The Mirran 'Suns' are clusters of mana that were jettisoned from Mirrodin's Core. There's not really much else to say about them, we don't know a lot about how the giant ball of mana in Mirrodin's core works, other than it jettisoned five colored mana balls over the course of a couple hundred years.

I think in Fifth Dawn Memnarch or Karn mentioned that they were an effect of the Plane destabilizing due to Karn not being there.
I just finished Fifth Dawn today, actually, and it's never mentioned. It's a fine supposition, and it might have been mentioned in Darksteel and I just missed it, but I don't think it's ever explicitly stated. Maybe implied.

Really now? I could have sworn it was brought up during the climax, by either Memmnarch or Karn when they were explaining why Memmnarch needed a planeswalker's spark to steal.

Something I was wondering about that I didn't see brought up (unless I missed it).

What if Amonkhet's trials are actually attempts to make any dormant planeswalker sparks ignite? Only a select few make it through, and they sound pretty brutal, conditions that might be fertile soil for planeswalker ignition.

Also, if they saw Bolas as a god, they might think it's a gift from him and be beholden to him, so he has a group of worshipping planeswalkers he helped create/ignite.

It could also be something that comes from pre-mending. Bolas senses someone with a spark on a plane he rules? Kidnap them and dump them on Amonkhet and see if they ignite.

Well, it is really hard to be as terrible as The Eldrazi Arc was. In retrospect they should never have chosen the Eldrazi as the Gatewatch's first major opponents, and certainly should not have had more Eldrazi for the Gatewatch's second outing. With Kaladesh things have been quite a bit better though, having actual opponents for the Gatewatch to face makes things a little more dynamic and allows them to do something other than "hack away at endless faceless Eldrazi."

One thing they really need to do to improve things however is have the Short Stories finish before the final spoiler list comes out that way the "major events" can be spoiled as cards with the short stories and things like Pia being still alive don't get spoiled by her card showing up before she shows up in the story itself.

What are you meaning about this? Seems pretty clear that Karn made Mirrodin in already existing space,as oppose to creating a space within the blind eternities, which helped keep it stable.

I went to the comment they are sourcing it and the source implies he isn't 100% sure, see the other quote in my last post. Karn using a pre-formed plane is a guess he(the writer of the mirrodin block) is making in response to someone asking about Blinkmoths, he may not have the full authority to say exactly how Karn crafted Argentum(Mirrodin) though.

    From the wiki;

Karn created the fabric of the world itself; but, the space it occupies existed prior to his creation. He chose to transform the empty plane rather than attempt to create a fully artificial world.-Will McDermott

Which means Amonkhet might have already been a plane or "free space" that helps keep it stable.

Having gone and read the wiki's source on that, I don't think that is a fully formed idea.

I believe Karn created the fabric of the world itself, but the blinkmoths were either already there (in a relatively unformed plane) or he imported them from somewhere else. They were the only organic creatures on the world before Memnarch began bringing lifeforms in from other planes. My guess is that Karn (knowing that manufactured planes have a limited lifespan, transformed an existing (and nearly desolate) plane for his home, taking great care not to upset the balance of the blinkmoth's existence.

I hope that Maro clarifies exactly what effect the Mending had on artificial planes with this next block, even just a hand wave of "Oh it stabilized artificial planes so they won't collapse any further than they already have" would be a nice thing. Eh heck with it I will tweet at Maro see if he gives some clarification.

You're absolutely right about Amonkhet though. We don't know Bola's relationship with the plane. We know it's ruled by him, but we don't know anything about the people there. Even if they do want to be saved from his clutches, it doesn't change the fact that Amonkhet is Bolas's home turf.
I think it's more likely that they actually like Bolas. Wouldn't that be a culture shock?

This seems more likely with the latest story and Liliana saying that Amonkhet isn't just ruled by Bolas. He created it before The Mending.

Have they ever said what is going on with Created Planes post mending in regards to them self destructing? Did the mending stabilize them all?

Overall Kaladesh was quite a fun ride, having the Gatewatch face enemies that do this thing, talking and actually having character as opposed to Generic Lovecraft-lite tentacle beasts. Pia and Yaheenei were fun to have around and the Reverse "super long lifespan" that most fantasy species have being reversed with Aetherborn was one of the better things WOTC has done in a long time.

Amonkhet being created by Nicol is interesting, one of the Demons that Liliana is bound too is also there. I wonder if that Demon is a natural one or one created by Nicol. The former would make for a very interesting situation as it likely would not want Nicol's rule to last forever.

Excuse me, excuse me, why does a planeswalker need a planar portal?

Well, Nicol Bolas said that he Ruled 50% of the planes in the multiverse (don't ask me how you can rule half of infinity, ask the 30,000 year old god-dragon who made this claim) Theoretically pre-mending he presumably used the Infinite Consortium or something along those lines in order to trade among his holdings and now that planeswalkers can not do that as easily he needs something to keep his empires' trade going.

Proof? I've never heard this before and that is interesting.

I want to say in one of the Timespiral Novels, He did in the very least speak of worlds that he ruled there so the same theory applies even if the number of worlds isn't as large and he tried to recruit Radha, Heir to Keld to become a Gladiator on one of his worlds.

Gearhulk on the other hand, is much mis-understood in my opinion. Yes, there are times that it whiffs, but by being fairly aggressive, it becomes a moot point for the opponent to either risk taking damage or give you cards to finish them off. Many times have I managed to get an opponent to single digit life, played a Gearhulk, have them decide they can't take damage and then give me two or three burn spells to kill them anyway. Plus, you only need one big hit to get people to start letting you draw more regularly. Even if you do bin a couple of 1-2 drop spells, that's more spells in the yard for Reveler. Again, I've had several turn 6s where I drop a Gearhulk, have them take minimal damage, plus Chandra, and drop a Reveler for 2 that they just allowed me to get the discount on. The trick with it is not to see it as a big damage engine, more of a 6/6 body with deck filtering.

Hmm... I'm almost convinced, actually. With both Reveler and Dark-Dwellers in the deck, getting more spells into graveyard is definitely a plus, and it's true that the decision on Combustible Gearhulk is a lot more difficult when you've been burned for 6+ turns and hitting a Reveler would actually kill you. I guess I'll have to go grab me a couple of red hulks then. :p

Having played with the Gearhulk in Magic Duels, I have come to think it can be very underrated, 3 or 4 damage is all you need sometimes to push an opponent into range for your other burn spells to finish them off.

So the 15 year old daughter of two people who are pro-consulate is a renown sky pirate and has been one for years? WotC needs to learn them some time framing.

Lets just assume she is lying about her age to look impressive?

Not sure if there is a 100% chance of finding it, but if Tesya's age is stated in the Guildpact Novel that would give us an estimate on when the first Guildpact was broken

I wonder if Baan is going to be a recurring character, if not full on antagonist. If so I have to think he may taverse the Multiverse warning other walkers of the Gatewatch's marvelous ability to destablize things.

Perhaps- but Baan strikes me along the lines of Nahiri- outside of the context they were presented in, they probably wouldn't be villians at all.

Like, now that Nahiri's done on Innistrad, she probably has zero motivation to completely screw up another world. Hell, I'm betting there's a good part of her that's wracked with guilt for what she did on Innistrad.

Does Nahiri know that Ugin was dead/in a coma while the Eldrazi were breaking free? If not, she'll probably target Tarkir next. She's already tried to murder an entire Plane to get revenge on one guy; I doubt someone like that can even recognize guilt...

Agree on Dovin, though. He does feel Azorius-y: it's about maintaining order. Lawful neutral, to use a D&D term.
I bet she'll target Tarkir next too. And go there, won't find Ugin so she'll take her revenge by murdering all his kind there - thus ending the dragon rule and returning Tarkir to the days of khans, which was inevitably more popular anyway.

She tries Declaration in Stone again and takes 10 from DragonLady Kolaghan.

Saheeli Rai combo is pretty terrifying, especially since UW and UR Control are not bad archetypes to begin with and all the pieces are individually solid. I can't imagine we're not going to see Saheeli, Felidar, or both banned at some point in the next few months. I'm sure this isn't even an optimized list, but:

I might miss something but how do you win?

Saheeli and Felidar go full Splinter Twin.
