, etc) and can be more useful against control decks (making UWR Nahiri discards a sweeper or Nahiri itself is huge).
Thanks y'all!

Guys, what about the new Comparative Analysis? Of course it's not a Treasure Cruise, but its surge cost is compared to Esper Charm (2U, draw two cards, instant speed). If adding some "free cost" spells like mutagenic growth (interacts with the new Mage) and gut shot, the surge cost isn't hard to achieve. Does it worth a try?

Some questions:
- Isn't 4 Hurkyl's recall VERY narrow? Aren't Gut Shot, Echoing Truth and and Dismember better choices?
