  • posted a message on Worth building a Token EDH deck without green?
You can always just run Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet in a completely normal Mono-black deck. Get him out early and then, when the first wrath falls, you'll suddenly be swimming in zombies for basically no commitment in your other 99 cards.

You can also run cards like Bad Moon and Ascendant Evincar if you want to go wide.

card 2 -- too many easy ways to draw a game, promotes stalling and slow play. No fair cost because the design is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.

How do you figure? The only ways that I can think of are involuntary loops, massive simultaneous symmetrical damage (i.e. Hurricane), or Divine Intervention. At the cost of a card in hand, I would say that's not unreasonable.

Time over counts as a draw. Time over is the most common form of drawing a game, rather than loops or damage.

This card encourages playing as slow and stall as you can get away with. Want to see decks that just search and shuffle the library, then take 3 minutes every time? There aren't enough judges to cover everyone doing this crap in a tournament.

This card makes for a hair pulling, judge's nightmare, unfun mess of a game.

Ah, that's a valid concern. However, I'm fairly certain that time-outs are external to the game itself; Abyssal Persecutor doesn't prevent your opponent from losing due to receiving two warnings, after all. 'Draw' is a potential outcome of the game just like 'Win' or 'Lose', and a card affecting draws is no more encompassing than a card affecting the latter two.

I'm fine with any of them other than Inktreader; he's too abusive with cards like Expedite or Niveous Wisps

Sygg, River Cutthroat would appear to be the best of the two blue-black rogue legends for Lorwyn-style rogue tribal. I have my doubts about Gwendlyn and the whole being-a-good-card thing Tongue

Not that Bad Sygg is particularly competitive either...

Veil of Secrecy would be amazing due to its splice cost being beneficial in many blue decks. I would run it without hesitation in Sakashima the Impostor if there were enough worthwhile arcane cards to consistently splice it onto.

Card 3 should probably not ever be made; having 1 saproling shouldn't let you win the game no matter how much mana this card costs. Maybe if it mentioned a minimum (i.e. "if you control at least 20 creature tokens...")

Card 1 doesn't work quite how you'd think; the players would gain the extra turns in priority order, which means they would take them in reverse priority order. I think that'd actually be pretty neat, though. I'd still cost it at 3UU since I feel Time Warp is too strong. Mythic rare.

Card 2 is probably 1WW or 2WW and rare.

Card 4 reminds me of Terastodon. The Don can't blow up creatures, but he can totally blow up lands so I would say that's even. The Don gives them creatures though, so I would say Card 4 should cost 6BRG at rare.

For Card 5 there's almost literally no reason for it not to just say "Each player exiles a nonland permanent" except to interact with very specific cards like Mortician Beetle. I'd cost it at 2W or 1WB and Uncommon.

Card 6 gives the opponent the final choice, which is a bit more balanced than Fact or Fiction. I'd say 3U or 4U since FoF is still overpowered. Rare.

  • posted a message on What Would The Color, Mana Cost, and Rarity Be For These Unusual Abilities
The reminder text on card 1 is clearly not what you intend. What happens if I cast Mind Swords? You might argue that the intent is obvious in this case, but that raises so many other questions...

What is such a player's life total or hand size for the purpose of cards like Malignus or Adamaro, First to Desire?

What happens to that player's creatures? Can I target or affect them? What happens to creatures that player owns that I have Mind Controled? What if someone else uses Homeward Path while I have the exiled player's creature? If the creatures remain, what happens when one of their triggered abilities calls for a decision (i.e. "you may draw a card")?

Does the player get a turn? What happens if I cast it during the opponent's turn; does it end? Is there an "end of turn" for the player to be exiled until or do they just never come back? What happens if I cast it targeting myself to dodge something bad, then my opponent Twincasts it and targets himself with the copy?

Does the target player's graveyard exist? Does that player's library exist?

There are so many questions this card raises, and those I have listed above only begin to scratch the surface of what is wrong with it.

Card 4 feels like an old broken card that will end up getting abused in an unintended way, like Time Vault. The rest seem fine

Card 2: 5U enchantment with Tribal - Eldrazi and Devoid
Card 3: At least 3 cmc before considering the high p/t, although the exact cost depends on if it's mono-W or Azorius and on how many colored mana symbols it has. I'd say give it flying and it could cost 2WWU at rare or mythic.
    Card 5: 1WG; It's like Innocent Blood but off-color and instant-speed.
    Card 6: 4BG
Card 7: 5WU if you add Prowess (which it feels like it should have); 4WU if you insist on no prowess.

Why... is it an ally? XD
Seems pretty clearly geared towards 2HG sliver pals archetype, but I don't know that they need the help so much.
There's also the obvious criticism of five brand new mechanics on one card, but I feel like the card is designed with the assumption that said mechanics already exist on other cards.

You may want to just make costs like 1W, 1U, etc.; though I'm a huge fan of Cromat so I won't complain.
I would also recommend changing Spellblock to "Whenever this creature becomes the target of a spell or ability, counter that spell or ability unless its controller pays 1". That way it stacks with multiple activations the way you seem to want it to.

For my card, I'm making a cycle of 5 legendary Nephilim, and I'm still having a bit of trouble with this guy...

    Whim-Feast Nephilim WBRG
    Legendary Creature - Nephilim
    -----
1, Discard a card: Put a +1/+1 counter on Whim-Feast Nephilim. Any player may activate this ability.

As long as Whim-Feast Nephilim's power is odd, it has indestructible, trample, and lifelink.
    -----
    3/2

It will not rest until its hunger is sated

Ne-Ne should probably be 1/2. Agreed that they would all have to be released in non-standard-legal sets.
Ojen would probably need to be at least 1B with that first ability. As limited as it is, it's still a form of repeatable card advantage on a 1-cmc general. Maybe "that player discards an additional card, then draws a card", or some other black discard effect that doesn't generate actual card advantage.

Alternatively, "Whenever an opponent discards one or more cards for the first time in a turn, look at the top card of that player's library. You may put that card into that players graveyard."
    A bit wordy for a 1-drop, though.

EDIT: also, that second ability should definitely be sorcery-speed-only. Instant-speed discard is a no-no nowadays to avoid forcing opponents to discard during their upkeep before they can play the card.

Creeping Renaissance is a fantastic card for recurring artifacts.

I play an Eight-and-a-Half-Tails EDH deck and I can tell you for sure, that dude will always want more mana. Spellskite is the right choice.

  • posted a message on Are partners too overpowered? Did WotC mess up?
I'm a huge fan of Tymna and Ishai (not necessarily partnered together; just in-general). My only real fear is that if WotC keeps making more of these, they'll end up making something accidentally broken beyond all reason.

I'm also really confused why people seem to like Vial-Smasher so much. It doesn't give card advantage, and the fact that it damages a random player and that the damage isn't going to usually be much higher than 3-to-7 means that it's not much of a win condition. The only thing I can think is that maybe if you give him lifelink he'd be... kinda good? Infect would be absurdly strong on him, but only three cards give that.

Jhoira of the Ghitu'd an Emrakul, the Aeons Torn into play following an Obliterate (back before old Emmy got banned). Then I played my land and passed.

Next turn, play a second land and cackle maniacally before I cast Phantasmal Image for a second Emrakul... Before I move to combat...
This of course being back before the legend/planeswalker change, when BOTH of them still died.

More recently, we all had a laugh when, faced with inevitable defeat at the hands of an incoming Prossh, Skyraider of Kher, I tapped my Sensei Golden-Tail and dubbed a third player's Rafiq of the Many "the last of the Samurai". That's more 'stupidly-fun' than 'stupid', though.

... The Rafiq player still lost Sweat

  • posted a message on How can I balance between casual and competitive when building a commander deck?
One option is to play cards that get better with the opponent's deck.

Thada Adel, Acquisitor, Shared Fate, Bribery, Word of Seizing, Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge, Commandeer, etc.

EDIT: you can also pick an overpowered commander to build your deck around. Then, find an alternate, much less synergistic commander in the same colors that you can swap to when you don't want to be serious.

  • posted a message on Ruination / Back to Basics / nonbasic hate in the age of 4 color commanders
I almost always run ruination and/or blood moon in my monored decks because there's not a good reason not to when I'm already playing Extraplanar Lens. That said, monored control is my favorite playstyle (not a good style persay, just fun for me). I usually have something like Wild Guess or Jaya Ballard, Task Mage to pitch useless cards, so I usually play hate cards like Boil, Null Rod, and Grafdigger's Cage.

EDIT: I also don't complain if someone Wake of Destructions all of my snow-covered mountains, or even runs cards like Decree of Annihilation. Armageddon is the only card I have a slight problem with, and only because it doesn't cost enough mana.

I second Karador, Ghost Chieftain for spirit tribal. I just wish he had blue for the Innistrad spirits.

I also like Golem tribal with Brass Herald and Adaptive Automaton. I use Karn, Silver Golem rather than Bosh, Iron Golem since Karn is 'true' colorless. Sometimes I really wish I could run a Geosurge, though.
