I'm sure that the answer is no, but I'd like a second opinion. Let's say I play Rescue from the Underworld targeting The Mimeoplasm and sacrificing Runeclaw Bear. When the delayed trigger resolves, can the Runeclaw Bear be one of the two creatures I exile for The Mimeoplasm? Also, a CR citation, if possible, would be most appreciated. Thank you.

    1. I control a Selvala, Heart of the Wild equipped with Sword of the Paruns, and I have no other creatures. I activate Selvala's mana ability. How much mana do I make?

    2. I have Heir of the Wilds equipped with Sword of the Paruns, and I have no other creatures. I attack with Heir of the Wilds. What happens?

I want to know if my Unlimited Timetwister is fake. Light seems to pass through it alright, and it doesn't feel strange. I'm mostly concerned about how the mana cost was printed. I'm aware that there is a great deal of variance in how well cards were printed back in Unlimited, but I still want to know if the "2" in the mana cost being a little higher is anything I should be concerned about.

Below is a scan with my phone camera and a cropped scan of the top part of the card with a cheap printer. I say cheap because the scan is not seamless (it never is). I hope this is enough information to go on, and I'd appreciate a swift reply. Thank you.

Which means all cards must be kept in a single pile. The issue from there is that identifying specific cards in a library is murky at best and from the judge rulings I've seen (specifically the ruling here on Approach of the Second Sun by Scott Marshall) if the opponent asks to keep the library ordered and unmarked it is their prerogative so one would have to go through individually flipping cards each time.

Given your linked source, it seems that an acceptable alternative to keeping the cards in separate piles is to put the first pile slanted on top of the second pile. What do you think ?

EDIT: Never mind. I reread the source. It is the opponent's prerogative.

You are all, of course, familiar with the combo involving Timestream Navigator and Ajani, Valiant Protector. It seems rather frustrating to go through each iteration of the loop in paper Magic unless you're only working with one Navigator. On that note, I was wondering if I'm allowed to keep my library in separate portions Battle-of-Wits-style so long as I maintain the order of the cards in my library.

It would pretty much go like this: I have one Ajani waiting to activate, one Navigator likewise, and two Navigators in the library. I activate Ajani first, revealing until I hit Navigator, then randomize the revealed pile and place it to the right of the rest of my library face-down and announce, "These are in my library and the cards towards the right are below the cards to the left." Then I play the Navigator I revealed ("revealed Navigator") and activate the Navigator on the battlefield ("activated Navigator"), putting it on the bottom of my "bottom pile." I repeat this until I have two piles and it can be demonstrated that each pile has a Navigator on bottom.

From here, I can just reveal the left pile whenever I activate Ajani, take the revealed Navigator, randomize the pile, put the activated Navigator on the bottom of that pile, put that pile to the right of the other pile, then cast the revealed Navigator.

I won't bother asking if I can just "Shortcut: draw my library" since a) I'd have to discard, b) too many ifs involving the order of cards drawn, and c) my opponent is entitled to information revealed during each iteration of the loop.

However, my real goal is just to simplify the process of Ajani's ability. Have I accomplished this in a way that is sanctioned-tournament-friendly?

EDIT: All of this assumes that I have the city's blessing, of course.

You might think Muldrotha's ability increases the "cast from graveyard" limit from 0 to 1, but it doesn't, because the word "additional" is nowhere to be found, and not having permission to play something is not the same as having permission to play zero things.

My opponent casts Torment of Hailfire with X equaling 6. I respond with Teferi's Protection. Teferi's Protection resolves, and I have 6 cards in my hand. While Torment of Hailfire is resolving, what are all my options?

Quick question: I have no graveyard and only Timetwister in hand. I play said Timetwister. Do I still shuffle? Please back up with Comprehensive Rules.

    Thanks.

  • posted a message on Merieke and Indestructibles
It would not remain with you if you weren't the original controller of the Hivelord. If Merieke leaves the battlefield, the Hivelord would go back to its original controller (usually the owner) unless another control effect is affecting it.

Say it was enchanted with Mind Control before you used Merieke to control it. If Merieke leaves, Hivelord would go back to the controller of Mind Control if Mind Control were still on the battlefield.

    How about this:

I have on the field: Grusilda, Monster Masher and Swiftfoot Boots.
I have in my hand: Mirrorweave and Masterful Ninja.
I have in my graveyard: Steam Powered-, Myr Welder, and Adorable Kitten

On my turn, I activate Masterful Ninja. I activate Grusilda's ability targeting Adorable Kitten and Myr Welder, putting them into play combined. I play Mirrorweave targeting Myr Welder-Adorable Kitten (which, if I'm not mistaken, is still a host creature), making Masterful Ninja a copy of the Welder Kitten. I equip Ninja Welder Kitten with Swiftfoot Boots and activate its Welder ability, exiling Steam Powered-. Finally, I activate Ninja Welder Kitten's augment ability targeting itself.

Would the Masterful Ninja card augment itself under these circumstances?

  • posted a message on Flickering an augmented creature
So manifestly, this is the unwritten comprehensive rule:
XXX.X. If an augmented creature moves from the battlefield to another public zone and an effect that can find the objects the creature becomes would return them to the battlefield, the effect instead returns those objects to the battlefield as a singular augmented creature. This replacement effect and the ones listed below apply in order before any self-replacement effects. Apply the appropriate replacement effect below only if you apply this one.
XXX.Xa. If a creature without augment would enter this way, it instead enters as a copy of the original augmented creature.
XXX.Xb. If a creature with augment would enter combined with a non-host permanent this way, the resulting permanent will instead enter as a copy of the original augmented creature.

I edited the crap out of this rule, but this is the only way I can make sense of it.

Sorry for replying so late, but I forgot that I posted this thread.

I sent a question to Mark Rosewater's blogatog, but no answer so far. It feels like playing the lottery.

BTW, what I meant by #1 is: when you flicker an augmented creature, you (a) exile it and (b) return the object(s) that the augmented creature became when it was exiled. My question here was: when you perform (a) and the cards are put into exile, is augment still affecting them somehow and treating them as one object or are the two cards (host and augment) two separate objects in the exile zone?

Now, if the answer to question #1 is that they become two separate objects and if augmentation happens AS a creature with augment enters, I don't know how you can blink an augmented creature and still have an augmented creature. Creatures can't see each other AS they enter. If you Tooth and Nail to put two creatures down and one of them is Clone, the Clone can't copy the other creature. Similarly, if an aura and a creature enters simultaneously, the aura can't enchant that creature.

So, either there is a rule about Augment that I don't know about, or this makes no sense.

Ahh, so I misread 704.5g. Creatures with 0 toughness are not destroyed by damage, therefore 704.5f and 704.5g can never both apply to the same permanent. Okay thank you!

I attack with Academy Rector. One of my opponents double blocks it with a 2/2 and a 2/2 with wither. Another opponent resolves a Debt of Loyalty target Academy Rector.

Who can/does control my Academy Rector when it dies? A certain rule states that if multiple state based actions would have the same result, a single replacement effect replaces them all. How, if at all, does that affect this scenario?
