Is there a way a Mod can change the title of this thread? It is causing some confusion.
[GRN] Planeswalker Masterpieces is not correct, it should be something more like.....
[MED] Hasbro Alt Art Planeswalkers or [MED] Promo Masterpieces of Planeswalkers

Just for clarification purposes GRN should not be in the title

I reported the thread - hopefully someone changes it. It kind of is related to GRN though because it is branded GRN and has GRN boosters in it - but yes, for clarity I'd rather it be tagged MED (for Media - I presume?)

Because similar to Radha before her SJW’s/feminists are afraid of fictional characters that look better than they do. So while not as bad as Radha, the SJW/Feminist in WotC couldn’t have Emmara look like the sultry elf she did before. Else the would feel bad about how they can’t compete with the looks of a nonexistent character.

Two years ago - this post would have made me laugh. But it's probably exactly true.

Agree - definitely Dimir. Not just the colour of the clothes but the style.

Boros midrange? That may be true for the first Ravnica set but both returns sets settle Boros as aggro guild.

Hence why I said "the original Boros" And yes, Radiance was pretty bad - but I was just hoping for something different in the design space for a guild that has more depth than just more aggro.

Then again - Simic's evolve wound up being used in creative ways - like Fathom Mage which uses counters in a way that's not strictly aggro. Maybe Boros will too.

Honestly though - Mentor seems like a weak mechanic that can't go very far. We might see something like "When CARDNAME mentors a creature - it gains lifelink (or first strike or... whatever) until end of turn." it still feels very uninspired. All of these feel very uninspired. I mean I know they can't hit it out of the park every time - but all the other guild mechanics were super interesting and flavourful (even when they were executed poorly)

While I don't like people like him that price-gouge - he isn't wrong on the effect this will have on stores. Your local game store is hurting because of decisions WotC is making and this is literally cutting them out of the pie. Oh look - one of those planeswalkers is the new Ral, so there goes some of the value out of packs.

Hasbro seems to be doing something unexpected here - I wonder if they are trying to pad the value of WotC in order to sell it.

Actually I think she's quite good as a simple beater.

Two drops are starting to get 2/3 cards - so you can't even force a trade in the upcoming meta with her. Trust me - I considered that too. 2/2 for 2 is no longer 'good enough' on it's own. And that's on the play. On the draw red has chainwhirler.

And I feel like i have to say this every time - that's based on the cards we know which is incredibly small. I have a feeling we'll see more cards that will change the way she is evaluated - but I think most people are over-evaluating her as far as Standard is concerned (I don't play anything else so I can't speak to anything else)

I wonder what his planeswalker deck variant will be.

I mean he's gotta be one of the Planeswalker deck planeswalkers right?

Jace is almost certain to get one of the decks - which means the other has to be non-blue. Actually maybe not - RIX had two black decks...

That said - I'm sure the other deck will go to Gideon.

They aren't called Masterpieces. The set is called "Mythic Edition" They will not appear in boosters - they learned their lesson that they lead to reduced pack sales.

What was the reason they temporarily removed Masterpieces from sets?

I don't think it was temporary - I think it was permanent (Don't be fooled by the title of this thread - these are NOT masterpieces they are a separate line of sold product)

The reason is that the value of all the cards in the box will on average be equal to the MSRP of the box (in the long run - post release there will be gouging until the market equalizes). Having some 'super rare' cards that are highly sought after will mean that more cards will be bought to flood the market. When there are a handful of chanse masterpeices then those hold the entirety of the value of the box - which basically means it is playing the lottery.

Now you may think "Cheaper cards is good for magic!" but the reality of it is that when card packs are like playing the lottery - then that hits FNM attendance, because then the prizes are not worth playing for. The singles market is of better value and no one wants to play FNM for pack prizes - which hurts the stores (and thus pack sales)

the power level of the game any more top-heavy than it already is, they would. The reason they don't is because it wouldn't matter: only about 20% of the rares / mythics in a typical set make any kind of dent in Standard play. You could shave 1 off the cost of every card in any given Standard metagame and it wouldn't increase the number of playable rares / mythics. In fact, it would probably do just the opposite, and propel one or two single deck archetypes to the top, reducing the number of playable cards in the metagame.

So, if 80% of your rares / mythics are just never going to be good enough for Standard, what do you do with those slots? You allot them to different kinds of players who don't care as much about Standard power level. Casual players, draft players, Timmy, Johnny, etc.

Now, that's not what I'm arguing is going on with Narcomoeba. I'm just saying that your litmus test for card rarity is wrong. I'm not sure that your evaluation of Narcomoeba's power level is any better. I think there's a good chance that WotC is positioning Narcomoeba for competitive Standard play. And, since a Sea Eagle (even a free Sea Eagle) is so utterly awful in draft, it really needs to be positioned at a rarity where drafters will not see it very much. WotC made the right call by upshifting it.

The TL;DR of what you just said is - "It's too bad for Limited so they made it rare so it won't clog up card pools."

I think I don't like that it's rare - but there are combo potentials with it. I could see it being used in a Desecrated Tomb deck if such a thing where to get off the ground - it does hit the Yard and then leave the Yard as part of it's trigger, which triggers Tomb. I don't know if it will ever be competitive - but then I didnt' think God Pharoah's Gift would be competitive either (I was so wrong)

I'm glad to see shocklands reprinted here. Yeah, it may be expected and a bit boring, but I know i'd be quite upset if they didn't reprint them. Is an easy and safe choice that ensures a bit of value in the set and make players happy. The main reason this reprint makes sense is for standard play: with all ten checklands currently legal, shocklands are well and welcome as early turn untapped duals wich can fix your mana without tempo loss.

2 things I expected out of ravnica - Shocklands and hybrid. Hybrid has yet to be confirmed, and I'm nervous about it.

Shadowmoor and Eventide were my favourite sets of all time (Lorwyn/Morningtide my LEAST favourite) so you can tell I have a soft sport for hybrid.

    EDIT: Nevermind, it has been confirmed;

Something I guess that should be pointed out is that the token is only forced to attack the turn it is created. That is quite nice.

More accurately - the combat it is created. If you get two attack phases for some reason it's not even required to attack in the 2nd one.

Here's hoping that they actually manage to create a Limited environment where playing a very high Instant/Sorcery count is viable, but we all know Wizards too well.

    It's doable in M19 with the right cards;

Fell Specter would be a decent one to clone in numbers. Force a discard and ramp up life loss on the opponent.

Not a solid strategy. Most players have emptied their hands by the point in the game where that might be viable, and it's not an instant.

Not so much good for as it rewards you for using her for comvoke. And, if the token sticks around then you can use it for your next comvoke spell. It's almost lost Ke she has "t: make a mana dork" baked in. I get that you get that, but I think you are valuing it lower than other commenters.

I am valuing it lower - because it's a worse card than most people give it credit for and for Convoke alone there are better cards. I'm someone who hyped Night Market Lookout when others thought it bad and I used it a lot with vehicles - so I know how good that trigger can be.

The problem is - vehicles are leaving (EDIT: the good ones that is) and the idea of always having a Convoke every turn is magical christmas land for colours that don't typically draw cards. You are almost always better having some of the saproling generation out of Dom over her unless you need to convoke for W

So I stand by my evaluation. Unless there are other effects that tap creatures as a cost (such as Glare of Subdual which is on-theme for Selesnya) I don't see this card seeing play in Standard. My opinion as always may change when we see more cards, though.
