I don't care what they cost, provided Alexander Gregory is allowed no where near the facial features of any of them....Already have 2 weird baboon faced planeswalkers.
Or they could make a level up card with 2 levels called "states", a new ability word "toggle", use the level-up rules + level 0 chunk of the text box to define the toggle condition and simply add the rules for both states.
something like
Werewolves could've been Toggle - Werewolf, where Werewolf is an actual keyword
A bit cumbersome, but not as much as flip cards and DFC
But i wanted Blasto the jellyfish specter quadra-weilding sniper rifles
On topic, while i would love to have a Sliver PW and it could mechanically work, i don't think we'll get non-anthropomorphic PWs anytime soon. (Nicol bolas counts as anthropomorphic).
DFC were superior to flip cards in nearly every possible way. Sorry if the half a second it takes to flip your card inconveniences you. That half a second is worth the easier to grok game-state without memory issues, the better art, the room for flavor text, the room for rules text...
I have a cube with clear sleeves. I can't have DFCs in it.
Decks with DFC can't have them.
Decks without sleeves can't have them.
Yes, WOTC printed cards that cannot be played without sleeves, or those stupid checklists.
Opaque decks require you to take the card out of the sleeve repeatedly (which can damage it).
All that for what? have more room for more texto. Ok, fair enough, how did they utilize this "extended room for text"?
Clearly, these cards required the full potential of DFC and sacrificing one of the core fundamental desing aspects of the game, was well worth it.
It's not like the flipping text takes a huge chunk off the text box, you know, contrary to the idea of using flip cards to have more text. Specially in Werewolves, where it could have been a keyword.
It's not like Ludevic or Delver could simply put a creature token into play as it doesn't even have the ability to flip back, no no. We need to create a totally unpractical mechanic that messes with the back of the card and forces people to use ugly looking checklist cards in their decks. Brilliant!
I could have forgiven them if the had used ALL flip cards to their maximum potential. As it stands, only a handful are actually worth the hassle.
Both versions where a disaster IMO. Innistrad's was worse than Kamigawa's in pretty much every except for the fact that it allowed for full art and text for both "cards".
On the flip side (pun intended), Kamigawa flip cards where a lot more functional, but looked horrendous. Quite possibly the worst looking magic cards ever. The artwork was a mess, the frame was a mess, the textbox was too small on both sides and it was hard to make out what part of the card belonged to what side.
I hope we never see Kamigawa flip cards ever again.
On the other hand, you COULD make innistrad flip cards work IF they print proxies of the unflipped version on the back of, say, tokens or something (instead of that awful checklist card. Really? a checklist?) or even better, normal magic back, allowing flipcards to be played on transparent sleeves.
But still, both are very poorly designed and i hope they try something new and better next time.
Hexproof is no more broken than indestructible, it's mostly cost making it so good.
Indestructible loses to bounce, shackle/pacifism effects, tap effects, remove from the game effects, -x/-x effects, shuffle-into-library / put-on-bottom-of-library effects. It simply doesn't die to damage and destruction.
It's kinda hard to have a reasonable argument with the naysayers when they truly believe killing legends with clones is flavourful, mechanically correct and a valid strategy (and not some rules loophole exploit) ...
or that they hate the new rule because it buffs a handful legendary hexproof creatures (A broken keyword), a (Broken) planeswalker and a couple of legendary (Broken) lands that only matter in vintage and legacy...
Clearly these broken cards becoming even more broken under the new rule is M14's fault, and not the fact that they where broken since the beginning.
Oh no! the new rule make a handfull of cards more powerful than they originaly where? Betrayal!!
Is not like there's a banlist that deals with these sort of things, or house ruling, no no no. It's not like legendary hexproof creatures will get houseruled out and possibly banned in EDH.
This awesome new rule with tons of new potential must be rolled back to the previous, unintuitive, simplistic, flavor fail version, simply on behalf of keeping said handful of cards in check and using clones as kill spells..
It does make certain legendaries that like to die like the Kamigawa dragons an amazing target for cloning [when you do it]. Progentior Mimic and Followed Footsteps, Infinite Reflection.... obviously just EDH shennigans, I don't think this will impact Legacy/modern because that will be too slow. Although chaining planeswalkers could be something that might open another can of worms we are just not ready for.
Yes, the new rules removes 1 interaction (clones as kills spells) but brings new interactions, like cloning your own legend without losing both, "refreshing" a legend or PW and oh..i almost forgot.. CLONING YOUR OPPONENT'S GENERAL AND SMASHING HIS FACE WITH IT.
so, just to recap:
Downside:
> Clones are no longer legend kill spells
> Hexproof legends are harder to deal with
Upside:
> Clones are no longer legend kill spells
> Clones work as intended
-Enemy legends can be cloned
-Enemy COMMANDERS can be cloned
> Evil twin is now an evil twin
> Can refresh your PW and/or legend (no longer dead copies in hand)
> Can change from one PW to another with the same type without having to kill the old one first (no longer dead copies in hand)
> Better Interactions with ETB / LTB legends (no longer dead copies in hand)
> PW mirror can happen
> Legend mirror can happen
> Noob friendly in case they mistakenly play 2 copies of the same legend
Clearly, this rules update is made of pure evil and WoTC want's to ruin magic for all.
In fact, we usually don't break out the cube unless we have a minimum of 4.
The key is politics, subterfuge and manipulation. Cards from the Commander sets are great for this.
Expect long games (1+ hours) with lots of late game bombs.
Amen

This is why we can't have Hanars and Elcors in our party in Mass Effect

ludevic's test subject turns into a 13/13 trampler
reckless waif turns into vanilla 3/2
Hanweir wtachkeeper turns into a 5/5 "attack each turn if able"
Delver of secrets turns into a 3/2 Flying
And so on...

Elbrus, the Binding Blade could have been a token, but nooo..
[before someone jumps in, i know making them tokes is not the same. But at least you are not forcing such a clumsy mechanic for a similar effect]

Indestructible isn't even that safe from sweepers
Hexproof is immune to spot EVERYTHING, barring combat damage.
I stand by what i said. Hexproof > Indestructible.
It also doesn't help that they abused it on aggresively costed cards in combination with other abilities.
