i doubt that they will make "superfriends" a playable archtype in standard. it would slow down the pace of the game and usually thats somethn they at least try to avoid.
Esper control is already flirting with Superfriends status. If they make the planeswalkers in this set so weak that only 1 or 2 out of 36 are standard-playable, players will be outraged. You can’t sell a set with the promise of a million planeswalkers and then make them all suck. At that point, you simply don’t make the planeswalker set.
Agreed. I think what they may do, even if some will dislike it, is let this standard pretty much be "superfriends" for a while, though obviously with a couple of answers. Then in subsequent sets release removal which doesn't seem incredibly relevant to that set, but trashes walkers. A bit like we got a few vehicle removal spells after vehicles had their reign Infernal reckoning,Smelt for instance, but probably not wait so long..
Ah okay, so basically if it's his turn, as the controller of Grave Betrayal, I'll get his creature as my trigger goes on last and thus resolves first right? Vice versa if it's my turn?
What happens when neither of us is the active player, in a multiplayer EDH game for instance?
Quick one, if I have Grave Betrayal out and my opponent has Shirei, Shizo's caretaker out, when a creature with power 1 or less dies, who gets it at the beginning of the next end step? I assume it might make a difference on who's turn it is?
I mean for me decks with intentional infinite combos who somewhat plan to look for them are never quite casual, they'd be beyond "casually cruel". For me that involves control, stax, heavy discard etc. But not that well-tuned, or built in such a way that maybe the pilot doesn't benefit as much as they probably should do, even if they are successful in making it a slog for opponents.
Aye Maddening Imp is great. I had it in my second ever EDH deck Doran, the Siege Tower just because I found it so unique, got cut in the end, but it'll find a place elsewhere in future.
If you're pretty set on some sort of Golgari or Rakdos colours Commander that could work with a hoard of rats then...
Golgari
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord could work, gets big due to your graveyard being full of rats and with a few rats out they become quite good sacrifice targets for him.
Meren of Clan Nel Toth Always does the same thing really, but since your rats are 3cmc, it will be easy to acquire the experience to get one back each turn, albeit she'd probably draw too much hate for something casual.
Savra, Queen of the Golgari A lot of black rats and some sacrifice outlets means you can keep the board clear while hopefully putting enough rats into play with some ramp/draw
Rakdos wise, for me it would have to be..
Judith, the Scourge Diva. Gives your rats a little boost and means you can pick off certain targets when they don't get through
or
Garna, the Bloodflame, lets you keep your army in hand after a wipe (well..if you don't play against many control players at least) and when she's out gives them haste.
Right so lets say we have a PW out and we turn it into a creature, in my specific scenario it gets Liquimetal Coating to an artifact and Karn, Silver Golem, turns it into a creature. We then grant it persist (though undying would be the same really) via Cauldron of Souls.
If I now Ult that walker (or its hit with removal), does it go to the graveyard and come back with a -1/-1 counter (but not be a creature or artifact any more)...and I assume its usual base loyalty?
I always try and run generals I don't see others playing with locally, so thought Horobi, death's wail would be interesting. The idea is to clear the board and steal the choicest corpses.
I've categories the cards main functions in the deck though obviously some will overlap in their functionality, staff of nin being both a source of card draw and a trigger for Horobi for instance.
Wanting a critique before I get this in paper. Obviously it's pretty casual and I just like playing big flashy cards, my main concern though is my average cmc is high (3.86), do I have enough ramp/card draw into ramp, to cope with it? Or do I need to cut some big boys (suggestions welcome) for more card draw/ramp or cheaper alternatives of the same ability.
Something to stick into Nath though it could run its own discard deck very well, didn't want to make it too low cmc..

Whenever an opponent discards a creature card, you may pay X, where X is that cards CMC. If you do, put that creature onto the battlefield under your control.
Depends what your group finds "fun" really, but for me personally I like a bit of chaos but not so much that turns end up being long and complex due to too many layers of chaotic enchantments, if that makes sense. So with that in mind..
Forced combat is always interesting, with that in mind..
not sure if any other commanders have that type of effect, possibly, I just know of them.
Diaochan always makes things quite political and stops anyone running away with the game creatures wise, remember any opponent makes a choice, doesn't have to be the one that you just destroyed a creature. Diaochan, Artful Beauty

cheers for the explanation.
