Im just gonna come out and say it. I think this new Jace planeswalker guy is gonna be big in standard. I mean he's just so awesome with all four of those abilities of his. My advice is get them while they're cheap now so you don't end up spending your life savings just to get 3-4 of them.
As for the tournament rules on opening packs, like the ones you've described, you would report them to a judge and the pack would be replaced. This rule was used when people in sealed or draft would open a pack with all the cards being mythic, and it applies the same to this situation.
I personally like crazy art work, just for the sake of making good art all the better. Seriously tho, if we didn't have a really bad art every now and then we wouldn't appreciate what all of Chippy's art. Well, i would, but it only makes artist's works like his all the more awesome.
Did he say it was specifically going to be a CHRISTMAS gift? Or just a holiday gift? Because if it was to be any kinda holiday, then who's to say that Jace wasn't a Hanukkah gift? I mean how many days of Hanukkah are there? And how many pieces of Jace were there? Starting to make sense now?
I really dig this card. It makes me happy. Everyones initial reaction is with Wall of D and DoJ, but id like to see some sort of U/B control arise with this man running the show.
Somebody want to explain to me in what universe Steel Wall is worse that Steel Wall that can't be played by every color? Yes, yes, Steel Wall is an Artifact. Good thing that in standard that isn't relevant in the slightest. I guess Kraken Hatchling can attack for 0?
Just to clarify, I don't think this card is really T2 playable, but is awesome in limited.
In the universe where there are multiple threats such as artifacts and enchantments being all over the place you could easily have the situation where the agro player boards in disenchant to deal with the control players O-Ring or that new enchantment that pumps out 4/4 angels. And now when facing that dumb artifact wall w/ a disenchant in hand he has the ability to kill it where he would not have had that option if it were a creature.
Sure the situation is narrow, but I could list several other narrow applications where is really does matter, as there are instances where a 0/4 artifact has the advantage because cards like Open the Vaults could bring it back post a wrath. But you asked for a universe where the Kraken was better and there ya go.
Wow. I just couldn't believe it, but I mean wow. It almost feels abit like the time spiral rarity, but simply more rare. Im impressed frankly, partly because of the huge kahones this takes, and partly because this makes me crazy at having to figure out the math on the rarity and to what extent it fully goes to. wow, i am in awe
Hmmm..... Akoum Akoum...... Teeth of Akoum....Akoum's Razor? Sorry, couldn't resist.
I'm not sure this really can tell us much about the flavor of the set because Akoum is, most possibly, a character. Other then knowing that this fits in the incredibly vague area of Middle Eastern/African/Bizarro World, we still don't know. Sorin being a Romaian name doesn't tell us much either because we don't know if he's a native planeswalker to Zendikar or just visting like Elspeth or Sarkan. I am very hungry for more info.
i really really dig the new ponder art. That and Deathmark are the only two new artworks that really jump out and me as wow. All the others may be cool, or interesting, or absolutely terrible (i.e. bramble creeper...seriously wtf? this isn't Kamigawa), but Ponder and Deathmark are, at the least, imo the best art works for this block.
LOL, so wow i need a set of Spanish Jackal Familures....
Oh and by the way, does anyone know if foils in this set won't have reminder text like in 10th? I don't recall reading about that one way or another anywhere.
I agree with ur analysis on Apocalypse...it is awesome. An Planar cleansing is not so much the goods...although it does look pretty good for EDH group games. Gotta consider all formats now. Don't forget about Pauper!! Well maybe not pauper, no one cares about that..
As for Opens the Vaults, I feel it will have more of an impact in Extended then Standard. More cards to abuse and wreck face with.
I share ur feeling about cancel deeply. But hey, Theives Auction is frakin' sweet.
Everything else, i more or less agree with, and it sounds like we share many of the same views and would use the same expilitives to describe many of these cards.
This....is not dragon storm. There is no storming of dragons involved in this deck. In fact, the only similarities are that it R/U and has 4 Borgadan Hellkite in it.
So from what started out as an effort to claim which card is the most terrible of M10, there has arisen several contenders with Yawning Fissure, Disorient, and Bramble Creeper in the lead. What is so hilarious is that from an effort to support one's claim that they have noted the worst card in the set, they supply arguments as to why the other cards are interesting design space, fill some nich, or whatever.
The only purpose I can think of for bad cards is that when I need tokens or counters and a I don't have any available to me, i rip a bad card to pieces and use them. Thats fulfilling a purpose right???
BUT.. If i had to vote for a Bog Hoodlums like card, a card that is so terrible it makes me angry.... I would have to say its a five way tie between the reprinted cycle of the artifact 'charms'. I mean its just sooooo aggravating that in a set where the numbers were cut so sharply and with, approximately, only half the set being reprints...why the hell are these in here?!?!?!? I hate them sooo much and can't ever think of a time when any of these, other then the red charm used in the board for mirror matches, where these have ever seen the light of day.
You.... are.... powerful.

Oh yeah the Phenoix is pretty sexy too.
