    Hi!

If I have a Spiteful Bully in play and Cateran Persuader, during the beginning of my upkeep could I activate the Persuader to get a Rampart Crawler into play so the Bully will target that creature instead of the Persuader?

No. All upkeep triggers go on the stack right at the very beginning of the step before the active player receives priority for the first time in the turn. And you have to choose a target for any targeted triggers right when you put them on the stack. At most you can respond to upkeep triggers, but if you don't have a means to change the target of a trigger with a response, you are stuck with your original choice.

In addition if it is possible then would I be able to also cast Steal Strength on the Bully and the Crawler to make the Bully 4/4 before or after it targets the Crawler? I'm just confused on the timing of this, if it is possible to do.

You can respond to the trigger by casting Steal Strength on those two creatures. The Bully's trigger will then just fizzle for lack of a legal target. Making the target illegal in response to the Bully's trigger is a way to stop said trigger. Shroud and protection, as well as blink effects, are ways to achieve that.

Made a few adjustments. For starters, I replaced the Imperial Recovery Unit with Unlicensed Hearse, because I hardly ever attacked with it, and if I don't do that, I might as well have a vehicle that gives me some utility, like graveyard hate, and it can even provide for the Fountains second ability to draw cards.

I then also tried to get a fifth copy (of sorts) into the deck for each of the three center pieces. The Tough Cookie got joined by a single Alloy Animist. The Accomplished Alchemist got an apprentice in Incubation Druid (though pulling the combo with that one is a pain to click through). Lastly, Oswald Fiddlebender tries to be the 5th Halo Fountain, which he can fetch to the field with any of the now 10 2-mana artifacts. Though wether that is viable enough, I don't know. He's only in there to fetch a Fountain, but so far I either didn't have Oswald ready (most of the time, it's only a 1-of after all), or I got a Fountain already and didn't need to fetch it.

I'm using Depopulate as my sweeper for now, but will try some copies of Expel the Interlopers instead when I get some. I do have the wildcards to simply craft the cards right now, but I'm not in a hurry and will get some copies shortly anyway.

The deck is actually winning games, though most opponents are not aware of the combo. I had a few that let all pieces be active on the field, while removing a Serra Paragon or building a board. And Arena doesn't know what to make of the deck, judging by the variety of decks I'm facing. From hardly more than beginner decks to downright format juggernauts, I've been facing all it seems. More often than not, I'm having fun with the deck, even if I keep repeating the loop for several minutes on end, digging toward the bottom of the deck for the Hearse to finish the game, and then more time spent making 15 creatures to tap and untap. I don't fault any opponent not wanting to sit through all of that. Hence why I try to play the Hearse as soon as I draw it before making tokens. Kudos to those opponents, who sat through my shennanigans to the end.

    Edit:
I just don't like the performance of Incubation Druid so far, it doesn't contribute much and pulling the combo with it is tedious to the extreme. I found myself another card that could take the place of 5th Accomplished Alchemist and will try it out. Eldritch Evolution 2-for-1s myself, but the Serra Paragon can mitigate it, and I can even find the Tough Cookie with it, essentialy giving me a 6th copy of that. I'll see if that works out or not. If it does, a second Evolution may replace the Alloy Animist to essentially have 6 copies of Cookie AND Alchemist.

Yes,it's different. In your first scenario, your opponent can choose to let you draw. That draw is just replaced. But, with Narset out, your opponent cannot choose to let you draw, if you have drawn a card already that turn. Thus they have to "choose" the reveal.

The player chose to have you draw a card, so you get the consequences for that choice. What action you actually end up taking doesn't matter, the choice is what matters.

Having been utterly demolished in the Standard play queue (is no one playing a casual deck there anymore?), I ventured into the Explorer play queue, where the deck did fare better actually, especially with a full set of Depopulates. Still, the pieces are too fragile (the 1/1 Kami is a lighning rod and easily removed). I also essentialy need 4 pieces for the combo, and getting all 4 online is a rare occasion.

However, in Explorer I can take a different approach to the mana dork. Instead of the fragile Kami, I can use Accomplished Alchemist with its 5 toughness body to generate the mana for the win. But that also means, I have to have life gain ready, when I want to go off. Serra Paragon and the fetchlands, as well as the Samurai do not provide enough. And that's where the new Eldraine card Tough Cookie may take center stage, because with that, I only need to assemble 3 pieces. And I can even get rid of blue entirely for more consistent mana. So I put together a prototype, and stumbled over another green card I totally dismissed and forgot about, that can take the place of the Cookie for now. Or even complement it if nessessary. The card is a little guy named Alloy Animist from BRO. And the deck works! But as always, little tweaks will have to happen for a long time. Anyway, here's the Explorer w/g prototype version. Suggestions, comentaries, and such are welcome.

Why the complicated approach? Black can get you the creature cards from the graveyard back to your hand, from where you can simply cast them as Adventures. Extus himself already helps greatly with that.

Ok here is a question I’ve been using reconnaissance for multiple of years but I still get some that argue this but I want to make sure I understand, ok I play ghired, conclave exile so he brings a tapped an attacking token into play can I untap the tapped and attacking token that he brings into play I think I can but with so many doubts on how this works I have confused myself also in the combat step can I deal damage to a creature after it blocks and takes the damage from my creature then before that cresture hits my creature with the combat power and toughness can I remove my creature from combat before that creature does the damage to mine example my rhino swings in for attack they anonounce blockers they go to hit each other then after my rhino does damage can I remove from combat

You can untap the token created bys Ghired, yes. You cannot divide combat damage, so that your creature deals damage but the opponent's does not, unless your creature has first strike or double strike. Because all combat damage in a combat damage step is dealt simultaneously by all attacking and blocking creatures. But with first strike or double strike there are two combat damage steps, and only creatures with either ability get to deal combat damage in the first one. Then everyone can do stuff, and only if nothing happens any more and all players pass priority with the stack being empty, will the game move to the second combat damage step.

No. While you would gain a second trigger, only that second trigger will gain you control of a creature or planeswalker. Because, when the duration of an effect expires before it begins, the effect never begins in the first place. So the target of the first trigger is still a target until the trigger resolves, but the trigger itself won't do anything. And just to be clear on why, the Silumgar that returns to the battlefield is not the Silumgar that left it and that the first trigger refers to. That Silumgar does not exist anymore, only the new one does, a different object with no conection to the first trigger.

611.2b Some continuous effects generated by the resolution of a spell or ability have durations
worded “for as long as . . . .” If the “for as long as” duration never starts, or it ends before the
moment the effect would first be applied, the effect does nothing. It doesn’t start and
immediately stop again, and it doesn’t last forever.

403.4. Whenever a permanent enters the battlefield, it becomes a new object and has no relationship to
any previous permanent represented by the same card, except for the cases listed in rule 400.7.
(This is also true for any objects entering any zone.)

400.7. An object that moves from one zone to another becomes a new object with no memory of, or
relation to, its previous existence. This rule has the following exceptions:

    None of the exceptions apply.

A question came up last night at an edh game where my notion thief was being killed by a card that also drew cards in its effect. I'm wondering if I get to draw the cards before NT dies since the texts reads to deal damage before drawing cards. Also curious if the same result would occur from a modal card like mystic confluence. Thanks for any help from knowledgeable sources.

    Fateful Showdown

There are two different scenarios in your question:

    1) Lethal damage is dealt to Notion Thief, or cards are drawn before it leaves the battlefield. In these cases, the Thief's effect gets to apply, because it is still around when the card draw would happen. Lethal damage kills the creature when state based actions see it the next time a player would receive priority (so after the spell or ability has finished resolving completely). And modes are carried out in the order written, so if the Thief is destroyed/bounced/etc. after the card draw mode, it gets to apply.

    2) If the Thief is removed from the battlefield, before cards are drawn, so effects like "destroy, then draw" or "bounce, then draw", then the Thief cannot apply to the card draw.

While he can put that many activation on the stack, the third one to resolve will put him at 0 life. The game checks state based actions whenever a player would receive priority, and losing for having 0 or less life is one such state based action. (The active player gets priority whenever an object on the stack finished resolving.) With him losing the game, all other activations, as well as any other triggers and spells on the stack that he controls, are removed from the game with him and won't do anything.

508.3d An ability that reads “Whenever [a player] attacks, . . .” triggers if one or more creatures that
player controls are declared as attackers.

Therefore, you get one trigger at most, when you declare at least one creature as attacker. Doesn't matter how many more you declare, doesn't matter where you send them. One trigger is what you get, no more

Yes. To do that, simply place the triggers with the Valkyrie's at the bottom, and the Bishop's on top (that came out wierd Unibrow ).

The copy Patron and all other Vampires you control (so not the original Patron, which is stil on the stack) will each get one +1/+1 counter for the destruction of the first creature. The original Patron will then do that all over again, so it will only get one +1/+1 counter, while all the other Vampires gain a second counter. The copy Patron cannot exile the card, but fortunately, the rest of the effect is not depending on that, so all your Vampires, both Patrons included, get another +1/+1 counter. In total,3 counters for the copy Patron and all other Vampires, only 2 counters for the original Patron.

How does fading interact with Act of Authority?

I'm wondering what you're asking me I think maybe you meant a different card

can you stack the removal of the last counter trigger of Parallax Tide with act of authority to permanently exile lands?

No. To permanently exile the lands, Parallax Tide has to leave the battlefield in response to the exile lands activations. Any land exiled with the Tide already when it leaves the battlefield, will be returned. Since both the Tide and Act have upkeep triggers, which go on the stack before you get priority during your turn, you can at most respond to those, which means, the lands get exiled before Tide leaves the battlefield, and are promptly returned.

Sidenote, fading is not vanishing. You have to sacrifice the fading permanent when you cannot remove a counter from it, not when you remove the last counter (that's vanishing).
