I was told by a sales rep that you had to have run an Alara Reborn prerelease to qualify to sell these, but since then people have heard other conflicting information from other sales reps, so it's possible that was an early, early consideration that got axed. Bottom line seems to be that a tournament organizer needs to endorse a store, and that each store with endorsements gets an allotment of product based on the highest level tournament organizer to endorse them. Early estimates are that advanced-level organizer endorsements are worth 16 copies and core-level organizer endorsements are worth 8, but again multiple endorsements are redundant. You only get allocation equal to the best endorsement you get.

mst3k is correct: endorsement sign-ups are happening right now, but stores can't order until after the 27th. The set comes out August 28th. There will likely be presales at GenCon like there were for the dragons set, since GenCon is conveniently two weeks before the street date for these.

I definitely don't have the know-how or time to bother faking something like this, believe me. You'll see these on the backs of your tokens this weekend at the prerelease.

As far as I know, these sets retail for $34.99, same as FTV: Dragons. They're so limited, though, that it's possible many stores just won't sell them at all. I remember with FtV: Dragons, the store I went to held one or two for tournament prizes, and the rest all got snatched up by employees and were never sold for retail. This time around, even getting the full 16 allotment, most of my store's copies are spoken for well in advance. We may have four left we can sell to first-come-first-served.

    EDIT: Stupid smileys!

Here's a scan from an ad on the back of M2010 tokens.

Anyone want to go through the list of possibilities and come up with options. I'm thinking this confirms Berserk.

EDIT: To sum up the answers to the questions that have been asked over and over again throughout the course of this thread:

    1) From the Vault: Exiled is being released August 28th.
    2) It is definitely only being sold to brick & mortar stores who run tournaments, and in limited quantity. If you want one, you should contact your local store ASAP and ask them how they're handling the product. They may not have full details until the end of the month.
    3) I didn't photoshop this card and other people on the forum have all seen it in person now too.
    4) This is essentially confirmed as Berserk (even, ostensibly, by the artist himself), even if it doesn't strike you as appropriate for Berserk or deserving of Berserk's status. There are ZERO other cards that both qualify for this boxset and also seem a fraction of as appropriate for this art as Berserk does.

I'm sure he's not lying, but he probably hasn't checked recently. Wizards capped ordering directly from them at ten boxes, and last I checked Alliance (which is the gaming arm of Diamond) was completely sold out already.

As far as Wal-mart is concerned, they must have ordered a ton of DvD up front as a company, and just have it sitting in one of their warehouses somewhere. That box set has been unavailable from all distributors since before it was released to the public. If Wal-mart has it all it explains why we weren't able to get our hands on anymore than we did. My store only opened in February and when DvD came out we hadn't really gotten the hang of how early products like that had to be preordered. When it came down to it, two weeks before it came out, every last distributor (including Wizards themselves) was 100% sold out with no chance of a reprint and we ended up having to talk to a different store about selling us a box just so we could meet the preorders we'd taken from customers.

Look, I'm not trying to blow this up and make it sound like Planechase or future Duel Decks are going to be hard to find if you want one. I'm sure they won't be. I'm just trying to express that what the original poster said is true. This is a limited product that will receive a single printing, and after that you're at the mercy of conglomerate warehouse stockpiling supply or the inability of your local store to quickly sell through what they ordered.

EDIT: As a side note, I'm not the person who usually does the ordering for my store. I did place the Planechase order from Wizards, but I didn't personally talk with Alliance or ACD about it directly. My partner, who does most of the ordering, talked to them and said they were sold out. I can ask him to double check tomorrow, though, just to lay the issue to rest.

The Duel Decks are limited in exactly the same way this is. My store preordered DvD and hasn't been able to get a copy since. If Wal-Mart still has them it's because DvD was a bad product and hasn't sold, not because it wasn't limited. We struggled even to fill our preorders on DvD, because every distributor was sold out of them weeks before their release. They did one print run and they haven't reprinted it since.

The only difference between From the Vault and Duel Decks is that FtV sets are much MORE limited. They're restricting stores to buying between 8 and 16 total individual FtV units (based on their tournament organizer level), whereas they're restricting stores to buying 40 individual Planechase units and around the same amount for Duel Decks. Garruk Vs. Liliana preorders just opened and I forget what our cap was, but once the first print of those sells out, they're gone forever too. They'll still be available on the secondary market or in stores where the product just never sold out for one reason or another, but there will be no second printing.

I'm not sure how limiting the release of DvD would stop people from stockpiling them and gouging the price. It seems like it would do just the opposite, and based on eBay prices, where you can get JvC for $10 sealed and DvD for $25 sealed, I'd guess limiting the print as much as they did with DvD inflated its secondary value.

The bottom line is Planechase is a limited product. It's not as limited as From the Vault sets, but it is about as limited as Duel Decks (which are also limited).

This is a limited release. And yes, each store was limited to buying 40 decks (10 of each different type) directly from Wizards. I'm pretty sure a store that wanted more could have bought more from Alliance or ACD, but at this point Wizards, ACD, and Alliance are all sold out of the product as far as I know. There isn't a prerelease, only a launch party.

EDIT: Someone responded while I was typing this, but my store bought ten displays from Wizards, which was the maximum we could buy. Each display contains one of each deck. I don't know anything about case math because Wizards honestly measures things by individual unit on invoices and always wants orders placed in terms of displays.

I'm telling you, I've had two different Wizards reps tell me that running an Alara Reborn prerelease is what gets you FtV:E privileges. Stores that didn't host the last prerelease aren't going to be able to get the box-set. I've been given the impression this is something they're going to continue to do to get more and more stores running prereleases (a la the Jace promos they gave away with Agents of Artifice to stores who ran Conflux prereleases).

Update! Talked to my rep today and the exclusive plane available at Zendikar prereleases is probably in addition to the normal alternate art prerelease promo foil. So, it's not taking that card's slot. He didn't have concrete information about anything that he could share with me, though.

I'm sorry, I misread. Yeah, the promos are for stores who run tournaments. I don't think they necessarily have to run FNM, as long as they're brick & mortar and run sanctioned tournaments.

Each one comes with ten planes, so assuming there's no planar overlap between the different box-sets, chances are each of the four will contain current planes, old planes, and planes we've never seen before.

No, the only stores that get FTV:E are brick & mortar stores that ran an Alara Reborn prerelease.

The way it reads to me, there are going to be launch parties (not prereleases) for Planechase. For participating in this launch party there will be an exclusive plane card given away.

Additionally, players in the Zendikar prerelease will get an exclusive plane card. The email didn't say one way or the other whether or not that plane was in addition to the normal alternate art foil prerelease card that most sets get. And it didn't say one way or the other whether or not Zendikar will contain planes (but my inclination is that it won't, since, you know, they're too big to fit in boosters).

My problem i have with this is that the store i go to gets left out of FNM and gets left out this stuff. I wonder if i purchase online will i get this promo?

Your store isn't getting left out of FNM or any of this stuff. It's electing not to participate in it. The promo is only going to be available to participating stores (and honestly, any store with table space and a sign outside is capable of easily becoming a Wizards premier store and gaining the benefit of being eligible for these sorts of promotions).

    Quote from xi.omega
I haven't received anything of the sort and I'm pretty sure this promo is just for the US crowd (again)...

I asked an internet shop in germany about the restrictions on FtV:Exiled and he didn't know anything about it, saying it will be available for sale in the same quantities as the FtV:D.

From the Vault: Exiled is only available to stores that ran an Alara Reborn prerelease. This is definite. I've been told this by two different Wizards sales reps. I don't think internet stores are getting any unless they're getting them on the secondary market. This is being set-up as a promotion like the alternate art Jace that came with the Agents of Artifice books. Your books only came with a promo if your store ran a Conflux prerelease.

Got an email from my WotC rep earlier today that indicates that 1) there will be launch parties held for Planechase, 2) there will be exclusive promo planes given out as the participation prize, 3) there will be exclusive promo planes available as participation prizes at the Zendikar prerelease (no word on whether or not this is in addition to a normal prerelease promo), 4) each Planechase deck will contain one preview Zendikar card, and that 5) many of the promos available for organized play for the remainder of 2009 will in fact be additional exclusive planes.

It sounds like they're pushing this awfully hard for a multiplayer format, though it does kind of sound awesome. Here's the full text of his email:

I can verify "Honor of the Pure." I signed up for my store's copies earlier today. I'm hearing so much crazy, competing, and inconsistent information about stores, and how they're run and how they should be run, in this thread. Where are you all located that your store stopped selling singles, or charges $160 for a box (which is over $15 over retail), or only runs FNM?

And, to whomever said singles account for the "real money" from Magic at their store, I'm pretty sure that's not true most places. None of the stores I've talked to seem like they make ANY money from selling singles, and my store only sells so many singles because we sell our cards for much lower than online vendors and buy for much higher prices. We sell a ton and we do reasonably well with singles, but they certainly don't compare at all to selling packs, which we sell for retail and even eat the sales tax ourselves.
