even a one-shot reanimator for an enchantment will work...retether's place is not in this deck, but there should be another card that does it? just found it...Argivian Find or maybe second sunrise?

Extirpate isnt good enough? I can see that...but what about the 4 extra SB slots, now? Im thinking 4 Howling Mines in case the Anvils go, but is there a Replenish-esque card in Legacy (I think Replenish is banned, correct?) because losing the Chains kinda sucks and makes this deck run around like a chicken without a head, devoid of guidance, setting up bad draws for you while giving your opponent a draw engine, or maybe something to stop CotV set at 2? maybe run Chalice myself?

thats why I've based a whole deck around it, somewhere else on this board...Combo decks cant win under a Chains, much less a full Chains prison lock. But if you dont have them, dont stress if you cant find them, is my point...

one thing to keep in mind about Chains of Mephistopheles, as its been mentioned twice already here...it is definitely not an easy card to acquire, and it will generally cost one over $200 for a set of them. Cost me just under, but that's what friends with connections are for...if you dont have chains or dont know someone that has them, dont count on having them,...

since the problem is space, after looking at the deck, the curve really is 2, are 23 lands good? or should I remove 2 lands, 1 Island Sanctuary, and 1 Chronosavant for Bob? losing the lone Sanctuary isnt too bad, especially with E. Tutor in the deck...the 2 other parts of the combo are amazing in multiples, but the Sanctuary really works best when there's only one of them in play. Cleansing Meditations are out, Extirpate is in...gotta love beating random combo decks (IGGy Pop, Solidarity, Reanimator) by removing their win conditions. Thoughts? Maybe E. Plague is too much alongside Damnation and Wrath? Innocent Blood and/or Ghostly Prison?

Legacy...such a format really should be snapped in half by now by some weird, crazy, random combo deck...unfortunately, Goblins is a terrible deck, and AEther Vial should get the damned axe, already...if not Lackey...you dont have an answer for turn 1 Lackey, you lose usually...it shapes the format around it. Isnt that what the DCI's trying to ban? cards that force the whole format to play around it?

That may work, but the deck suffers if it doesnt get a *** effect or Island Sanctuary against aggro, which dominates Legacy at the moment...dont want to meta for the rest of the field while throwing caution to the wind against the strongest? deck type in the format

ok, so the third person now has said Bob fits...therefore, give me something in the second build to remove for him...Shred Memory is on its way out for E.Tutor, and Bob seems like he's going in, too...

Void does mess up Chronosavant, but that's where the Megrims come in. Every game I board in Void, Megrim comes in and Chronosavant comes out...that second list is just a brainstorm, though, so a few card choices may be off...Cleansing Meditation is there vs. Survival, as this deck finds some survival builds a tad bit problematic. I was checking out other threads, though, and I did see an idea that I liked...Trinisphere...it may hurt this deck's low manabase, but is it worth including over the Meditation? Im not that big of a fan of Golden Wish, but if it works, Im all for it...the deck's a little tight, as well, although this deck may just benefit from being more than 60 due to its nature? The Enlightened Tutor does seem like the card the combo's missing, but missing a Hymn to Tourach when it may be just what this deck needs at times? maybe...I also had Bob in originally, but losing life in this PAINFULLY slow deck just isnt worth it...

Unfortunately, there are only 2 bounce spells that are sorcery that dont cost UU...one of them is Vacuumelt, which may help with the Replicate, but another option would be Temporal Fissure, if you dont mind paying 5 mana to bounce a load of permanents back to their hand...

I have built a deck that seems as though it could be a good metagame call for Columbus, but wondering exactly how it should be built. Im working with 2 versions of the deck, and it's a fun (in an evil, sadistic way) Prison-style Combo/Control deck. It abuses Chains of Mephistopheles and Anvil of Bogardan's synergy with Island Sanctuary. After this lock is down, your opponents draws all turn into card disadvantage, while they cant attack with a non-flying or islandwalking creature. Im going to first post the version Im running, then the version the deck's probably going to change into.

The combo is, of course, Chains + Anvil + Island Sanctuary, with counterspell back-up and spot removal such as the StP and efficient discard (hymn to Tourach). The deck performs really well against any card-hungry deck, including IGGy Pop and Solidarity. The Goblin Matchup depends on whether or not the Island Sanctuary comes down early, and the same with Threshold, or for most aggro decks, come to think of it. The other version drops blue entirely, and uses a more control build...

This deck has, IMO, a better metagame call, giving you a set of Damnations against an aggro-laden environment. It also allows Duress, which is amazing against control and combo, obviously. It also allows me to run a more direct win condition over decking an opponent. This deck doesnt keep cards in hand, so a creature that comes back to play from a graveyard is key. I played around with Nether Spirit, which works fine until 2 of them are in the GY, and Akuta, Born of Ash which worked well, but Chronosavant is bigger...maybe Akuta's still better? Let me know what you guys think...

Hey everyone...long time lurker, first time poster...name's Matt, and I'm from NYC...currently typing this in on my blackberry, so it may be slightly different, just like me...I'm a legacy player through and through, and if anyone is as crazy as me and would like to PM me about the legacy format, please do...you can also e-mail me if you'd like...favorite color to play is black, and my favorite card is the insane, if not underrated Chains of Mephistopheles, as the name shows...hope everyone enjoys what I have to say...
