This sounds like it can't be a feasible business plan at all... How Suspicious...
Anyway, this topic definitely belongs in baseless speculation (also the title is quite clickbaity)

Well, I guess that makes including the hondens in Arena's latest Historic Anthology seem a lot less random

I like this kind of lighthearted, slightly silly flavor, as long as it's not overdone.
Not a fan of armored house dogs wearing capes, but this is nice. It's on the same level as Affectionate Indrik and I'm completely fine with that.

one of the Mythic is Ugin
It's not, they talked about six reprints in addition to the six planeswalkers of the set.

Are you sure that is a showcase card? I believe it is a borderless card. Correct me if Im wrong.
Correct, the showcase cards are the planeswalkers and for each of them one rare, uncommon, common and basic land with the planeswalker's special border (at least for the five monocolor walkers, I guess Ugin stands alone). Chandra's frame for example is the one that's also used for her spellbook cards.

Hmm...behemoth-sized...not just oversized. Almost betting they're triple the size of a normal card and will take up the entire top of the box.

Initially I thought so too, but with all the talk about additional value and statements like " even players who don't necessarily want fancy and shiny are excited to open cards like this, because of their tradability" it would be beyond ridiculous if they just added something that is playable absolutely nowhere and holds no actual value whatsoever.
After all, they discontinued the oversized commander cards because nobody really wanted them.

On the other hand, that whole "we won't tell you what exactly, but trust us, we're adding a huge amount of value" looks like they are overcompensating in advance by hyping to the max because they might know it's not that great... but we'll have to see.

Okay great. A lot do that. Most dont. Wotc exploits that for profit. Cant really dispute that

I'd hardly call offering a product for which there is obviously demand exploiting - it's just economics 101.
They're overdoing it, but that mostly hurts long-time interest in their own product imo. If there is a new couple of secret lairs every other month, most people that would otherwise love to collect such shiny special cards will just get tired and stop buying those.

The whole issue about circumventing stores is another can of worms - I don't think it is that big of a problem as long as they limit it to exclusive specials. Yes, it sucks that the spiritual predecessor of this product was a bonus for stores and this is kinda the opposite, but it doesn't hurt when we look at it individually. It does send a certain sign though and if they're testing the waters for moving more products to their own distribution platform, that becomes worrying, but we'll have to see if they go further down that route...

Do wotc actually want potential buyers to fatigue of novelty products like secret lairs? I can not figure why they would, but it seems they work hard for it...
Are they really so desperate for short-term profits?

Double sided keywords sounds... nuts. I'm not sure how to process this in my brain.
I guess it`s a punch-out card like the amonkhet ones, with markers that have one keyword on each side to give them as counters to your creatures for the announced build-your-own-monster mechanic.

    1) The Snarespinner Riot interaction sounds like a bug. Bugs happen. Report it and move on.

Given the general ignorance of Henrick's complaints, a blightbeetle or something similar on the battlefield that he did not consider seems more likely than an actual bug...

If it said "another red source" then he'd never deal more damage with buffs - i.e. if he IS a 4/4, and you give this guy a buff like +2/+0, he'll only deal 6, instead of 8. He's actually better with the current templating.

It's plus 2 though, not double damage, so he doesn't synergize with power buffs anyway.
