Artscrafter posted a message on Do curse enchantments target a player? Please helpIt's worth pointing out that Auras only target something when they are cast. If you manage to get an Aura onto the battlefield without casting it and the effect that does this doesn't instruct you to attach it to a specific player or object (as, say, Curse of Misfortunes does), you put it onto the battlefield attached to your choice of any player or object it could legally be attached to. This action does not target and would not be affected by Grip of Chaos. This is true of any Aura, not just Curses.Posted in: Magic Rulings
Examples of how this could happen include things like returning Curse of the Bloody Tome from your graveyard to the battlefield using Sun Titan's triggered ability, having one return to the battlefield as a result of a Banishing Light leaving the battlefield, or putting one onto the battlefield from your library due to Genesis Wave. -

Pokken posted a message on Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash HatebearsAt 4 CMC I think treasure keeper has a really tough sell. Generally my feeling is things that provide raw card advantage are not particularly good in this deck unless they are super cheap or provide another role, or both (e.g. Land Tax). Keeper is just too random and expensive. Solemn Simulacrum would be a much stronger play and I don't have room for that.Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
Getting Curio (ANNNND Oblivion Stone) is a really compelling argument for Trophy Mage -- I'll probably try one out. Peacekeeper and Hushwing Gryff are both iffy enough I could see cutting them. Peacekeeper's in general been just bad lately. Might be better off progressing our gameplan. -

I have a feeling Tamiyo only declined because they already had Liliana joining and wanted to drag this ***** out as long as possible.
Oh so they didn't want to use a planeswalker so was so popular they forced her into two other colors just to give her a card?
Sorry Tamiyo despite the little lore she had gotten, she is an extremely popular character. But they esblished her as an explorer and scholar and not a fighter. The only reason she even helped in SoI was because Jace pulled her in.
I don't trust the creative team with anything at this point, frankly. Have you read the storyline articles on the website lately? They'd get a solid C- in a 10th grade creative writing class.
As someone with a creative writing degree and who has been in several workshops with other higher educated writers, that is hyperbole. I won't say that that the are Rowling or Martin (who is besides them?) at writing itself, but the storyline is sold, characters are actually getting some development and they have some of the best world building I've seen in games, add in they make a new world every year and not just one world for everything.
Could it be better? Sure, but I'm also thinking of this as a card game story, written by a group of people who are also working with the designs to mesh ideas, that is being written like a comic book (episodic) and not one author writing their own universe. -

JCaleb posted a message on Modern Masters 2017 Mythic Cycle PredictionsPosted in: SpeculationQuote from Havrekjex »There is absolutely no way they`re printing Snapcaster Mage at rare after bumping Tarmogoyf and Confidant and Clique to mythic. No way, forget about it instead of setting yourself up for disappointment. Should it be rare? Sure. Will it? Hell no. I`ll take anyone`s bet on eating a basic Island on camera if it`s printed as a rare. I also think Ancestral Vision will be mythic if it`s in the set, drawing three for U and mimicing a P9 card certainly makes it justifiable.
Damnation, on the other hand... if they dare to print a four mana Wrath at mythic solely because they let its price get out of hand in the first place, I`ll rage.
Both your lists seem a little bit optimistic. There will be Comet Storms. That Mycosynth Lattice as a "wtf mythic" makes your list look a lot more realistic. Omniscience isn`t a Modern card afaik, so it would be a weird inclusion.
Liliana of the Veil means no Tarmogoyf. I repeat, no Tarmogoyf. If they are both in, the remaining 247 cards would be horrible, as they actually do have to balance out the EV.
Edit: I haven`t fleshed out a list yet, but my optimistic prediction for the chase mythics is:
Noble Hierarch
Voice of Resurgence
Liliana of the Veil
Snapcaster Mage
Linvala, Keeper of Silence
Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
WIth that list of valuables plus Damnation at rare, the last 9 mythics should range between $8 and $1.50, distributed evenly between flavourful, Modern relevant inclusions and wtf mythics (stupid stuff like Darksteel Forge, Eternity Vessel or whatever).
the difference between the rarity shift of Tarmogoyf, Confidant and Clique to mythic and a possible shift of snappy is that the former 3 cards were printed originally when mythic rarity wasn't present and they probably would be mythic from the beginning if the rariry was present. Snappy in contrast was a rare when mythic alredy existed, the same way Noble Hierarch was rare and was kept rare in MM even if it was quite pricey.
This set (like alla Masters) main purpose is to reprint cards and increase the quantity on the market so that more people can play with them, Hierarch was not bumped even if it was high priced beause people tend to play with 3-4 of them and having him in low quantity (due to mythic) would only increase the demand but not the supply. The same can be applied to snappy, so I think that he will be kept in the rare slot. -

ThyLordQ posted a message on Is Ashiok an aetherborn?Posted in: SpeculationQuote from norsedt »Ashiok literally has the same skin and anatomy as that aetherborn concept art, tI the point where if we were shown that art out of context, 100% of people would think that it's Ashiok
Its not even supposed to be ambiguous
Given the Aetherborn don't have ears, fingernails, humanoid lips, or horns, and that Ashiok doesn't have skin like broken marble, and glowing segments of Aetherial energy (the blue bits) maybe it's not as unambiguous as you think? -

Codex posted a message on Magic's newest "player": Martin Shkreli. Good for the reserved list case?I used to seriously stress about the price of magic until I realized that when you pay for cards, you're paying for their tournament legality. I'm never going to play in a non-limited tournament, so there's no reason for me to buy real cards. I do maintain a cube and a couple EDH decks to play with my friends, and anything more than a few dollars I proxy. It isn't difficult at all to print high quality proxies in your own home. For the purposes of playing at the kitchen table, a proxy in a sleeve is no different than a real black lotus. I highly recommend implementing proxies with your friendly matches.Posted in: Magic General -

theMarc posted a message on Shadows Over Innistrad April 2016Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from kalkris »Look, all I want from you is either documented, explicit proof to the contrary of what I am positing (and I wasn't even positing it as a primary thesis!) - that is to say, Avacyn is Nahiri - or the admission that you don't have it, followed by an apology (from a professional standpoint, even if you don't agree with me, you're better off doing so since you're supposed to be the better person, as a moderator). As to the proof, I don't mind if it is just the story articles that say it, as long as they're explicit enough in their answer to my question. Could be a question answered on Doug Beyer's tumblr. Could even be MaRo's tumblr, since he at least knows a little about storyline. But it needs to be concrete.
No it doesn't. Because that theory is asinine, and Jay13x has already pointed out 3 reasons why it's just impossible. If the Magic creative team addressed every single fanwank theory about the lore, they'd never be able to get anything else done. We also don't have explicit confirmation from them that Jace is made of flesh rather than cheese, that the people of Innistrad are held to the ground via gravity, not earthen fairies, or that Lord Windgrace has no blood relation to Grumpycat. Because WotC has enough faith in our intelligence that we don't need explicit confirmation of obvious truths.
I'd say something to the effect of "absence of proof is not proof of absence", but there isn't even an absence of proof. You're just being unreasonably obstinate, refusing to see any evidence against your theory short of the Word of God. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Somebody posted the code " SparkleDruid" on reddit right now - the game showed a success message when trying to redeem it, but I got nothing so far.

Also, to use facts instead of speculation: the image used is from sebastian horoszko (and does definitley not depict Sorin or Vivien), while it's attributed to Brandon Kitkouski, who didn't do any magic art since about 2012 (if i didn't miss something here).

The 8 card packs of arena have no land slot, so you don't get any guildgates from packs. New accounts come with a playset of all the guildgates, but since your's existed befor RNA release (I suppose), you only got the GRN ones.
It's not a problem if you draft a bit, but otherwise you might have to spend wildcards on them.
The exact implementation wasn't specified, but they stated they use two randomized instances of the same deck to determine two independent starting hands, not draw 14 cards of the same one. Obviously, there seems to be some more tampering going on, but as long as they're not blatantly lying (which I doubt), there is at least no reinserting.
